Hopkins traded to Cardinals?

A top 40 pick isn't peanuts, but Nuk is worth more than what they got for him.

I know many dont like to hear this but BOB is clean the house RS built.
I don't believe that Rick Smith had anything to do with OB making this deal. It was strictly what we see is what we get

Keep it Movin!
BOB should've gotten a 1st for Hopkins since he took on DJ's contract.

Be it a 2020 2nd and a 2021 2nd, or a 2020 1st.

Bad trade,

Hopefully BOB spends the two 2nds and a. 3rd on the defense. Plus signs a couple of FA'S on the defensive side of the ball.

Hopefully WFV/Stills and a couple of WR draft picks to round out the wr corps.
That's all you got?

It really gets under my skin that before today the Texans had one group that was at or near elite status and that group was the WR’s. When Fuller was healthy I felt the Texans could hang in there and at least be competitive. Now, forget it. In one move O’Brien has effectively and severely weakened not only the best group on the team but also limited the QB.

Honestly, if you asked me yesterday what one thing could O’Brien do that was so incredibly stupid I wouldn’t see it coming, the answer would be trading Nuk. But O’Brien took the extra step of not even getting much in return.

Hook'em, when I heard of this trade, I thought of you and the board... interest in the Texans will drop off and apathy will set in after this trade. What a kick in the head when I got home and my wife told me BOB traded Hopkins. Well, hope you can see fit to keep the board going. Regardless of what happens, thanks for your time and effort in the past.
No worries ROO. I will for all of you guys, many whom I’ve known for over 15 years. I tried hard for many years to be a fan of this team but they’ve literally done nothing in all of these years to earn my fandom. The only thing they did was geographically replace the Oilers however they failed to replace them in my heart. Despite all of the heartache the Oilers had personality and their moments. The Texans are just a corporate bore to me and now with an arrogant baffoon making them a laughingstock.

I feel for all of you that still call Houston home and have this going on in your backyard. I haven’t lived there in almost 40 years now so I don’t need to own this. I said the same thing after the Chiefs meltdown and knew when I didn’t even care.

Following one dysfunctional franchise (Bucs) is enough but I grew up a fan of them like I did the Oilers and live here now. I didn’t own a Texans jersey when I was 10 so just don’t have that attachment so BOB can shove it.

For Watson's sake, let's hope he leaves too. If he doesn't his career is going to be over very shortly. He'll be holding the ball and not have a wrestling champ to target. He'll be hit too often to last more than 2 or 3 games.

If I were the boss i'd trade him to Cincy for their 1st and draft Joe Burrow.
Bengals will not make that deal.

For what its worth, here is the e-mail I sent. I'm sure some intern will file it into a giant spam folder with all the others.

Is there anything we can do as fans to force the Texans organization to terminate Bill O’Brien’s employment with the team? There can be no debate that he is incompetent and a liability to the organization.
I have been a season ticket holder since the day the NFL announced Houston would be awarded the new team. I feel cheated by Bill O’Brien’s incompetence and feel disrespected by ownership who seem not to care.
I believe the majority of the fan base has no faith in Bill’s ability to lead this team. His time with the Texans should be over.

Just hope that the coach trading Hopkins will not live to regret it. But he will if the season flops.

I think they shopped him and took the best offer they could get.

The Cards were the only team willing to give Nuk the extension he wnted and that's what kept his trade value down.
[/QUOTE]
And they have a qb on a rookie deal

Dang tried to edit that. Effed it up. Was a reply to steel. Yeah zona can pay hop because they unloaded johnson and murray on a rookie deal. They should extend Hopkins one year past murray rookie deal.

Also they have weapons that look good come fantasy time

Sorry... this makes no sense. On it's own merit the trade is lopsided in Arizona's favor.

Unless BO'b can turn that 2nd round pick into a 2020 1st & 3rd, nothing that happens in the draft can right the trade in our favor, or even for that matter.

This trade is objectively bad.
Makes plenty of sense...ya’ll are hung up on the trade...I’m about what comes out of the trade...

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
Its humiliating being a Texans fan.

I can't believe we're stuck for another season with O'Brien. I can't believe McNair allowed this to happen. I cant believe no one stood up in the meeting room and said this is f'ing stupid.

I want someone like Watt or Watson to complain about it. I want the whole damn team to complain about it. We got fleeced today in epic fashion.

When I saw this trade today I thought to myself someone should make a gif of ob's face on ving rhames getting pounded in pulp fiction. Yes, that scene. Truth is though, ob wasnt forced to bend over, he did it on his own. The fans are really the ones being f'ed and your paying for it.

This franchise wont get another penny from me. Sometimes the pet you love is to sick to carry on and needs to be put down. It's the humane thing to do.

