The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

Denver selects Joe Mixon - RB, Oklahoma

Mixon is a good pick I wondered how far he would fall, it's easy for us play GMs, we don't have to deal with the media, but back to Mixon he possesses maybe the best blend of speed, size, and skills in this draft.

Also his stuff is getting conflated with domestic violence which it wasn't

The kid is getting drafted 2nd/3rd round by somebody. GM's and coaches can posture publicly about it but that's all just PR.

When the 2017 NFL Draft comes around, the Denver Broncos will have some difficult decisions to make as they put the finishing touches on building the roster. One area they are looking for an upgrade is at running back, an Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon has already been to Denver for an exclusive visit with the team.

Head coach Vance Joseph spoke on Mixon at the annual NFL owner’s meetings in Arizona, and sounded pretty comfortable with where he’s at, three years later.

“I thought Joe was a nice young man,’’ Joseph said. “Obviously, he had an issue three or four years ago, but he’s owned it. We brought Joe in because he didn’t go to the combine. We brought him, we talked to him for a day. He’s owned it. He’s been remorseful for his mistake.’’

his clock runs through the weekend? I thought it was four hours per pick?

If I recall correctly the last few years we've done this the clock stops on the weekend much like how it's stopped from 9PM-7AM during the week. That's never stopped us from making picks during that dead period but things do slow down.

Would anyone be opposed to me being Cleveland should this dude miss yet another pick?

I can't say that I will be around for all the picks (which is why I didnt volunteer for a team), but I do know how to leave lists.

IDK but we're going to have to make a decision on Cleveland because he's missed a couple of picks. The Raiders are absolutely free though if you want them.

Cleveland has lots of choices

Budda Baker
Jourdan Lewis
Malik McDowell
Dede Westbrook

Tough pick. All 4 would likely see the field alot. McDowell playing inside Garrett would be strong.

If someone misses multiple picks and is not checking in regularly, they should lose their team. People miss picks, I get it, but this type of thing happens every year. I think people who do this should be barred from the mock in future iterations. It shouldn't be this way.

I vote that we go group pick or someone should take over the team. The issue is that people who sign up for a team aren't signing up for doing research on multiple teams in order to keep the mock going. We have to pick up the slack, even when we don't necessarily want to be picking for that team.

I vote @HouSportsWriter out and anyone who has missed more than one pick. There are plenty of ways for people to PM their pick if they aren't going to be present.

@rmartin65 make the pick and take over the team and let's keep it going. Tired of playing nice with this thing.

My Internet has been down all day and I still managed to make my pick.

Screw him I would rather someone we can count on making picks. Even if they miss a few than let this jackwad screw up the draft.

You will probably make a much more informed pick anyway.

The reason I am interested in the Browns is that I am already fairly familiar with them due to friends and family. For the Raiders, I dont think I could tell you too much without having to look into the team, and, to be honest, I am not terribly interested in doing that.

It sounds like I have the support of a few members to take the Browns. So... without further ado

The Cleveland Browns select Budda Baker, Safety, Washington

There were a couple players I was looking at, but I like Baker's combination of athleticism and college production here for the Browns. His size is a concern, but at the end of the day, Baker missed only 1 game in his career.

Also, the run on DBs made me a little hesitant to go with a different position.

@thunderkyss is up (provided my takeover of the Browns is indeed acceptable)

So as to not hold the draft up, if the Browns become on the clock between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM and I haven't left a list, group pick it for me.

Not a problem I have no issues with you taking the Browns. Was just waiting for more input from other members and it's clear the group supports it. Happy hunting.

Great pick btw.

17 DBs selected thus far, or 32% of all players taken. Crazy.

It is crazy... but at the same time, I get it. It is a passing league now, and this draft seems to be pretty stacked with talented DBs.
That said, I don't think it goes down this way in real life.

What's really crazy is that I could see 3 more going before the round is over.

It's a deep corner and safety draft, it could definitely happen this way, not to mention that before the injuries to Sydney Jones and Fabian Moreau, those guys were locked into round 1 and 2 respectively.

The Miami Dolphins decide to play the risk with their 2nd round pick and select...

Malik McDowell, DT, Michigan State

With TJ Watt earlier in the draft, and McDowell here, the Miami Dolphins decide to make the proper investment in defense to at least come 2nd in the AFCE with hopes of dethroning the Patriots even though Tom Brady defies aging.

Thanks for helping out.

BTW, great pick

Btw the Raiders are up after the Giants and they still need a new GM. If you want to take them on as a 2nd team then volunteer otherwise we will just group pick them like we do the Texans.

If this was the real draft I would hope the Texans would jump the Raiders to pick up a certain slot corner that has slid in this draft.

If we're thinking of the same slot CB then the Texans won't need to trade up as he will likely fall pretty far in the draft after his domestic violence incident.

I hadn't seen that. I usually side with the victim, but this on sounds a little sketchy. No visible marks, why would he come out of closet, drag her across floor and choke her. So Mixon can break multiple bones in girls face and get picked in 2nd but have a he said she said with no damage done and get hammered. Doesn't make sense to me.

And jradMIT, the Raiders NEED corners

Not claiming to be an expert, grabbed it from here,

But you can never have too many CBs or pass rushers,

I thought about taking Sydney Jones with my spot. Alot of people saw him as this drafts best corner. a team is just going to have to take a flier on him and wait a year to see a return like the Cowboys did with my favorite prospect last year Jaylon smith

Taylor Moton G/T, Alvin Kamara RB, Derek Rivers, Carl Lawson Edge, Evan Engram, Bucky Hodges, Gerald Everett, George Kittle TE, Teez Tabor, Jourdan Lewis Fabian Moreau CB, Justin Evans, Josh Jones S

Interesting. Raiders corners were repeatedly torched all season on big plays and they were also hammered underneath. Sean Smith was awful. Maybe I'm wrong, will be interesting to see what they do.

Their D was pretty bad pretty much every position could be addressed.

I think the biggest difference here is that the Mixon thing happened almost three years ago. Where this other thing is pretty recent & nobody really knows what to make of it yet. Kinda like La'ell Collins.

Then Ezekiel Elliot, Jordan Howard, Todd Gurley, & Melvin Gordon have shown that there are RBs coming out that can change games. Had we a bunch of safeties coming out looking like Polomalu from the jump...

& lastly... this is a mock draft. The real thing will probably not go anything like this.
