I had set my filter to RB, TE, OT, OG/OC but I like the Carl Nassib idea.
I'm voting Nassib.

What about the commitment from the FO to shore up the offense?

Javon Hargrave, DT, South Carolina State

This is the small school guy that everyone should be high on. Not Springs and Butler. With the 79th selection in the 2016 Texans Talk Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select:

I'm guessing this is the main quote he's referring to:Got a link?
McNair said we're going to get a QB. I don't recall anything beyond that.
http://www.houstonpress.com/news/bo...iocrity-and-thats-not-going-to-change-8005508In the past few years, we’ve used most of our high picks on the defense,” McNair told Chronicle columnist Brian T. Smith. “It’s time that we went ahead and beefed up our offense.
He would be perfect opposite of Watt.Nassib has a similar story to Watt and If he became a Texan would likely be in lock step with JJ all along the way:
One of the better stories of the 2015 college football season, Nassib went from preferred walk-on status to two years of special teams play to leading the nation in sacks (school record 15.5) and forced fumbles (six) in his senior year. Nassib garnered unanimous All-American honors for his efforts(19.5 tackles for loss) while also winning the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Lombardi Award as the nation's top offensive or defensive lineman, the Ted Hendricks Award for the nation's top defensive end, and the Lott IMPACT (Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity) Trophy.
Either oe of those TES could be had later. This sucks. We need a TE, but the TE votes are going to be split giving a default victory to Nassib. Come on boys, don't let Nassib win. We got rid of Graham already and he could be considered by some (except the coach) our best TE. We are GARBAGE there. Let's resolve this and get a TE.
And with that said I will split the TE vote....
Give me Jerell Adams out of SC. If we want a weak TE (Higbee), then give me the more athletic weaker guy that doesn't have broken knees. Nassib may present better value, but our defense did not score us any points when we faced a real playoff team last season and got our pants pulled down and kicked into the dirt in a 30-0 blowout loss against KC.

I agree that Nassib is the value pick here, but playing devil's advocate it seems as if we are totally disregarding pre-draft strategy. The talk was that we had to strengthen OL and WR and TE.

You're blaming that loss on the defense? Lol.
Jihad Ward, Illinois, 5- tech DE 6-5 297
would be my vote for TEXANS

Clearly not what I said. I said the defense scored 0 points. Implying the offense needs to be the one scoring the points and as of last playoffs we were not capable of it.
I know everyone will point to the huge new QB we got, but (not to derail this too much) I don't see a guy much better than Brian Hoyer at this point in his career as of today.
Then what difference is going to make if we draft a 4th or 5th round talent TE in the third round? CRick is gone and we have nothing but hot garbage at DE besides Watt.
Can I vote against taking a TE?
Definitely in this round. None of these guys are with picking here.In this round or totally?
I noticed it didn't say it had to be through the draft. He beefed up Offense with free agents so we can take BPA which is heavily weighted to defense this year. I know it's tempting to reach, but it's not a good plan.I'm guessing this is the main quote he's referring to:

I'm heading out to dinner with the wife. So I may not be here for the end of this.
I'm inclined to go BPA here and take a Safety. The top 2 players left on my board are Safeties.
Darian Thompson, Boise State
K.J. Dillon, West Virginia
Thompson is a true center-fielder while Dillon is a combo guy like Andre Hal. If you want a ballhawk then take Thompson. If you want interchangeable Safeties (which is becoming more then norm in the NFL) then take Dillon. Either that or take Haeg, who is developmental but is a true LT that could supplant DB in a year or two.
Don't think Nassib is a fit for us at all. He wins turning the edge on the outside, not holding the point of attack. I see him as a base 4-3 end. Don't think he fits as a 5' technique at all.
Here's the top player at our need positions on my board right now.
TE - Tyler Higbee
OT - Joe Haeg
C - Graham Glasgow
DE - Jihad Ward
S - K.J. Dillon
I don't consider RB to be a huge need since we acquired Miller but C.J. Prosise would be a good get here too.
I don't see Nassib as a fit in our scheme. He's a true 43 end. He's a tweener in our system. Not strong enough at the point of attack to play DE and not good enough in space for OLB.
Having said all that, My vote is for Jihad Ward. He's a true fit across from Watt in our system.
Higbee has 2 votes. Forgot mine.TE Jerrell Adams (1) - TexansFTW
TE Tyler Higbee (1) - Thunderkyss
OT Joe Haeg (1) - TexansSeminole
C Jack Allen (1) - austins23
C Graham Glasgow (1) - JB
DE Carl Nassib (4) - Lucky, mussop, Texian, The Pencil Neck
DE Jihad Ward (5) - bah007, beerlover, infantrycak, Shishkabob, Marshall
SS K.J. Dillon (1) - WolverineFan
Changed my vote to Ward in a close call over Nassib. Both are raw, but Ward's most glaring weakness is against the cut blocks that were just banned.
But luckily, BO'B will have a very good measure of Nasib to either grab him or pass.
