Brock Osweiler agrees to 4 year 72 million

I believe that site is owned and run by our own Troy Chapman.

That's what I thought. Suspect that for now he is projecting the structure. Or he got the full deal and the earlier report was wrong. I was certainly surprised at the front loading reported earlier.

Awesome deal! It is essentially a 2 year / $31 million contract with a team option in 2018 and 2019 for $20 million per year. Low risk, low commitment, especially given how healthy the Texans cap situation is this year and next. YES!!!

Or... it's a 3 year $50M contract with $37M guaranteed. Not much different than Elway's 3 year $45M contract with $30M guaranteed.

The 4th year is $13M salary, $4M roster bonus. He'll never see that. He'll be cut after year two, or they'll negotiate an extension before the 4th year.

The point I was making is that the Texans can cut him loose after two years and have no real salary cap ramifications, making the Osweiler experiment a very low risk opportunity.

Elway is familiar with him while in school...drafts him in 2nd round. Grooms him as backup and future starter behind all time legend. Forced to spot start and holds his own and helps team lock down home field advantage in playoffs. Elway knows him better than anyone and offers him $16M per year and $30M guaranteed. Texans offer him $18M per year and $37M guaranteed and all of a sudden the narrative is that the Broncos dodged a bullet.

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that it's acceptable for Denver to offer him $16M+ and $30M guaranteed but the Texans offer $18M and $37M guaranteed and it's a severe overpay?
was going to "like" your post but decided to "HOORAH!" hope you don't mind?

I'm really baffled by those that are upset by this deal.

If we had a top 10-12 draft pick and had a legit shot at Wentz, then fine I might get the frustration. But the ONLY way we'd have had a chance at drafting Wentz, or even Goff, in this draft would be to trade the farm.

So here's a question: has there ever been a time when trading the farm for a draft pick has ever worked out for the team trading the picks? The two that come to mind for me are RG3 and Herschel Walker (who I know wasn't a trade up in the draft but a ton of draft picks were traded for him). Seems it's a lot smarter to try and get your QB either through free agency (Drew Brees), trades (Matt Schaub), or the draft (Aaron Rodgers). We got a guy with some serious potential without giving up anything of value except McNair's money. What's the problem?

Well he's got those 7 NFL starts and an 86.4 QB rating to show for them which ranks him #41. That puts him in fine company and just behind Case Keenum, Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick and that's worth $72MM these days.

Conviently left Blake Bortles and his 88.2 QR rating off that list. I seem to recall you saying Bortles is a franchise QB. Why wouldn't Brock be if they're so closely ranked?

Bortles ranked 23, Brock 25; they both also start w B as well...kinda like the bull I'm smelling!

Wouldn't it be funny if our pick at 22 comes up and one of them is on the board still? I wouldn't be opposed to taking either or. Went from no QBs to a plethora! Ha

That would be pretty hilarious, and I'm with you on possibly still drafting him. I'd send them both to camp, let them fight it out, and look to trade whoever loses the QB competition.

But if it's me making the decisions, I don't touch Goff. I'm much happier with Brock than I'd be with Goff. But I'd love Wentz.

Also, Brock has to have the strongest arm of any QB the Texans have ever had (let's pretend Ryan Mallet was never on the team), right? I mean look at some of these throws! The pass to Emmanuel Sanders at 1:15 in the first video is second to none.

I understand. I was attacking the "overpaid" narrative. I just heard on NFLNetwork the Broncos final offer was 3 yrs $16M ($48M total). It's only a $2M difference over the first three years.

I met Brock a couple of weeks before he got drafted, sat next to him on a flight.

Fun to talk with. Down to earth individual.

