The Actual and Real 2017 Texans Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

Howard is most talented player on the board.

If QB is the choice then Watson over Mahomes. Watson is a winner. Played and beat big time programs on the biggest of stage against better defenses.

Just for the hell of it so we get Romo today if so who would have been your pic then?

Howard and then Peterman.

Howard and then Peterman.
YES!!!! 1000 TIMES!!

All these quarterbacks are second round quarterbacks in my opinion including Peterman, so why not just take Peterman here? I mean if we're that desperate we have to draft a quarterback in the first round screw it take the one that's the best fit. In my opinion it's hands-down Peterman. But the same time and not haven't this drag on forever i vote Mahome's.

I prefer Mahomes and don't fear missing out on Peterman. If I missed on Peterman I'd shift to Chad Kelly later and not feel gutted.

Howard and then Peterman.
What if Peterman isn't there in the 2nd? We're risking taking what's left vs taking what we want if we don't go qb early (assuming the qb we want is there early). Seems like we're too qb starved to take that kind of risk.

Hell if we wanted a Jay Cutler type QB we can just sign Jay Cutler right now.
Real life if Howard is on the board and RS isn't running his ass up there to select him then I join the fire RS train. Next stop unemployment line.

Watson over Mahomes

It sounds like if people don't have to take a QB, we'd have 3 or 4 votes for Howard, which would lower the votes for each QB and actually make this thing a pretty close 3 way race.

While there is a lot of dissension here I have to say I'm enjoying the debate.

I think mussop, Papal, and Thunderkyss have a great point with Howard + Peterman. My issue there is there is no guarantee Peterman will be available later while there is a guarantee here that Watson/Mahomes are available now. It's a big risk.

I also don't have nearly as high a grade on Peterman as many appear to. I see a lot of separation between him and Watson/Mahomes but I do see the strategic logic in your line of thinking.

We're starting Savage regardless this year. In this scenario we're giving him a much better TE than we have on the roster and a willing blocker.

I'm fine with it. I wouldn't mind settling for DeShone Kizer (who some still rank as the #1 QB in this draft) or Jarod Evans... I'm starting Weeden/Savage, & seeing what we've accomplished in 3 years. Kizer would be getting ready for 2018 regardless, so would Evans.

& if there's an Andrew Luck in 2018, I'm trading up to get him unless Weeden/Savage wins the Super Bowl...

No guarantees but why not swing for the fences if the idea is to win a SB.

Let's make a rule no one can draft Peterman lol.

I agree. I like Peterman in the late 2nd, but I like Watson a lot more. I understand the strategy, but it's too big a risk for me, especially when I don't feel Watson at 26 is any kind of reach.

In real life, Howard is most likely gone and we're probably not having the debate. There's no doubt that Howard is bpa and would help the team. I just think that we need to make qb priority 1 in this draft and get our guy.

I don't think Kizer will be there for us in the 2nd. But if we have 3-4 guys we're OK with being our guy - go Howard.

I would also say that, in my opinion, Howard isn't a top 10 prospect. I think he's good value at 26, but I don't think that he's a slam dunk elite player at his position, which he'd basically have to be to be taken in the top 10 given his position.

We have a tie at 7 votes between Watson and Mahomes right now. Do we think we will have enough future votes here that will break this deadlock? How should we proceed if there is no consensus? I'm not advocating that we not wait for more votes, but I think we should start thinking about how we would break a tie.

Agreed. I don't even think he's the best TE in this draft.

If it's a tie then Rick Smith will trade our 1st round pick for cap space.

Who's the patriot that's going to flip to stop that from happening?

Honestly don't understand how 'winner' is used so often to differentiate as though all things are equal.

I think people conflate "winner" with "clutch".

It shouldn't be held against Mahomes that he played for a crap team just like it shouldn't' have been held against Elway. That said, Watson played in some really big games (that his team won) and he was very clutch in those games. Mahomes never really got to showcase on that stage because his team was awful but that doesn't change the fact that Watson did produce on that stage.

Watson performed best in tough situations. Won with his arm and legs. Compare him to Vince sure, he's Vince with better mental ability.

Mahomes could be Favre, I'll take that but the growing pains will be rough.

Mahomes is meh to me, but Watson is just a no. If the real draft shook out and we got a tackle or a TE in the first, and Peterman in the second, I'd be very happy. If we got Mahomes in the first, I'd be content. But if we pick Watson, we're making a monumental mistake IMO.*

*If he ends up being a great pro I'll eat my rightful plate of crow.

I want to like Watson. A guy who loves the game and comes to play on the big stages is completely desirable. It's just the physical component.

I don't trust that without a bad throw eraser like Williams or a playmaking intermediate target like Leggett or a burner like Scott or with a steady running game with Gallman that all of Watson's so-so traits don't become butter for a good defense to diagnose and put a stop to/turnover. Put all of those components with a guy like Mahomes and the sky could be the limit. Could not work out also, that's only fair to consider.

But all things being equal I'll take the guy who makes playing QB look all natural and can make ridiculous throws instinctively and at high difficulty.

For the record I'm not comparing Watson with VY and saying he'll be a bust. My only point was that 'winner' doesn't necessarily translate to the NFL as in VY's case.

While I don't normally feel comfortable drafting someone I haven't seen play in these mocks, the near consensus on this player is that he is the best prospect on the offensive line. I'd watch him, but I know that I'm not good at reviewing OL play.

The Seahawks need help all along the line and while a tackle prospect worthy of this selection would be more beneficial, they'll settle for potentially the best OL prospect in this draft. He provides potential versatility in that he may be able to play tackle in the NFL, although is likely a guard.

Seahawks select Forrest Lamp, OL, Western Kentucky.

That goes for a lot of winners. As an Aggie, learned that the hard way with Johnny Manziel
