The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

I think that he has a lot of Favre in him.

Seeing him on Grudens QB Camp he gave a similiar vibe to what Favre did when they did a QB Camp special with him.

everybody keeps saying Favre, why? Nothing like him, to me more like Johnny Football with a better arm.

Did Manziel have elite arm strength??

I remember him throwing lots of bombs but did he have elite velocity and length with it??

Molly said no, and that's really more or less true. It wasn't an elite arm, but it was definitely above average. I watched him play in person for two years. In Atlanta against Duke, he dropped a 44 yarder perfectly into the receiver's arms in the endzone without the receiver so much as slowing down. Against Alabama in 2013, he was about 6 yards in the endzone when he threw a ball that dropped perfectly into Mike Evans hands mid-stride at the 42 (Evans took that one to the house, loudest play in Kyle Field I've ever heard. Nearly went deaf). Against Alabama in 2012 he threw two or three passes that cleanly sniped the window between corner and safety for long 20-30 yard gains. He had an ability to drop dimes to receivers mid-stride in college that he never replicated in the pros.

Newbie here to this draft, but curious why the clock stops on weekends. I'm as busy as anyone during the weekend with sporting events, family and work around the house but still much less busy than during the week. Seems like we could be knocking out alot of picks.

I believe that was one of the original rules when we first started this and it's just never been changed.

I got to this late or else I would've signed up. People who aren't picking need to be replaced so I have another mock draft to read!!!

We need someone to replace the Raiders. Can you do it? They're 2nd up on Monday.

Lol

Always with intent to grow & nurture draft interest. Knew going into this year edition our group mock would be a test of patience.

Think it's a function of continuous disappointing drafting by our very own boys on Kirby. Guys who've been around longest have gone on to other things, those who remain like infantrycak have become cynical and ever wary. Messaged Porky myself Friday, dude is off enjoying life. Which means we either don't have a life or need to get one.

I think the rule to stop the clock on weekends gives people an incentive to sign up, because it's easier to sign up for this when you aren't expected to be present when you've got some time to spend with your family or just enjoying life. I get why it would be questioned, but I don't think it's a bad rule.

I echo people's question of why we are always having issues getting people to PM picks. It seems pretty simple, but perhaps people just don't have the time to make a list of choices at the time that they sign in and see that they are close to a pick.

I think even for people who enjoy following the draft and have done research already prior to the mock, it takes some time to review needs and prospects and make your best decision. So, I get that the mock isn't an easy thing to do.

I get some of us may have more time than others but in all honesty if you signed up to participate you should do in a timely manner. It doesn't take hours to put together (takes me just a few minutes and I do this as a break from the daily grind) a list and PM it to people who have already said they can make picks on your behalf.

I get that life happens and I don't take the Draft that seriously but just make a list of the top 5 or even 10 and PM it out just in case.

If Porky had posted on Friday, we very well could've finished rd 2 by now and all of this is a moot point. I don't mean this as a slight to Porky.

I think I'm going to check this yrs draft and see who's been participating and have an invite only mock next yr, with each person taking on 2 teams. That should help speed things up.

It really screws things up when a guy takes the team with the 1st pick and the most picks in the draft and only makes the 1st pick then drops out.

I know some think I should take it easy on him, but that's the definition of a turd. Whenever he comes back on this board in any capacity I will make sure he knows what I think of him/his opinions etc....

Thanks Texans4Ever for forwarding your picks.

Monday is going to be hectic for me. Working in the morning trying to get thru for opening day. But I will make it happen, because this is important to me.

Thanks for forwarding your also TS.

rmartin65 has taken the Browns, and the Raiders are in Group Pick limbo. Are there other teams with AWOL GMs?

No, thank you sir and cak for doing this. I remember I "ran" a draft a few years back and it was painful lol.

I have had intermittent power and internet outages for the last week. All kudos to Lucky.

I may be the source of the weekend rule because I used to bail internet entirely for the weekends. No problems from me changing the rule.

Maybe make the time period longer on weekends.

How about 6 or 8 hour clock on weekends?

Most of us will check in more frequently than that anyway but it gives the guys with a life at least an opportunity.

Even with a life... I've always got my phone with me. I can understand not spending a lot of time here, but we're talking one weekend.

I don't even want to be here, but I was asked. I'm starting to second think accepting that offer.

& I don't have a life.

