How patient are y’all going to be with CJ Stroud this season?

Not comparing the two but Peyton Manning threw 28 interceptions his rookie year. I like Stroud. I will be patient and hope he develops.

We should wait until game 5-6 of yr 3 before even starting to judge Stroud. This means even if he has a good rookie yr.

I thought you were joking. Are you seriously saying you can't decipher the meaning of that post?
I've said this before and I say it again.

With you, there's no telling, so I have to play both sides, because that what you often did.

So I gave you a laughing emoji, and also that link.
There's also a reason for that link.
Hint: it may not be for you. 🤔 :brando:

I'm looking for magic.

Every winning team has it to some extent or another. It's more than the Jimmies & the Joes more than the Xes & the Ohs. The ball bounces their way more frequently than not. People in the right place at the right time, they get all the calls, & just look like the luckiest team alive.

Think of that streak of games where Jacoby Jones looked like an NFL clutch receiver & the Ravens go on to win a Super Bowl.

Magic.

I'm hoping to say, "No way!!!!" at least a dozen times each game (in the Texans favor). & this time next year people talking about, "you can't count on that." & "expect them to regress to the mean."

Magic

Hard not to like the kid after learning about this. He’s doing all the right things and proving to not be a follower. I hope he doesn’t lose track of what’s important and continues to mature and improve in all areas of his personal and professional life. Good good stuff…

That is awesome to see. The team voting him captain before he'd even played a game says a lot. That's a room full of grown ass men choosing a 21 yo rookie as a leader. Your post just confirms why. Thanks for posting it.

I think it's awesome that DeMeco is connected to CJ as a mentor, friend, and HC, and both in their first years. They are both natural leaders and very mature at young ages. I doubt CJ strays considering his HC is a former player and has such a solid support structure around him.

I think this is the foundation of great things. Kool Aid, optimism, whatever, I'm buying in as a fan, especially after seeing what he's capable of in just four games. :texflag:

Is Bryce Young hanging out with the Texans for dinner?

I'm really hoping for a McDermott/Josh Allen type of situation to occur here.

I still have my concerns about a defensive head coach (especially with hype already building around Slowik) but that McDermott Allen combo is the shining example of a defensive head coach in the modern NFL. Allen had a good OC in Daboll to guide him early and develop him, hopefully Slowik will be around for 2 years to really get CJ going and then hopefully have Jerrod Johnson step in once Slowik is inevitably hired away. Then by that point the hope is CJ is good enough to perform relatively independently of his OC and DeMeco can coach up a great defense year in and year out.

We shall see

CJ is lighting up the league, the team and the fanbase and is as exciting a prospect we have seen in a Texans uni since DW4 was doing well.
Still, as a long suffering Texans fan, I cannot let myself get over the top excited until a full season or even halfway into the second as teams tend to find a weakness or two to bring them back to earth.
Still, I can enjoy the current success and dream of what's possible with what I am seeing.
Here's hoping for a bright and successful future.

Some bad takes in this thread. Kind of embarrassing. Even with Bryce Young poor play, Carolina fans still have faith but Cj throws 1 int in preseason and it’s the end of the world. Hey sorry guys we drafted a generational qb. I would delete some of the bs in here. Very cringe

The Shanahan/Slowik system is going to be dumb downed for Stroud. There are going to be a lot of 1 read passes called for Stroud. This will be the case until Stroud loses his antsy feet and his nervous tick.
It's a fun read. :fans:

I'm not really concerned about Stroud. If anything we'll be making excuses for Green, scapegoating whoever our starting Center will be & talking about the step Mason lost & the inability of the receivers (including disappearing TE) to get open & Slowick's ability to scheme them open.

I'm just going to say I told you so, this team ain't ready for a rookie QB.
LOL

Agreed about the learning curve.

How long did it take Shanny to become a quality OC? It wasn't long.

How long did it take Kubiak to become a Quality OC in Minny? Ryans chose Slowik over Kubiak for the OC position. It's been reported that Slowik's a genius level person.

It didn't take long for LaFluer to become a quality OC.

If Slowik doesn't succeed it will be a rare thing coming from the Shanny tree, which is why if Stroud doesn't succeed it wont be because of Slowik. IMHO

This is also why I wanted a vet HC like Payton, Reich so that the McNair's would have proven HC's that could put together a veteran staff. This would be a 1st for a McNair owned franchise. Like I said nothing has really changed down on Kirby.
LOL

I’m on the same boat

Na, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It’s ok for people to change their mind. This ain’t China or Cuba. Besides, CJ is making believers out of doubters every Sunday.

