The Actual And Real 2016 Texans' Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

Nassib has a similar story to Watt and If he became a Texan would likely be in lock step with JJ all along the way:

One of the better stories of the 2015 college football season, Nassib went from preferred walk-on status to two years of special teams play to leading the nation in sacks (school record 15.5) and forced fumbles (six) in his senior year. Nassib garnered unanimous All-American honors for his efforts(19.5 tackles for loss) while also winning the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Lombardi Award as the nation's top offensive or defensive lineman, the Ted Hendricks Award for the nation's top defensive end, and the Lott IMPACT (Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity) Trophy.

With the 79th selection in the 2016 Texans Talk Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select:

Javon Hargrave, DT, South Carolina State

This is the small school guy that everyone should be high on. Not Springs and Butler.

I'm inclined to go BPA here and take a Safety. The top 2 players left on my board are Safeties.

Darian Thompson, Boise State
K.J. Dillon, West Virginia

Thompson is a true center-fielder while Dillon is a combo guy like Andre Hal. If you want a ballhawk then take Thompson. If you want interchangeable Safeties (which is becoming more then norm in the NFL) then take Dillon. Either that or take Haeg, who is developmental but is a true LT that could supplant DB in a year or two.

Don't think Nassib is a fit for us at all. He wins turning the edge on the outside, not holding the point of attack. I see him as a base 4-3 end. Don't think he fits as a 5' technique at all.

This sucks. We need a TE, but the TE votes are going to be split giving a default victory to Nassib. Come on boys, don't let Nassib win. We got rid of Graham already and he could be considered by some (except the coach) our best TE. We are GARBAGE there. Let's resolve this and get a TE.

And with that said I will split the TE vote....

Give me Jerell Adams out of SC. If we want an athletic TE, then give me the athletic TE that doesn't have broken knees. Nassib may present better value, but our defense did not score us any points when we faced a real playoff team last season and got our pants pulled down and kicked into the dirt in a 30-0 blowout loss against KC.

I love Nassib here. I would take him in round 2 if it were up to me.

He would be perfect opposite of Watt.

I agree that Nassib is the value pick here, but playing devil's advocate it seems as if we are totally disregarding pre-draft strategy. The talk was that we had to strengthen OL and WR and TE.

Give me Jerell Adams out of SC. If we want a weak TE (Higbee), then give me the more athletic weaker guy that doesn't have broken knees. Nassib may present better value, but our defense did not score us any points when we faced a real playoff team last season and got our pants pulled down and kicked into the dirt in a 30-0 blowout loss against KC.
Either oe of those TES could be had later.

You're blaming that loss on the defense? Lol.

You should edit my quote and take out the weak part. I thought 18 reps sounded kinda weak until I started looking at other TEs and realized it was actually pretty decent. You can leave the rest though.

As for getting TEs later, like 2-3 max have been grabbed so far and Texans aren't the only team with garbage at that position.

Clearly not what I said. I said the defense scored 0 points. Implying the offense needs to be the one scoring the points and as of last playoffs we were not capable of it.

I know everyone will point to the huge new QB we got, but (not to derail this too much) I don't see a guy much better than Brian Hoyer at this point in his career as of today.

Jihad Ward, Illinois, 5- tech DE 6-5 297

would be my vote for TEXANS

I would love to get ward here for us. I know most are high on Nassib, but I don't see him fitting our discussion well at all. We need someone who can be physical hold the point of attack, occupy blockers for our lbs, and generate an interior pass rush. That's what ward does, Nassib is an edge guy. Ward gets my vote as well

I'm not that high on Nassib. I get a little Bjeorn Werner vibe when I watch him. I loved Werner for the NFL and he's been a disappointment so maybe I'm biased a little and don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Then what difference is going to make if we draft a 4th or 5th round talent TE in the third round? CRick is gone and we have nothing but hot garbage at DE besides Watt.

If we want to stick with Offense only. Jordan Howard might work in our Offense and is compared with Arian Foster. But that comes with both the good and the bad side. Great ... when he plays...

Why don't you do you bro and I'll do me. You see a 5th round talent. I don't.

You also see a need to draft back to back WRs in rounds 1 and 2. I don't.

We all think a little bit differently I guess.

Here's the top player at our need positions on my board right now.

TE - Tyler Higbee
OT - Joe Haeg
C - Graham Glasgow
DE - Jihad Ward
S - K.J. Dillon

I don't consider RB to be a huge need since we acquired Miller but C.J. Prosise would be a good get here too.

I don't see Nassib as a fit in our scheme. He's a true 43 end. He's a tweener in our system. Not strong enough at the point of attack to play DE and not good enough in space for OLB.

Having said all that, My vote is for Jihad Ward. He's a true fit across from Watt in our system.

I didn't realize Haeg was on the board, I must have missed some posts. Id rather have him than Allen so I'll change my vote to Haeg.

I'm gonna be out in about 15 minutes. And I usually only look at computer once or twice over the weekend. I sent messages to @The Pencil Neck and @bah007 with three names for Steelers next pick. One of them will be there. I'll look in to make sure I don't miss my 4th rounder.

Have a great weekend fellas....

Agreed on Nassib.

I'll change my vote to Ward.

Tally as of now. Everybody check and make sure this is correct. Quote this post if you change your vote or when you do vote if you haven't yet. It's a giant pain to go back and read everything and tally it.

TE Jerrell Adams (1) - TexansFTW
TE Tyler Higbee (2) - Say Watt, Thunderkyss
OT Joe Haeg (1) - TexansSeminole
C Jack Allen (1) - austins23
C Graham Glasgow (1) - JB
DE Carl Nassib (4) - Lucky, mussop, Texian, The Pencil Neck
DE Jihad Ward (5) - bah007, beerlover, infantrycak, Marshall, Shishkabob
S K.J. Dillon (1) - WolverineFan

Yet to vote: @Doc Frost , @Mollywhopper , @srrono , and @steelbtexan

We have until 4:08 PM or until every eligible voter gets their vote in. Unless this turns into a runaway, which doesn't look likely right now.

I don't think there's a 3-down starter at DE here. A combination of Covington, Pagan, and Nassib would cover the position. I just don't see the value in having a bunch of guys with the same skill set. Losing Crick could be a blessing in disguise.

Changed my vote to Ward in a close call over Nassib. Both are raw, but Ward's most glaring weakness is against the cut blocks that were just banned.

But luckily, BO'B will have a very good measure of Nasib to either grab him or pass.

Cut blocks were not banned. They have and are perfectly legal. You're another one that confuses cut blocks and chop blocks

Not to change your vote since I voted Ward, but cut blocks have not been banned. Chop blocks were eliminated.
