Playoffs

This team has gone from worst to middle of the pack. And middle of the pack can get you into the playoffs these days.
Good news is if the defense gets totally healthy and Stroud doesn't turn the ball over this team can win a playoff game. Exciting times down on Kirby. Even better news is with Ryans and Caserio I think they're going to build something special. This is only the begining of the window.

I've already thrown this notion of "should/shouldn't win" out the window. I'm still stuck at "These guys can't block or tackle." & I'm watching them do it well enough to win games, so what do I know?

Far as I'm concerned it's all magic.

What really surprises me, and I mean seriously surprises me, is how much time CJ seemingly has in the pocket, and how well he is being protected.

What happened to our offensive line and where the hell did it come from?

A couple of thoughts:

1) I think it's a little easier for linemen when they know where the QB will setup. Not as much reaching for pass rushers.
2) I think you see a little more effort when a line believes in their QB. It's just a little different, probably unconsciously.

Perhaps they have finally bought into the team?
It would be interesting to get @justmy2cents take on this.

That game is not a trap game especially since the Broncos are playing so much better here lately. They have won 4 in a row. In that span they beat the Chiefs 24-9.
So please explain to me how’s that a trap game?
Because I think the Texans are better than the Broncos, but hopefully they will be coming off of a high of sweeping the Jags. If this happens you can expect a let down.

I probably won't get over the Carolina game until we are firmly in the playoffs, and if we miss the playoffs because of it I'll have to Men in Black that game from my memory.

I know we've had 3 fun wins since that game and I should get over it and all that but we lost to unquestionably a bottom 2 team. In a ridiculously tight AFC playoff race that game could be a huge what if as we sit on the couch in January

Does it bother you that much that the game will be played 2 hours earlier?
Yep

3 hours earlier.

I just dont like how the NFL game is played and in some cases rigged.

Look at the Dobbs hit, he was playing RB ran with the ball and took a hard hit. Result: Kareem was suspended for 4 games. SMH, Likewise Perryman suspended for 2 games because the receiver ducked as Perryman was hitting him. You cant even hit players hard in the NFL without crap like this. It's actually becoming unwatchable. You see as much ref time as you do play time.

So what is going to change because the game is played 3 hours earlier?

The fact that I was thinking about going to that game and now it's an early morning game. Any explanation for the change? I can remember a time when you could make plans around game times, but that's not God'ells NFL these days.

College football is so much better.

ikr Some good best friends of mine are big Broncos fans but they live here in San Antonio. THey were going since it was as few hours away. They had already bought 2 tickets n hotel etc. the interesting thing was they were going to ask if I wanted to go but knowing that I m a big Texans fan but had other out of town plans with family.
Just an example of others not being close Houston and/or local but plan accordingly which this means changing things.
But yes watching Texans on TV for years I actually prefer the early slot but if not I'm setup with DVR antenna

I prefer the noon start for a whole variety of reasons, so I’m happy.

in other news, I usually add a Hundy or two to a fund to buy myself a Christmas gift. Something I’ve had my eye on. This year, I decided to burn it on two tix to the Jax game this Sunday. I’ll be in the house for the first time in a very long time - over a decade. I’m taking my Mexican GF who knows as much about football as I do quinceaneras. She knows which helmet to root for, and she will yell her lungs out with no idea why she is yelling. But if you hear a loud yelling while we are on D, and it sounds like a coyote longing for its mate…that’s us.

If she knows nothing about football she will fit in well out at NRG on Sunday. Great party atmosphere though.

The God'ell NFL at work here.

You wont get an answer back from JB about this. Fact is they dont care about their most loyal fans.

ikr lol but yes coaches. players. practices, and positive motivation in the game room etc. With no drama and believe as an entire team with a purpose. They now know they can win. They know they are good. They all know they can be better. They all know the fans are behind them. it's quite a wonderful exciting time to witness all this as Texans fans.
"First of all I wanna thank my Savior my Lord.." CJ. Well that's pretty cool and Demeco Ryans is also right on up there with CJ and Him. js
Then other players in all positions in the locker room get in on it. Believe.

Granted the Broncos are riding a 4-game win streak so can't take that away from them. However, 3 of the 4 games were at home, and three of the wins were by a TOTAL of 5 points. They are 4-2 this season in games decided by 3 points or less.

Other than the Chiefs game they don't have a win against a good team. And no, the Bills are not a good team this year and just fired their OC.

They play the Browns at home then the Texans, Chargers and Lions on the road with a combined 10-5 home record.

I am curious if they turned a corner or just playing recent games against teams that are spiraling (Bills and Vikings) and a Chiefs team that has lost two of their last three.

And it's not like Russell Wilson has been lighting it up. They've averaged 22 points a game in this 4-game win streak. But what is working is a defense that isn't great overall, but they have excelled in creating turnovers over the last three games.

12 of their 19 forced turnovers on the season have happened against the Chiefs, Bills and Vikings. This is how they are winning games.

However, they have been abysmal against the run during this 4-game win streak, giving up 137 to the Jets, 192 to the Bills and 175 to the Vikings. (Spoiler: the Jets and Vikings run game is right there with the Texans in the lower third of the teams)

This week against Cleveland will a good test as the Browns are bad at giving the ball up but have a ridiculously good defense. And their offense is third in the league in rushing.

As much as I don't want to see the Browns win, I don't want Denver riding into NRG with the confidence of a 5-game win streak.