Still fun/funny to read though. :)
All I said was that I didn't know that Bobbly Slowick would have this team ready. How would I?

Cj surprised me. If the Texans had selected a different QB, Young or Richardson, would things look the same? I think not. Bryce Young has a much cleaner pocket to work from & he can't get the ball out.

So.. who knew? I'm glad I was wrong.

They didn’t know either, and if they say they did they’re full of sh*t.

They saw something in him that’s why they drafted him versus another team trying it’s best to sway them otherwise. So they knew something after diligently scouting him.

Sometimes you hit and sometimes you don’t. Looks like they were correct this time around.
I think he was talking about posters, not the Texans

what's so funny?
The part that is funny was how you said the team is not ready for a rookie QB.

My stance has always been to draft the QB when you like him well enough and build around him.

I had mentioned guys like Herbert, Burrow, Mahomes, even Manning.
That those teams did not have the Oline intact when they drafted their QB.

I also said many times in the past that I like the QB to be able to use all 11 guys on the field; meaning that such QB needs to be able to use his Olinemen correctly and to find the open receiver or his outlet quickly to allow them to make plays.

I do not prefer guys like Richardson (though I did say that he's a good one)

Would seem after only four games, Stroud firmly grasps the whole playbook, he’s digesting Slowick system so quickly. You couldn’t have been more wrong. Anything but nervous with antsy feet :vinny:

Surprised everyone to some extent. I thought the Texans would be around the 20th-21st in total offense. And that was before the epidemic of OL injuries. I thought Stroud would be better at the end of the season than at the beginning. If that is true, lookout NFL.

As has been stated over and over again, the only rookie with more yards in his first 4 games was Cam Newton. But Cam Newton opened up with 2 400 yard passing games then a 300 yarder in his 3rd game, but then ended up the season only averaging 250 ypg. So he really tailed off at the end of that season.

But while Cam Newton was basically getting worse game by game, CJ's getting better.

SteelB's bar was for him to be in the top 5-10 and he's already knocking at that door. If he keeps improving... ??? I need to sit down...

We're original recipe Texans fans. We've seen highly regarded "top of the first round" rookie QB's come in and we've seen what can happen to them. Maybe not as much as Browns fans but we've seen it go wrong before (particularly with OL issues rearing their heads) and so we are by and large fairly skeptical. Makes sense he'd be better at the end than the beginning of the year. If he keeps going up it's going to really run around here in no time at all.

So, when are you going to finally man up and admit that you were completely wrong about Stroud?

I doubt you even show your face again. :loser

He will be back. He always comes back.

When we are at our lowest again that is when he returns. The Texans/Stroud will have a bad game. He will be back for an I told you so. And then disappear when the Texans/Stroud rights the ship.

Nah, and like I've said, you gotta give a QB 2 1/2 seasons before you know what you really have at QB. Why? Defenses make adjustments, particularly in the offseason. With Slowik and Johnson coaching Stroud up I thing the adjustment period will be minimal. The future is bright. Much brighter than it's ever been as a Texans fan. If Stroud keeps improving the Texans will be a true contender for the 1st time since their inception during the rookie QB window.

WhoGivesAsht? If I asked, or if that post was in response to what you thought I could see the "lol" But it wasn't. It was my opinion, which I'm free to give here & it would be nice if folks didn't go around nitpicking each other's opinion. That's not discussion.

Still, I said many times, "If the Texans think their guy is in this draft, last draft, the draft two years ago.... they should draft him." I didn't think Cj Stroud/Bryce Young/Anthony Richardson/etc... were "can't miss, franchise" guys.

Looks like I was wrong about Cj Stroud. I think I've admitted that more than once. "lol" doesn't further discussion. It's more, "I'm a prick & I want to make sure you know it."

So you've missed my point all together... makes the "lol" even worse.

Cool, let's talk about that.

Got nothing to do with me. If Steichen thinks Richardson is a franchise QB, more power to him. I'm glad I'm not a Colts fan. I'm glad Steichen isn't the Texans coach, but if he was I'd be onboard. I'd disagree, hope for the best, & root for the Texans.

lol

Not a big deal.
I just found the comment that the Texans aren't ready for a rookie QB funny is all.

Why, they weren't. You're basically saying the same thing when you say draft your QB & build around him. Different strokes, different folks. & if you can't tell, that's not what's happening here. The coaches are doing an incredible job getting good results from fundamental techniques.

If it wasn't a big deal, you wouldn't have dug up those old posts to lol about.

Somebody mentioned about all the posts in the thread.
Post no. 269, specifically.
I was passing the time so I reread them.
Big deal.
