Playoffs

Gotta have star level players and they've added some.

Stroud/WA/Cashman/Dell/Collins/Ward etc...

It's much easier to coach when you've got this level talent. BTW, Strauser deserves the MVP of this coaching staff.
Identifying the right players to bring in and to develop at all levels of recruitment is important also, whether that is Stroud/WA at the top of the draft billing, Cashman a holdover from the previous regime who barely saw the field last year, former high round picks getting coached better like Nico/Stingley, you bring in a Jimmy Ward as a big FA target.

It isn’t just great coaching it is being able to identify what you want in a player and who will work well on your team.

Been far too many poor moves in the period that led to us hiring DeMeco, and that doesn’t come down to luck it comes down to knowing what is important.

We saw in Hard Knocks Rick Smith finding it difficult to pin down Bill O’Brien on the prototypical CB traits he was looking for to fill out the roster, and down the line it was proven that he couldn’t build a roster, in large part because he couldn’t target the right talent.

Great post

Although there was a disagreement between RS/BOB about which CB to keep at the final cutdown.

Like I've said before, for the first time in franchise history I feel like they're building a contender and one of the biggest things is having the GM and HC on the same page. Example: the WA trade, Caserio was willing to give up what it took to get the guy Ryans wanted. Contrast: BOB wanted Mahomes and RS didn't want to give up the extra 3rd to get him. Hence drafting Derrick and this sent the org on a downward spiral that it's taken yrs to get out of, but the great thing is the future is brighter than it's ever been for a Texans fan.

Meh, the team that doesn't get the ball should be able to repel the offense with a strong defense - or force a TO.

Limiting a game that involves all 3 phases for both teams to a one possession affair has the clear capacity to hamstring one team or the other who may excel at any one phase enough to get the job done over 4 quarters otherwise.

It's just an unnecessarily incomplete way to decide something relatively important.

I completely agree, especially the way the rules have evolved to favor the offense.

Add in Simmons being injured and missing at least the first Texans matchup. Certainly helps the team’s chances for the banner. The Colts are a problem though. Worst game the Texans played all season was against them and they play them to end the year. Possibly for the banner.
If healthy I'm not as worried about that game as most. With a healthy OL and Stroud having much more experience than when he was starting his 2nd game the 1st time they met, I expect the offense to be much better. The Colts offense doesn't worry me as much because the 1st time they played the starting safeties missed that game. Last game we saw how important Ward is to the secondary. If healthy Ryans will be directing a totally different style of defense next time these two teams meet.

Pre Stroud/Ryans, I would be worried playing Clots.
Not now - I think they now fear us.
The worm has turned.

They had two 100 yard receivers Sunday. Minshew is cooking.

:sarcasm:

We need to beat the Jets next week. We have no business losing to them but upsets happen when the better teams do like us fans are doing and start looking ahead. One game at a time. There is far too much season yet to be played before we start looking at winning the division or playoff seeding.

The Bengals were looked at as done for without Joe Burrow and yet with the backup they chose played like a pro bowler and they won a big game against a good Jaguars team. There is no reason to think that even without Trevor Lawrence the Jaguars couldn't find similar success. All we need to do is recall Nick Foles and some of the other backups who went on to contribute to winning Super Bowl teams. I am not saying those backups are as good as the starters they replaced in most cases but for those championship seasons they got the job done.

Trevor Lawrence's injury turned out to be nowhere near as serious as it looked and so they likely will have him back sooner than later. Just the same with or without Trevor Lawrence we can't relax no matter what!

Lawrence will probably miss 2-3 weeks.

Beathard is different in that he sucks.

Agreed, cant overlook anybody.

What I read was that Trevor was not ruled out the next game let alone two or three games. I doubt he plays next week but if his status is questionable next week than there is a good chance the game after next he will start. If what I read was wrong than disregard my comment.

I don't see how they end up starting Beathard with so much riding on this part of the season. Who they should choose is anybody's guess. Nick Foles? :D No, I don't think Nick Foles is what he was when he helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl. He was not far off when the Jaguars traded him away. He threw a TD pass and played well before breaking his collar bone. He was rewarded by being misused, demoted and then traded. In my opinion he had the talent to be more than a flash in the pan.

If he has a high ankle sprain as reported this morning, recovery is typically 4 to 8 weeks.

I think it depends on the severity of the sprain. Doc knows more but I have seen a game or two missed, and I’ve seen half of a season missed for an injury like this. Coach may be blowing smoke by suggesting Trevor could play this week. I don’t rule anything out, but I’d be schocked if he plays this Sunday.

Do the Jaguars have to start CJ Beathard in place of injured Trevor Lawrence? Why would they start Beathard if they aren't comfortable doing so at this stage in the season?

Recovery for low ankle sprain can be as quickly as one week. But I didn't find a single Google hit suggesting such a fast return from a high ankle sprain. Return too quickly and there is a high probability of reinjury. By heavily taping the ankle it may be possible to return before the ankle is healed. Defenses would love to tee off on an immobile Lawrence. Would the Jags medic staff/coaching staff risk this? We'll see.

On my laptop I haven't figured out how to copy and paste but I don't lie or tell stories. Doug Pederson didn't rule out the Jags game against the Browns. cbssports.com/nfl/news/latest-details-on-trevor-lawrences-injury-plus-priscos-power-rankings-and-breaking-down-nfl-playoff-picture/

Look up Did Doug Pederson rule out Trevor Lawrence starting against the Cleveland Browns.

I doubt he starts next week as well. Just stating what his head coach said.

I actually feel like Trevor missing just this next week and then coming back is a horrible scenario for us. Gives the wild card contender Browns a good chance to win this weekend and then gives Jacksonville the opportunity to right the ship quickly when Lawrence returns

It looked quite severe but who knows?

I want us to win the division with mostly healthy teams in our division so there are no excuses.

I have no doubt Doug Peterson said this.

Pederson said the Jaguars would evaluate Lawrence later in the week, and he wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of Lawrence playing Sunday.

"I'm not going to put that timetable on Trevor," Pederson said Tuesday afternoon. "I'm not going to put him in a box like that, but we'll see how he is in a couple of days."

Pederson said he doesn't think Lawrence would require surgery on his ankle, something that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett had earlier this week to accelerate the healing process.
