I agree that the Texans need to add some more weapons on offense, but I think there are significant needs on the defensive side of the ball as well- DT being one of the most significant, IMO. I'm probably not advocating going offense in both rounds 1 and 2 unless some ridiculous value drops (and it might; there are a lot of good receivers that are eligible, it just depends on who declares).
I will say that Worthy doesn't move the needle for me. He's got all that speed, so why is his yards per reception so low? He looks like Ted Ginn Jr. to me.
He's also very light- how is his frame going to handle the weight to add the functional strength he is going to need in the NFL? I have the same concern with Troy Franklin from Oregon (I see
@steelbtexan and
@badboy discussed him a bit in another thread)- I'm curious to see how he's going to get around this issue at the next level.
For my money, give me one of the big receivers (if the Texans can't get MHJ)- Coleman or Odunze being the guys I like early. Nabers looks pretty good too, but I like the tools of the other two better.
Corley from Western Kentucky is worth considering. I honestly think he should be looked at as not only a receiver, but as a 3rd down RB. You'd have to see about the blocking, but I think that's a role he could fill well.
As far as TEs go, Bowers is the only one I consider in the first, and I think he's overrated (so he'll likely go before the Texans pick). He's a good player, and he's one I'd strongly consider when the Texans are up (assuming they pick in the mid-late teens), but he's not Gronk like people are making him out to be. Sanders is interesting in the second. I like Spann-Ford from Minnesota a lot. Stover strikes me as a TE2; reliable, blocks well, but not a difference maker in the passing game. Bell is kind of a poor-man's Bowers to me. If you really like what Bowers brings but miss on him in Round 1, Bell is a good target in the mid rounds. A couple of under the radar guys are Sinnot (Kansas State) and Bartholomew (Pitt). All looks the part, but there are medical concerns. Those are the TEs I'm watching. Oh, and Nesbitt from UNC.
