But odds of him being successful are better if we take him in the third.
Odds are we are not taking a QB anywhere in the draft and especially before the 3rd day...

Exactly the opposite.
Not familiar with that site but it doesn't match the prior report of a $21 mil cap charge this year and all $37 mil guaranteed paid in the 1st 2 years.
I believe that site is owned and run by our own Troy Chapman.
Awesome deal! It is essentially a 2 year / $31 million contract with a team option in 2018 and 2019 for $20 million per year. Low risk, low commitment, especially given how healthy the Texans cap situation is this year and next. YES!!!
Or... it's a 3 year $50M contract with $37M guaranteed. Not much different than Elway's 3 year $45M contract with $30M guaranteed.
The 4th year is $13M salary, $4M roster bonus. He'll never see that. He'll be cut after year two, or they'll negotiate an extension before the 4th year.
was going to "like" your post but decided to "HOORAH!" hope you don't mind?Elway is familiar with him while in school...drafts him in 2nd round. Grooms him as backup and future starter behind all time legend. Forced to spot start and holds his own and helps team lock down home field advantage in playoffs. Elway knows him better than anyone and offers him $16M per year and $30M guaranteed. Texans offer him $18M per year and $37M guaranteed and all of a sudden the narrative is that the Broncos dodged a bullet.
Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that it's acceptable for Denver to offer him $16M+ and $30M guaranteed but the Texans offer $18M and $37M guaranteed and it's a severe overpay?
OK. Fine. After Schaub, who here is really that confident?
Well he's got those 7 NFL starts and an 86.4 QB rating to show for them which ranks him #41. That puts him in fine company and just behind Case Keenum, Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick and that's worth $72MM these days.
I'm really baffled by those that are upset by this deal.
If we had a top 10-12 draft pick and had a legit shot at Wentz, then fine I might get the frustration. But the ONLY way we'd have had a chance at drafting Wentz, or even Goff, in this draft would be to trade the farm.
So here's a question: has there ever been a time when trading the farm for a draft pick has ever worked out for the team trading the picks? The two that come to mind for me are RG3 and Herschel Walker (who I know wasn't a trade up in the draft but a ton of draft picks were traded for him). Seems it's a lot smarter to try and get your QB either through free agency (Drew Brees), trades (Matt Schaub), or the draft (Aaron Rodgers). We got a guy with some serious potential without giving up anything of value except McNair's money. What's the problem?
That would be pretty hilarious, and I'm with you on possibly still drafting him. I'd send them both to camp, let them fight it out, and look to trade whoever loses the QB competition.Wouldn't it be funny if our pick at 22 comes up and one of them is on the board still? I wouldn't be opposed to taking either or. Went from no QBs to a plethora! Ha
The point I was making is that the Texans can cut him loose after two years and have no real salary cap ramifications, making the Osweiler experiment a very low risk opportunity.
Texan, I am usually always on your side. Not this time. Excited as hell and think your arguments are circular here. Props to McNair, Rick and O'BrienThe difference here is I've a strong conviction that Wentz and Goff will be franchise QBs with several Pro Bowls along the way. Osweiller coming out of college wasn't close to having their resumes and was much more of a Paxton Lynch coming out of college. Yes, by all means, if you want to breakout the Kool-Aid, then Breakout the Kool-Aid.
Spending Bugatti money on a FA or spending Bugatti money on a draft pick is still spending Bugatti money. Osweiler Bugatti money is ultimately cheaper Bugatti money. You're getting a Bugatti Quit yer bitchin.
Brock Osweiler did not want to be a Denver Bronco. Even if they matched the Houston Texans’ free-agent offer.
The buzz around the facility that week was that Brock never secured that job. He never made the coaches believe he could be the leader of that team. He had a chance to lead, and he didn’t. He had a chance to make his teammates accountable, and he didn’t.
A source told BSN Denver that Osweiler’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, was upset about the quarterback getting benched and said Sexton later told Osweiler’s wife, “don’t worry, we’re gonna get him out of here,” shortly after the game.
Bro you got the cart WAAAAY ahead of the horse. Os has shown exactly two things:
jack and sht.
If you're telling me we couldn't have drafted someone cheaper, or traded for someone with as much upside for
less, then I think your smoking something..
Guess we'll see how it plays out next season.
If this guy sucks, then Obrien should be run out of town on a rail--
It will be time for "next man up" when it comes to the coaching staff.

