The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

With the 27th pick Kansas City selects Tre'Davious White - CB, LSU

The Chiefs run more man coverage than any other team in the NFL and White is the top man coverage specialist in this draft. KC already has a phenomenal young CB in Marcus Peters but the other CB spot has been a rough spot for them the last 2 years. A tandem of Peters & White has the potential to be the premiere CB tandem in the league.

I thought about White for the Seahawks, I was right in that he wouldn't last long after. I like Conley and thought about taking him as well.

That's a tough defense being put together there.

Howard gotta go Boys right? Or is he going to slip all the way around to me in the 2nd?
Witten just signed a 4 year extension. I think Dallas needs to improve their pass defense, be it by the pass rush or the secondary.

Agreed. They lost their best CB and S and they were going to need help there regardless. I'd suggest Baker or Conley. I have Baker higher, but Conley probably fits better with need.

Witten is done, the move was to push money downstream and try to convince him to retire and eat the remaining cost after this season ends IMO.

No dead money to cut him after this season when you look at contract details. Escobar isn't the answer. I know their D sucks, but they always grabbing guys off the junk heap like Church and Carr.

The contract details aren't in yet.

I just pray the actual Texans don't think like yall do. Mahomes would be the end of us. JJ will be retired by the time we recover from the Mahomes experiment.

Think whatever yall want, that's fine, just don't expect me to follow suit.

You guys enjoy Tim Couch 2 in your TT Mock, but if real Texans did this I would flip every single table in this city.

What does JJ have to do with drafting Mahomes and please share with us what it is about Mahomes that makes you want to tear crap up?

While that's true, an individual can come to the same conclusion that we have here, that we can't rely on Peterman being there in the late 2nd. I think the lack of trading is more a deterrent on strategy, but I wouldn't want to be in a mock with trading.

And with both these guys available, I think most would take a QB here.

The 1st Mock we did was with trading.

It was a clusterf***.

The reason I like doing this is 1. Finding out how other people evaluate talent. 2. Learn about other teams needs. I don't need to learn about trade chart values etc...

I think the Direction is clear. QB is the choice. If that was the vote it'd be like 9-3.

Everyone just wants an out so they can say I told you so cause QBs are polarizing when the QB they pick fails.

I don't. I need no outs. Watson 4 Life.

Doesn't matter though.

Tim Couch 2 is the choice it looks like. 7-5 is going to be tough to overcome.

Couch hurt his shoulder. Is Mahomes/Watson going to do the same?

While there is a lot of dissension here I have to say I'm enjoying the debate.

I think mussop, Papal, and Thunderkyss have a great point with Howard + Peterman. My issue there is there is no guarantee Peterman will be available later while there is a guarantee here that Watson/Mahomes are available now. It's a big risk.

I also don't have nearly as high a grade on Peterman as many appear to. I see a lot of separation between him and Watson/Mahomes but I do see the strategic logic in your line of thinking.

In the real NFL draft you draft if you want Howard/Peterman then draft Howard and trade to the top of the 2nd and pick Peterman.

If O'Brian is at odds with Rick Smith how can they possibly agree on one QB?

Whoever the QB pick is it's little Ricky's pick with McNair's blessing. BOB is out of the loop when it comes to the draft. He said as much in his season ending PC.

Absolutely love this pick.

Reid loves him some tough physical CB's and White fills the bill. With Peters/White you've got 2 playmaking CB's

I like the thought of pairing Melifonwu at safety with Jones. Both can play some CB too. Makes your defense very versatile.

Cowboys have gone over. Needs are S and CB. I have Baker/Melinfonwu at the top of the remaining S board and Conley/Humphrey at the top of the remaining CB board. Could also take Howard.

I lean toward Baker. He'd be a huge upgrade over Heath at SS.

Do they need DL/Edge as well?

Isn't the obvious pick Tim Williams? He's got an issue with passing drug tests and you know that the cowboys haven't learned their lesson and need pass rush.

With the 28th pick in the TT Mock Draft the Dallas Cowboys select Obi Melifonwu Safety Connecticut.

Like I said above. love the thought of pairing him with Jones. If I'm the Cowboys I'm on the phone trying to trade back up into the 1st for one of the CB's.

With the 29th pick the Green Bay Packers select: Marlon Humphrey - CB - Alabama

Packers needs are OG/RB/SS/CB

Really wanted Melifonwu to allow Morgan Burnett to return to hybrid LB

Lamp/McCaffrey would have been first choices if available

Next we have @WolverineFan and then @bah007. I'm sure we'll get those quickly.

After that it's NO and @austins23.

I think he'll need to increase strength to better get off blocks, but other than that I don't see his size hindering him.

I see Bob Sanders in Baker.

You could do a lot worse than having 5 yrs of Sanders type production from your safety position.

I've got a PM from Austins23 on who to pick if the pick needs to be made before 10:00 pm.

Agreed. I don't even think he's the best TE in this draft.

I agree and think Howard might drop to 2nd round because of this.

It would be hard to rule out Howard, Njoku, Engram, Hodges, Butt, Leggett or Kittle as the top TE in the draft. All of them have great athleticism and production. Howard gets hype because of great play in 2 games (2 really big games but still two games). Kittle is my favorite, his range and hands are ridiculous for away from body grabs, he is as fast and athletic as any TE in the draft, and he is a passionate blocker. Would love Hodges, Butt or Leggett also. I think a lot of teams are going to let other teams weed out a few then pick from what is left in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Can get some great value at TE this year, no need to waste a 1st on a player that may or may not be better than one you can get in the 3rd or 4th.

With the 30th pick the Pittsburgh Steelers select Marcus Williams - FS, Utah

Williams has elite range, instincts, and ball skills to play over the top and make plays. There is really no separation between him and Hooker when it comes to those attributes. The only separation between the two is that Williams is slightly undersized so he doesn't hit the "prototype" metric that Hooker does and he needs to improve his tackling. Williams gives Pittsburgh a game changing center fielder and allows them to move Mike Mitchell to a more natural SS spot and be more versatile with CB/S hybrid Sean Davis.

Some people may be surprised by this pick this early. I'm more surprised at the lack of hype Williams is getting from the draft community.

On a side not Kizer's 2015 film has been said to be better than anyone else's at anytime in this draft.

My thinking about that... year one sets the expectations. Year two I want to see how a guy lives up to those expectations.

Of course you have to factor in extenuating circumstances & the fact that his coach is also being judged by similar standards (i.e. had he been playing for a well established coach, Meyer, Saban, Fisher, a drop from year one to would be more of a concern to me).

I keep hearing bob sanders and I guess people just forgot how good sanders was. Baker isn't even in the same stratasph IMO.