The difference here is I've a strong conviction that Wentz and Goff will be franchise QBs with several Pro Bowls along the way. Osweiller coming out of college wasn't close to having their resumes and was much more of a Paxton Lynch coming out of college. Yes, by all means, if you want to breakout the Kool-Aid, then Breakout the Kool-Aid.
Texan, I am usually always on your side. Not this time. Excited as hell and think your arguments are circular here. Props to McNair, Rick and O'Brien

When can we expect the news conference? Ive been busy all day and don't want to read through all these comments lol

Spending Bugatti money on a FA or spending Bugatti money on a draft pick is still spending Bugatti money. Osweiler Bugatti money is ultimately cheaper Bugatti money. You're getting a Bugatti Quit yer bitchin.

Bro you got the cart WAAAAY ahead of the horse. Os has shown exactly two things:
jack and sht.

If you're telling me we couldn't have drafted someone cheaper, or traded for someone with as much upside for
less, then I think your smoking something..

Guess we'll see how it plays out next season.

If this guy sucks, then Obrien should be run out of town on a rail--
It will be time for "next man up" when it comes to the coaching staff.

Osweiler was never close to signing with the Broncos

Brock Osweiler did not want to be a Denver Bronco. Even if they matched the Houston Texans’ free-agent offer.

The buzz around the facility that week was that Brock never secured that job. He never made the coaches believe he could be the leader of that team. He had a chance to lead, and he didn’t. He had a chance to make his teammates accountable, and he didn’t.

A source told BSN Denver that Osweiler’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, was upset about the quarterback getting benched and said Sexton later told Osweiler’s wife, “don’t worry, we’re gonna get him out of here,” shortly after the game.

According to NFLNetwork the Texans interest in Osweiler started over two years ago when we began having shared practices with them in the preseason. They've been watching him ever since & believe he is special.

Who else is there at QB? I'm not seeing anyone.

And who worth a crap is falling to us?

Wait we can trade 3 first round draft picks and move up......

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...brock-osweiler-not-as-risky-as-it-first-seems

Bill O'Brien can teach a young quarterback Brady-Patriots secrets; that's one of his primary selling points. Now, instead of doubling down with one of his old pupils, he can mesh his wisdom with Osweiler's Manning-Broncos experience to create from Osweiler a Super Brady Manning Hybrid, but with a stronger arm than either of them!

Other than that weird quote really good article

That sounds like stalking and I believe is illegal.

The more I watch clips of him, the more I like what I see.
Exactly where I'm at. I mean watch that pass to Emmanuel Sanders in the first video I posted. It's at 1:15. It's incredible.

Osweiler moves really well in the pocket for a guy that's 6'7", he's got a very strong arm, is accurate enough and should be able to improve, and doesn't seem to be a trouble maker.

Loved what Von Miller said about him. http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos...sweilers-leadership-to-peyton-mannings/38552/

“I see the same type of leadership qualities that I see in Peyton,’ Miller said. “He knows how to work the room. He can relate to everybody in the locker room — not just the offensive guys, not just the defensive guys. He can relate to everybody in the room. Brock is one of those guys, and he goes out there and he leads in that type of way.”

I'll ask again of those that dislike the signing:

Can you give me one instance where a trade involving 3 first round draft picks, or more, has taken place and been successful? It just seems like dumb football when you've got so many positions to fill. In basketball, sure it's worth it, which is why it never happens. But in football?!? Not having a first round pick for 3 years in a row is the type of thing that destroys your franchise.

I kind of want to call Brock "The Pizza Man" but J.J. Watt sort of took that name, along with the Milk Man, his first couple of years in the league.

Seriously, that pizza from this past weekend made this lucrative contract possible. I'm still glad he showed so much restraint and didn't deck that guy that pushed him.

Although, he would have been justified to have knocked that guy out don't you think? I mean under the circumstances.

Hell, I'd give Savage a shot before dumping all of that money on Os.
If it's Os or no other QB's then I'd go after other positions of need in
the draft and free agency _until_ we can get a decent QB for a value
deal.

Guy has done _nothing_ We don't have to pick Matt Schaub 2.0 just to
make McNair happy.