Bill O'Brien can teach a young quarterback Brady-Patriots secrets; that's one of his primary selling points. Now, instead of doubling down with one of his old pupils, he can mesh his wisdom with Osweiler's Manning-Broncos experience to create from Osweiler a Super Brady Manning Hybrid, but with a stronger arm than either of them!
According to NFLNetwork the Texans interest in Osweiler started over two years ago when we began having shared practices with them in the preseason. They've been watching him ever since & believe he is special.
Exactly where I'm at. I mean watch that pass to Emmanuel Sanders in the first video I posted. It's at 1:15. It's incredible. The more I watch clips of him, the more I like what I see.
“I see the same type of leadership qualities that I see in Peyton,’ Miller said. “He knows how to work the room. He can relate to everybody in the locker room — not just the offensive guys, not just the defensive guys. He can relate to everybody in the room. Brock is one of those guys, and he goes out there and he leads in that type of way.”
Any nicknames for Brock Osweiler yet?

Who else is there at QB? I'm not seeing anyone.
And who worth a crap is falling to us?
Wait we can trade 3 first round draft picks and move up......
Marc Vandermeer will shout that out after a Brock TD pass!Brock n roll is the best I've heard, lol
Hell, I'd give Savage a shot before dumping all of that money on Os.
If it's Os or no other QB's then I'd go after other positions of need in
the draft and free agency _until_ we can get a decent QB for a value
deal.
Guy has done _nothing_ We don't have to pick Matt Schaub 2.0 just to
make McNair happy.
I'm sitting here listening to 790 right now, and the national guys are talking
about how the Texans just offered crazy money for Os.
I'm not the only one.
I thought BoB was going to bring some "patriots" philosophy to the way
we handle the roster -- this doesn't seem like a Belichick move..
--more like an act of desperation based on a lot of hope and prayer.
I had a feeling this was going to happen. McClain's prediction did nothing to make it go away. The Denver retread played Houston like a violin, and they bit on it like a sucker. The Mullet clone is going to make us wish we had Mullet back. Think of it! A committment like that for so long a time! Come fall, we're all going to be cussin' because management once again gambled everything on a QB failure. Weeden and Savage aren't great, but they're both better than Oz. And Obie will start him because he won't want to admit his mistake. This means we won't be drafting a QB, I can see it now. This makes me mad enough to PUKE.
Matt Schaub 1.0 was easily good enough to win a super bowl.
I'll take 2.0 version, with upgraded legs and arm, lol
You better pray the rosary, throw salt over your shoulder, and wear a rabbits foot.
Because I have a bad feeling this guy is going to underperform his contract by
a large amount.
We're going to be stuck with him for a while.
I'd like to think he's the answer, but 72 mil on this guy with all of the other holes on the roster
tells me we're not any closer to winning the superbowl than we were when we had Matt Schaub 1.0

If it doesn't work out, Bll O'Brien and likely Rick Smith will both be fired. We'll start over in four years. If it pans out we'll likely compete for a few Super Bowls in that same time frame. We have guys like J.J. Watt who want to win Super Bowls. We've gotten to the AFC divisional round only twice in Watt's career, two games short of our goal. You better pray the rosary, throw salt over your shoulder, and wear a rabbits foot.

You were the one who correctly couldn't believe that all the guaranteed money was the 1st 2 years.Among the other problems with your rant, it's effectively a 2 year deal.
You've gotten yourself fixated on the 72, that's not the reality of the situation.
And drafting a QB is somehow different?!?How is that not a reality? We outbid Denver, and pretty much no one else.
If he sucks, it's another two years of watching .500 football on TV.
I've already been doing that for the better part of a decade and a half.
I would actually like to make moves that have MUCH less risk associated with them..