Good night Toro.

Normally, we would assume a coach had done due diligence before a major trade. But we can't assume that with O'Brien because, as Seth Payne said, he allows his emotions to guide him.

We are witnessing the reason you don't allow a coach to be GM. There's no hand of restraint.

The good news is that O'Brien has put all his poker chips in the pile and doesn't even know it. By being so inflexible, he has set his minimum bar of achievement at an AFC championship berth. Anything less than that will make the rioting Philadelphia fans look like Gregorian monks.

I would love nothing more, but, unfortunately, there will still be enough people interested in tailgating and the social experience of going to an NFL game to keep Cal McNair’s pocketbook happy.

Locker room mutiny is a far better way to get O’Brien fired, and he took a major step in that direction today.

I think they shopped Hopkins all over the NFL and 30 other teams thought the Texans were phishing, not fishing. Arizona was the one team that bit , figuring they would be shot down.
That does not make any sense to me. What team would not at least pursue until the Texans said No way Jose!

Any player that disagree s with the dipstick running the show gets shown the door. I expect that NUK, Just like JD did, wanted out, so he started pumping for a new contract. BOB can't stand anyone who doesn't kiss his butt and Kowtow to him. Total waste of space and ticks me off he is using some of my air. Stop breathing ya piece of crap.

So if he wasn't shopped how did he get traded?

Lombardi said he was shopped.
They’ve been saying all this morning since the trade that they e been shopping him since last summer at the trade deadline. Ian Rapport stated in NFL network that Tom Pelissero has known that this trade was in the works for 2 weeks before today.

He was definitely shopped well before this trade went down.

For Stefon Diggs, Vikings got:
1st rounder
5th rounder
6th rounder
2021 4th rounder

For DeAndre Hopkins, Texans got:
David Johnson
2nd rounder
4th rounder

LMAO! How is Cal McNair not firing everyone involved in this stupid ass trade after watching all of this unfold?!
This discredits the idea of Hop not garnering much trade interest. Bill is just a bad negotiator

Here's the trouble, though... given the fact that O'Brien traded a 3rd for Duke Johnson, a promising young OLman for Hyde, traded away two 1sts and a second... perhaps he was offered much more in draft compensation. However, he has demonstrated a tendency to overrate veteran RBs and undervalue early round draftpicks in the trade market... It is possible that other teams offered him a much better package of draft picks, but O'Brien thought the David Johnson deal was better.
I think you partially hit on something here. I think O'Brien values veterans over draft picks. We see this when he plays veterans over rookies coming in. I do not disregard the personal issues he's had with Hopkins or the latter's desire for more money. Having said that he could value David Johnson over draft picks. Teams willing to trade a first-round and have the cap space to extend Hopkins may have really been few if any. Raiders and dolphins could have done that but may not have chosen to do so as can get wide receivers with # 18 and 19 pics.

He either doesn’t have the patience to negotiate or values veterans that can help him win now over high draft picks, which are gold in the NFL’s hard cap model. Both are bad qualities for any NFL GM.

Yes, this is the core problem. He does not understand player value or trade markets. BOB only understands he likes or does not like this player.

Surely the bills offered obrien something better than what cardinals gave. Imo stefon not better than hopkins, so the only explanation I can think of is OB not wanting Hopkins in the same conference maybe??? Or he just plain retarded....

Then why has nobody but those two heard anything about it? even as a yuk yuk it should have got some air time here in Houston.

If this was Belichick that made this trade, I would've paused and said to myself, ok he's kinda of a genius that won all those SBs. So we will trust the captain once more for taking the longer route to get us home first.

Hey captain O'Brien! Tell us again why we should continue paddling for you?

Houston could have gotten a 1st and maybe a 2nd, probably a 3rd for Hopkins this year, plus more picks in 2021. We should have come much closer to recovering what we lost in the Tunsil trade.

And it's troubling that a coach would value veterans that other coaches developed rather than a rookie he himself can develop.

If this has already been said then I apologize but it's pretty simple here folks. Hop wanted out and probably threatened to sit as he's already loaded and hey, win win if he sits and saves himself a few concussions so, there was no recourse other than to get whatever the team could for him. The rest is academic.

Point is.. if you're looking for someone to blame on the worst trade ever et al including the Clowney trade, and they're both up there, the people you should be blaming are the players. They forced the situation.

So we should blame the players over OB's poor negotiating skills?

That has got to be one of the worst takes I've heard.

The players may not be innocent in the reason why they are being dealt, but they aren't playing a role in how their GM chooses to acquire compensation for them. That part is strictly on the GM to balance the team's assets and get good on his return for what he is parting ways with.