I'm sitting here listening to 790 right now, and the national guys are talking
about how the Texans just offered crazy money for Os.

I'm not the only one.

I thought BoB was going to bring some "patriots" philosophy to the way
we handle the roster -- this doesn't seem like a Belichick move..

--more like an act of desperation based on a lot of hope and prayer.

I had a feeling this was going to happen. McClain's prediction did nothing to make it go away. The Denver retread played Houston like a violin, and they bit on it like a sucker. The Mullet clone is going to make us wish we had Mullet back. Think of it! A committment like that for so long a time! Come fall, we're all going to be cussin' because management once again gambled everything on a QB failure. Weeden and Savage aren't great, but they're both better than Oz. And Obie will start him because he won't want to admit his mistake. This means we won't be drafting a QB, I can see it now. This makes me mad enough to PUKE.

Matt Schaub 1.0 was easily good enough to win a super bowl.

I'll take 2.0 version, with upgraded legs and arm, lol

That horrible 2 year commitment, why is it always the same posters?

Lol

Jeff Van Gundy is declaring the Houston Texans the Super Bowl 51 champions on ESPN right now, during the Thunder versus Clippers game.

Sigh, you can't have it both ways Van Gundy!

He's a Texans fan living in Houston...
But he's also a Broncos fan who grew up in Denver.

He's also a Warriors fan and Rockets fan. He lived in the Bay area too. He's also partial to the Knicks, who he used to coach. Please!!!!!!!!

LOL. Van Gundy just needs to stick to Houston. It's your home!

Astros, Rockets and Texans. That's it!!!!!!

You better pray the rosary, throw salt over your shoulder, and wear a rabbits foot.
Because I have a bad feeling this guy is going to underperform his contract by
a large amount.

We're going to be stuck with him for a while.

I'd like to think he's the answer, but 72 mil on this guy with all of the other holes on the roster
tells me we're not any closer to winning the superbowl than we were when we had Matt Schaub 1.0

If it doesn't work out, Bll O'Brien and likely Rick Smith will both be fired. We'll start over in four years. If it pans out we'll likely compete for a few Super Bowls in that same time frame. We have guys like J.J. Watt who want to win Super Bowls. We've gotten to the AFC divisional round only twice in Watt's career, two games short of our goal.

What we did is better than sitting on our ass hoping to land a franchise quarterback. I wish we could go back four off-seasons ago and sign Peyton Manning. But this is the next best thing...

You've gotten yourself fixated on the 72, that's not the reality of the situation.

And a hope and prayer if we traded multiple high draft picks on another player that hasnt even sniffed what the NFL is like. Bob and rick knows that they got to make this work while the defense is still intact.

We need are draft picks, we lost 2/5 of our line today and we dont know how brown's injury will play out..yes, we signed a RG but we still need OL help

I just think that trading up and giving up valuable high picks over a couple of years, while throwing a rookie QB out there would not be good for this te at yhis moment. .we dont need a shell shocked rookie QB that cant have time to develop properly..we been there and done that.

Yeah, the national sports radio hosts are always careful to fully inform themselves and present a thoughtful, accurate argument. What they don't do is spew out poorly developed conclusion based on talking points designed to grab the attention of the casual listener and typical fan. Oh, wait. That is exactly what they do. Did these guys who agree with you mention that the Texans can cut Osweiler after 2017 without consequence? Or, did they discuss that the Texans have a wealth of cap space the next two years? Did they break down film study....beyond mentioning " that one play on Monday night, I think, when he screwed up and got replaced by Peyton."

You've gotten yourself fixated on the 72, that's not the reality of the situation.

How is that not a reality? We outbid Denver, and pretty much no one else.
If he sucks, it's another two years of watching .500 football on TV.

I've already been doing that for the better part of a decade and a half.

I would actually like to make moves that have MUCH less risk associated with them..