True,

But, Singleton has had back to back 100 yd games and the OL appears to be jelling. I've been pleasantly surprised at how well Deiter has been playing. He's been very solid. Best center play we've seen since Jones.

Best guess from Yahoo Sports:
"The move gives Texans rookie C.J. Stroud a chance to be viewed by a much larger audience. With the change, Broncos-Texans is easily the most appealing game in the early window during Week 13.
Had the Broncos-Texans game remained in the late window, it would have had to compete with the San Francisco 49ers' game against the Philadelphia Eagles."

2 cents from a Jags fan looking from afar:
The rest of the schedule is in no way a walk through the park....as some may have alluded to.

WK12 H JAGUARS / Last 5: 4-1 / Road: 4-0 / A Really Tough Game. ** Agree **

WK13 H BRONCOS / Last 5: 4-1 / Road: 2-2 / Suddenly, A Really Tough Game ** Agree. Glad we don't have them on our schedule this yr **

WK14 A Jets / Last 5: 2-3 / Home: 2-3 / Texans Should Be Favored. ** low scoring win for the Texans. Jets O is putrid **

WK15 A Titans / Last 5: 1-4 / Home: 3-1 / A 50-50 Game. ** Tacks should be in tank mode by week 15. Texans are better across the board. Easy win. **

WK16 H BROWNS / Last 5: 4-1 / Road: 2-2 / A Really Tough Game. ** See week 14 above **

WK17 H TITANS (See Above) / A 50-50 Game
** see week 15 above **

WK18 A Colts / Last 5: 2-3 / Home: 1-4 / Texans Should Be Favored. ** I could see a Texans loss here. **

Sure I do after all of these yrs of being let down by the professional football teams in this town. I bet you care too. Houston has some of the greatest fans in the world and should be treated that way. IMHO

Maybe I just remember the Luv Ya Blue days.
Fair enough. I just remember you always saying you don't care what others think or how they feel. You always come across as pretty callous

Right. I hope they can keep up the run game because that is the Denver defense weakness. They've been surviving off of creating turnovers and the Texans don't give up the ball much. Stroud's heat check game last week notwithstanding. But even with that they are tied for the 4th lowest turnovers in the league.

If the Texans seem to have their run game figured out, and continue to be stingy with turnovers, I think it makes for a long day at NRG for the Broncos. Ifs and buts though...

I see the Texans going 5-2 the rest of the way if they can get these next two at home.

If the Texans seem to have their run game figured out...

I'm not ready to say the Texans have their run game figured out. I believe the games they're playing together helps, they should be getting better. But the last two teams we played aren't exactly at the top of the run defense rankings. Luckily not many of our remaining opponents are either. edit: Just checked, none of our remaining opponents are as bad as the Cardinals & the Bengals except Denver.

I'm seeing better lanes, but not clean lanes, I'm still seeing our RB run into the backs of our blockers.

But Singletary is able to get around the edge more frequently now, so who knows?

Yeah not talking past the Jags, but getting Denver, at home, with a bad rush defense that relies on turnovers to stay in games, seems like advantage Texans.

As to the rest of the schedule, I am not expecting 150 rushing yards every week. They got 110 yards against the Cards, which is middle of the pack when you look at average rushing yards per game this season. They were averaging below 90 before the last two games. I'll take 110 rushing yards each game moving forward. Doesn't need to be their strength, just not as big of a weakness.

So if they play a top run D team and don’t get 100 yards, does that mean the Texans don’t have their run game figured out? Seems like a whacky expectation to do well against a better run defense and then think they’ve made no improvements because they don’t do as well against it. The top rushing teams in the league have bad days running the ball against better defenses.

Jags are 4th best against the run. I think the Texans might find it a little more difficult running the ball against them.

That said, Singletary averaged 4.5 YPC against them in the 1st game. Pierce 2.2. If Singletary gets the majority of the work load I think they’ll be OK on the ground. Not 120+ yards OK maybe, but somewhere in the 90-100 range, depending on how much Pierce we see.

Good news is if the defense gets totally healthy and Stroud doesn't turn the ball over this team can win a playoff game. Exciting times down on Kirby. Even better news is with Ryans and Caserio I think they're going to build something special. This is only the begining of the window.
And if players like the two Greens, Stingley, Pierce and Metchie can fully recover and play up to their potential, we'll be solid.
Now that we have our QB and the team as a whole is playing good football, we have moved on from a rebuild to having a "window".

Sounds just like my GF!

I mentioned that at the time. Didn't go over to well here.

I dont mean to come across as callous.

I just dont like where the NFL is headed these days. Look at the Denver/Cleveland game today. DTR was running around out of the pocket and threw the ball just as he was getting hit, but because he took a hard hit that knocked him out of the game there was a penalty on the guy who did everything right. It's like they dont want you to hit the QB hard at all and that's not football. I gave the Josh Dobbs being used as a RB last week and there being no penalty, but a fine over a hard hit.

Here is the entire play on the Nelson “holding” call
Yes and you can see Nelson grabbed the receiver's jersey about the 20 yd line. It wasn't a bad grab and didn't impede his route, but it was enough to draw the call. I think most people are not seeing this and think the flag was thrown for something that didn't happen at the 30 yd line when the receiver curled back.

I respect your version of what happened, but i disagree.
there is nothing even remotely close to defensive holding on this play.

It’s a tiky tak call. One that can be called, but really shouldn’t.

There are penalties on every play. Such as holding. It doesn’t mean it should be called.

Not saying you are saying that.