8 hrs should be good.

But if a guy misses a weekend pick we shouldn't think of him in the same light as HouSportsWriter.

I know Cleveland selected Trubisky 12th overall but seriously he will not make it out of the top 10. Despite lack of experience, he is the top QB prospect in 2017 draft. Jets are playing coy but that is most likely who selects him. This creates more buzz with Mahomes and Watson. Jackson (Cleveland) could be eyeing Watson as their franchise QB, doubt its Patrick, question is does Houston stand pat for Mahomes if he is on top of their board, or be proactive & trade up to ensure they get him?

Cardinals sitting there #13. They might go QB here? But if they don't, it might behoove Rick Smith to start making calls to teams. Only other teams ahead of them I see are Denver, Miami & Giants (groom behind Peyton). However risk of a team trading up, ahead of the Texans as demonstrated in the past can be a lethal blow. New Orleans would be a great fit, following Brees. Pittsburgh, needs to begin transition post Ben and lurking is Andy Reed Kansas City Chiefs, who only needs to move up thee spots to leapfrog Texans for Mahomes. After which teams that missed addressing QB need early could jump back in the 1st ahead of Texans like Chicago or San Francisco. Its a fluid process and usually things don't shake out until draft begins but what should Texan strategy be, if Mahomes is their target?

Trubisky will be only the 2nd QB from the University of North Carolina to start a game in the NFL.

I only mention that because the first was Tj Yates.

I was going to ask what I missed but not much apparently. Guess I should get some work done before our pick is up. Should be around mid-day or so, right?

Hoping Porky makes his pick sooner. Raiders will be a group pick, then the Texans. After that, I see this round moving through pretty quick. Maybe get to the 3rd round.

May as well get the Oakland discussion going:

They signed Jarred Cook in the offseason so there goes the TE need. Looks like they need defense at all three layers.

Oakland 1st round pick Zach Cunningham - LB, Vanderbilt

Top Team Needs
1. Middle Linebacker

The Raiders could look to find an enforcer at middle linebacker in the early rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. There will be some options in free agency, but this might be a good year to look for someone in the early rounds like Jarrad Davis of Florida.

If the Raiders’ defense can find a stud for the middle linebacker spot, I think the complexion of their defense will change dramatically.

2. Interior Defensive Line

Everyone knows about the two edge rushers the Raiders have in Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin, but there’s not much else. Someone coming from the interior providing pressure would be nice.

3. Cornerback

David Amerson was a nice surprise free agent pickup, and Sean Smith is still someone they believe in, but the Raiders should look for another cornerback that can perhaps start off in the slot and work toward an eventual starting role somewhere down the line.

4. Running Back

If Latavius Murray leaves in free agency, I think the Raiders could look for an upgrade at running back. Even if Murray stays, there would be nothing wrong with taking advantage of a deep draft class at running back and getting another guy that could be a difference maker.

5. Right Tackle

Austin Howard played 11 games last season and right tackle was generally the only weakness on an otherwise excellent offensive line. The Raiders could look for a potential future starter here in the draft.

I think he the Raiders need a RB that can run inside. Do they have to take one here? Maybe not. Despite 17 DBs taken thus far, there are still CBs that could go here. I see a couple of interior pass rushers as well. Don't want to mention names until Porky has selected.

Sorry guys I've been really busy with my business this week. It went a lot quicker than I expected, but I would have made the same pick for the Giants that the consensus did. If this @Porky thing is supposed to be working - I don't get it. I get no notification at all that I am aware of.

I'll try to grab the next Giants pick but can't promise as this is going way faster than I expected. If I don't make it - do the consensus thing.

I kinda wanted Foreman to the Texans but probably have to go OL so let Porky have him. Would look good in either shade of Blue.

For Giants I suggest Evan Engram who would be a pretty huge upgrade at a position they have struggled to upgrade for years. For Raiders I suggest Chris Wormley who would give them a versatile pass rusher inside where they desperately need one.

I like Kumara for the Giants.

Jourdan Lewis or Montavius Adams for the Raiders.

They say that the Ogun? from Charlotte is a stud but I haven't seen him play.

Engram to the Giants. Let's make that official and move on. His clock has technically not expired but he has not been on since Friday afternoon.

I vote Foreman to the Raiders. Let's get a consensus on somewhere on this one and we can move on and get rolling again.
