Well he's got those 7 NFL starts and an 86.4 QB rating to show for them which ranks him #41. That puts him in fine company and just behind Case Keenum, Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick and that's worth $72MM these days.but we are not comparing Os entry in the draft but Os now to those guys
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing. As rookies, Dwayne Allen was clearly the #1 TE under Bruce Arians. Then Arians left for Arizona and Indy replaced him with Pep Hamilton, who was Fleener's OC at Stanford. Hamilton immediately made Fleener the #3 option in the passing game. He's spent his last 3 years being top 3 in targets and averaging just 6.9 yards per target. Hamilton got fired this year and Rod Chudzinski came in and immediately told Allen that he would be he #1 TE going forward (which is why Allen was re-signed for $7M per year this week).
It's just my opinion, but I think Fleener is a complete by product of playing with Luck in college and once he got the NFL he was a #2 TE. Then his old OC came in and elevated him over the other guy (who is a better player). Once his old OC got fired he was again the #2 TE. He's a JAG, IMO. I'd start Ryan Griffin over him for sure.
At the time, there was a question whether Peyton could throw a ball 20 yds and could he throw more than 25MPH. Contact was not an issue at the throwing sessions.
Please don't act like the talent Wentz faced is on the same level as what Osweiller faced in college. Wenz will be a bust.
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Moot point I guess now. Here's to hoping you are right and he doesn't become a top 5 TE in New Orleans.
Is this directed at me? If so just let me know and I will happy to respond.Elway is familiar with him while in school...drafts him in 2nd round. Grooms him as backup and future starter behind all time legend. Forced to spot start and holds his own and helps team lock down home field advantage in playoffs. Elway knows him better than anyone and offers him $16M per year and $30M guaranteed. Texans offer him $18M per year and $37M guaranteed and all of a sudden the narrative is that the Broncos dodged a bullet.
Am I the only one who finds it ridiculous that it's acceptable for Denver to offer him $16M+ and $30M guaranteed but the Texans offer $18M and $37M guaranteed and it's a severe overpay?

I certainly understand you taking me to task for liking the faux talented Wentz. Mike Mayock has him as his #1 QB and the first QB to be drafted. Now you may have better information and sources than Mr. Mayock so you you may have a point. In this case please don't be upset if I side with Mayock on Wentz. Please don't act like the talent Wentz faced is on the same level as what Osweiller faced in college. Wenz will be a bust.

Is brock going to be worth it? We dont know yet. Hopefully he can "take command of the team "..
Parcells also thought Henne and Ryan were the same guy. We found out quickly he was wrong. Long is almost out the league, henne is a career backup, Ryan is a franchise qb.Parcels waited until after a QB had 20 starts before deciding on how good a QB might be. I subscribe to Parcels line of thinking if you don't mind.
All good points. My debate started with a ? of what I thought about Osweiller. Long story short I said I'd prefer to trade up for Wentz or Goff.Just a general rant directed at nobody in particular. I'm seeing a lot of TV analysts and Broncos sympathizers saying the Texans overpaid. Yet 6 hours ago they were all perfectly content with whatever Elway was going to offer him.
The Texans obviously overpaid. My issue is this narrative that it wasn't an overpay if he re-signed with Denver because Elway is a genius but he signed with Houston so yea it's an overpay.
Not upset in the least. I form my own opinions based on what I see not what someone else sees.I certainly understand you taking me to task for liking the faux talented Wentz. You're already getting rid of the guy and you still spent $37MM and a chance at a (better prospect) rookie would only cost you $20MM. Not sure how this is a better deal....but if you say so....PDS @PatDStat 5m5 minutes ago
Looks like a $21 million cap hit in 2016 for Osweiler. All $37 guaranteed in the first two years of his deal . Essentially a two year deal.
Thats a great deal. No reason to hate this. He is expandable after year 2. Furthers my proof that this is less risky in comparison to a rookie.

Now we all know....leebigztx... is so much smarter than Bill Parcels.Parcells also thought Henne and Ryan were the same guy. We found out quickly he was wrong. Long is almost out the league, henne is a career backup, Ryan is a franchise qb.

Texans are in win now mode. Bob knows he cant waste 2-3 years waiting on a qb to develop...
Texian argues that it makes sense to draft & groom a 36 yr old QB's replacement. Well, you don't replace a first ballot HOFer with JaG. Schaub, yes. Peyton, not so much.
Nope, he's the hof coach, but he failed in dallas and he failed as gm in Miami. He passed on Matt Ryan for Jake Long and they're still suffering. Now we all know....leebigztx... is so much smarter than Bill Parcels.
This has a Seattle Seahawks feel to it. Os is our Flynn. Savage may be our Wilson, or maybe we'll draft someone like Hogan in the third.
Hogan will be there in the 4th or 5th along with Coker. This has a Seattle Seahawks feel to it. Os is our Flynn. Savage may be our Wilson, or maybe we'll draft someone like Hogan in the third.
The Broncos weren't in the ordinary replace a HOFer situation. They were orchestrating the whole thing as temporary and grooming a replacement contemporaneously.
Hogan will be there in the 4th or 5th along with Coker.
Spending Bugatti money on a FA or spending Bugatti money on a draft pick is still spending Bugatti money. Osweiler Bugatti money is ultimately cheaper Bugatti money. You're getting a Bugatti Quit yer bitchin.I would have waited to see what shakes out of the draft first. None
of the free agents strike me as worth the money. People had Lynch
potentially falling to us -- I've watched that guy play, he has just
as much potential as Os.
If McNair was up my ass about signing a vet, I would have gone after
someone like Chase Daniel, or tried to trade for a guy like Tolzien or
Garropolo. (someone that would have been much cheaper in terms
of picks and bucks..)
Osweiler needs to have 72 mil. of an upside, and honestly, after watching
him get benched for broken down Manning, I don't see where that upside
will come from..
Feels like we just spent Bugatti money on a Jetta GTI..
Bottom line on tonight's discussions....thunderkyss asked for my opinion on Osweiller...bottom line, my gut tells me that in 3 yrs Wentz and Goff will be better NFL QBs than Brock Osweiller...Good night ladies...

Yeah... ok. In that case JaG is good enough.

Awesome deal! It is essentially a 2 year / $31 million contract with a team option in 2018 and 2019 for $20 million per year. Low risk, low commitment, especially given how healthy the Texans cap situation is this year and next. YES!!!
The difference here is I've a strong conviction that Wentz and Goff will be franchise QBs with several Pro Bowls along the way. Osweiller coming out of college wasn't close to having their resumes and was much more of a Paxton Lynch coming out of college. Yes, by all means, if you want to breakout the Kool-Aid, then Breakout the Kool-Aid.
All Brock's guaranteed money is in first two years of deal so if this crashes and burns Texans cut him and find the next one.

I really want to make a wrestling pun but i'm tired and savage never crossed paths with brock so take this. And that's why you still draft Hogan on down the line.
It's pretty apparent now that Savage will not be saving anything but gnats from drowning in the Gatorade bucket.
Not familiar with that site but it doesn't match the prior report of a $21 mil cap charge this year and all $37 mil guaranteed paid in the 1st 2 years.
