How patient are y’all going to be with CJ Stroud this season?

Win championships and the problem is that guys ahead of him are better than him, Mahomes, Allen,Hurts, Burrow, Herbert etc... and the guys behind him are going to be better Williams, Maye, Klubnik, Manning and I'm a Longhorn fan so I think Ewers has a chance to be better.

This doesn't mean that I'm rooting for Stroud to fail, but I want to hurry up and get the show on the road, so that if he does fail (which is doubtful) then they can move on. I see Stroud as having a Matt Ryan type future. A really good QB who wiltz in the face of pressure. At least that's been Strouds MO in college and I hope I'm wrong.

So if he doesn't win championship-"S" he will not be a successful NFL qb?

Very, very, very small list...

Looks like as of 2020 there were 721 starting quarterbacks in NFL history...

Of those, only 13 ever met the Criteria you (@steelbtexan) set for CJ. It might be time to reevaluate your expectations.

As long as he's not a choker like Moon/Fouts then I will be ok with him. As long as he doesn't have the better team and drive his team in the ditch I will be ok with him.

As Glanville said about Moon which proved to be true (He cant win the big games) So far this has been true of Stroud in college. Hopefully this changes in the NFL.

So have you redefined your idea of what he has to do to be successful?

Can you offer something more tangible then "don't choke?"

Go back and watch a few Moon and Fouts playoff games for your definition. Particularly the game Neilsen and Carpenter had to start because of injuries to Pastorini and Campbell. That's a choke that was almost on the level of 35-3/51-7

@steelbtexan

Ye of little faith. You frequently send the signal that you hope that CJ fails.

As a Buckeye I've seen guys that I didn't think should be on the team either, but I never rooted against them.

What does CJ need to do over the course of his career for you to consider him a successful quarterback?

You guys keep playing the game with this dude. Put him on ignore already. It does not matter how successful CJ is. He could throw for 4,600 yards with 34 TD and 8 INT in his rookie season and this troll dude will be fixated on those 8 INT for the rest of eternity.

Unfortunately, our time is up today. There's nothing wrong with being ambitious. I want you to demand strong goals for yourself and others. Purpose is great as long as those goals are infact, achievable.

I sense we've made great progress today.

Wrong.

What spreadsheet did you form this opinion from since you seem to be all about numbers?

I've not only accomplished many of my goals in life, I've been blessed to surpass many of them be meeting many great people in my life, including many on this very message board. Thanks for your concern. Therapy session is now over. Where do I send a check too?

Considering they won 10 games over the past 3 years combined, 5-7 wins is optimistic
I'm looking for magic.

Every winning team has it to some extent or another. It's more than the Jimmies & the Joes more than the Xes & the Ohs. The ball bounces their way more frequently than not. People in the right place at the right time, they get all the calls, & just look like the luckiest team alive.

Think of that streak of games where Jacoby Jones looked like an NFL clutch receiver & the Ravens go on to win a Super Bowl.

Magic.

I'm hoping to say, "No way!!!!" at least a dozen times each game (in the Texans favor). & this time next year people talking about, "you can't count on that." & "expect them to regress to the mean."

Yes, but the focus of the draft early does not need to be OL depth. I did say depth needed to be addressed, but the focus of the draft early needs to be finding a TE and a WR to start. Depth can come after that. Hopefully the Texans are getting close to BPA in their drafts

Guess we’ll put your hypothesis to test given state of Texans OL start of 2023 season.

I’m the most impatient fan on the planet. I’m furious that “Pigtails” hasn’t locked in a playoff spot after week one. He’s clearly a bust and likely won’t be a first ballot HoF member by next month as I expected.

He did better than I expected. I worry about the line. No OL means no success. Simple as that and we seem to collect overrated, overpaid, and easily injured JAG’s. Until that corner gets turned (and we find some more legitimate weapons) Stroud’s promising start isn’t really going to start paying off.

If I was in Caserio's shoes, then I would sign Aiyuk in FA. Draft Bowers and trade into the 1st for Worthy. Aiyuk wont cost as much as Higgins and I think he's a WR1. Then draft a difference TE to pair with Schultz and I can guarantee you that any QB will have success with weapons like this. Coliins would be WR2 with Bowers and Schultz in 12 personnel. Add Worthy in the late 1st/early 2nd and there's no reason for Stroud to not succeed.

Just finished rewatching that boring ass game (under the influence of some high quality weed) and boy does CJ look slow…
Does anyone know what his 40 time was? I can’t find any information on it, which leads me to believe that he skipped out on it for obvious reasons.

I found two reports that has him at 4.74 and 4.75, slightly slower than average. Unofficial of course and neither mentioned where or when or how he was timed.

My two cents is Fant is only JAG on oline with Green in the running but to be determined 2024.

I thought things slowed down when you smoke dope? Perhaps that's it?

How many OLmen will be carried on the 53? Deiter backs up at Guard and Center. Jones backs up at Guard and Tackle.

Because Deiter and Jones have all five positions covered, I think they could go with only eight.

So who is eight? Until Howard is cleared to play, it has to be a Tackle. Fant? Who is this Zierer listed as number two behind Howard on the depth chart?

But however you slice it, I don't see Patterson making the 53. He's for the PS. Same for Morrissey. He's one of our more flexible backups at both Guard and Center, but I don't see him making the 53.

Perhaps if they keep nine, that ninth spot may be between Patterson and Morrissey.
Looking back: Patterson not only made team but starting center over veteran Deiter. I think we should carry about 16 olinemen; as we don't use TEs, we can use those spots. Eliminate RBs except for Boone just so we can say we have one on roster. Don't need a full back.

I'm sure we can find 3-4 more players not being used and move them.

I've heard some others say the same thing and I actually thought he was faster than I thought he was.

His ability to get to the outside seemed quick to me and while I don't ever expect him to outrun guys like Queen, Oweh, Clowney, or Smith (damn do the Ravens ever have some linebackers) I was impressed with his ability to get outside quickly, avoid d-linemen and make some plays.

I honestly wonder if the play he made that got called back because of the Tunsil holding call had stood if people's idea of him would have changed somewhat.
