Actually you can see wobbly legs in a player that has suffered an acute thigh contusion, the injury that Stroud sustained. It can cause weakness, stiffness and/or tightness of the leg. The pain is usually immediate and can be severe, making it difficult to walk or even move the leg. For the aforementioned reasons, a thigh contusion injury has been coined "Dead Leg."@CloakNNNdagger, I just saw your post about Stroud appearing to exhibit the fencer's pose. Last week I was suspicious that he was concussed even though he passed the initial sideline evaluation. His legs had been wobbly when he stood up on the field, but he claimed the wind was knocked out of him. I hope that's all it was, but that's not what wobbly legs usually indicate.
I doubt he's ready to play next week. And I hope he doesn't. I would rather lose a playoff run, heck even a Super Bowl if the situation demanded, than ruin an athlete's retirement years when he's only 22. Junior Seau's suicide permanently influenced my perspective on this topic. No entertainment is worth that kind of sacrifice.

I went to a residential school so legs were open season. We would randomly knee each others thighs all year long. It was brutal. Painful. And wildly fun… especially when we would tag team them with a double knee in each thigh simultaneously.I'm glad that's all it was. I'd hate for it to be consecutive concussions within a week. I still remember what you told us about Deandre Hopkins' propensity for concussions that began with his car wreck, and how each concussion makes the brain more vulnerable to another. Especially when not given time to properly recuperate.
But then that reminds me of what you said your neurologist colleague said: "If you've seen one concussion, you've seen one concussion," meaning each one is different.
"Dead leg" was the game my idiot friends and I played by sucker-punching one another in the quad so we couldn't walk. It's amazing any of us grew up to become functioning adults.
It all boils down to protecting the QB and making play calls that reduce the chances of him getting hits like that - for example, if you're playing a team that is continually getting through to the QB, you have to alter your calls and prime the QB to get the ball out faster.@CloakNNNdagger, I just saw your post about Stroud appearing to exhibit the fencer's pose. I don't want to see Stroud back on Sunday, regardless of the concussion protocol. He must take a week off, minimum. I want to see the Texans in the playoff as much as anyone. But this is the franchise we're talking about. Wait until Stroud is absolutely recovered...then add a week. If he's done for the season, so be it.After reviewing film on CJ Stroud's turf hit, I believe that he showed distinct signs of taking the fencers pose which was less evident because he rolled to his side. This makes me doubt that he has much of a chance of clearing the concussion protocol for the next game. Hope I'm wrong.
I see it but still pictures don’t really tell the whole story. i do not see a fencers pose in the video itself. Here is a photo of CJ on the ground after the Williams hit. I think you can see his arm raised in that fencers pose.

I also would not want to CJ next week. Not understood by the lay fan, the Concussion Protocol has always been of questionable validity..........and established more to appear as established for the safety of the player, where it really serves to the advantage of the League to get the player back onto the field. Much of it depends too heavily on player subjectiveness and manipulatio rather than sophisticated object testing.I don't want to see Stroud back on Sunday, regardless of the concussion protocol. Notice Stroud looking at Williams after he's released the pass? I'm sure he involuntarily tensed upWilliams saw Stroud release the pass. Then took 2 steps. Should have been flagged. Must be fined.

Agree.
Another blow like that could be serious if not fully healed.
Players were just a different breed of animal back then. Today’s bunch… sigh.1978/1979 - Roger Staubach got knocked out one time after another - stayed out/down/not-moving - 19 times. I got where I couldn't even watch it !

Will be 82 in February. How old is Staubach today.
Will be 82 in February.
I'm guessing he hasn't suffered from CTE.
I don't thinks brains have changed much from the 70's.Players were just a different breed of animal back then. Today’s bunch… sigh.
You don't know until he dies and his brain is opened.I'm guessing he hasn't suffered from CTE.
The Umpire is in the video shot, watching the QB all the time. The Referee is out of view on the other side doing the same thing. And this was a crew on double secret probation or something. The whole point of these rules are to protect the QB. The lifeblood of this game. Yet, both guys are just frozen. The NFL really has to get together at the owners meetings this offseason and really address the consistency of calls b/c it has been especially terrible this year.
Being pointed out on 610 right now, a reminder that Stroud was also removed from the Bronco game for a brief time and examined for a concussion. That's two games in a row. Commented that he hasn't been at his best and maybe has been suffering some lingering effect. Said they might would hold him out of the Titan game even if cleared to play. Several posters have suggested the same.
More research is necessary but it sure seems that things such as brains/humans/etc are most evolving a bit faster than the norm. People are built different over time. It shows.I don't thinks brains have changed much from the 70's.
So your assertion is that brains have evolved over 50 years to become more susceptible to concussions? I don't think you're going to find much scientific data to support that.More research is necessary but it sure seems that things such as brains/humans/etc are most evolving a bit faster than the norm. Mine has, .... I think it's on a race to the bottom .... and way out front ! Overly competitive !I don't thinks brains have changed much from the 70's.
Is this the kind of thing that can be alleviated by shutting him down for the season or will there always be a bit of lingering potential to re-injure?As this is the 2nd calf tear in the last month for Nico Collins, I would not be surprised if Collins does not make it back this season...........and if he tries, I wouldn't expect for him to be himself, not even to mention his chances of extending his injury or suffering another compensatory injury.
Stroud obviously took a severe hit to his head on the turf. He definitely exhibited brainstem trauma reflex taking the fencers pose.............demonstrated by both still photo.........I see it but still pictures don’t really tell the whole story. i do not see a fencers pose in the video itself. Calf tears can take weeks to months to allow return to play. Re-injury has been shown to be at risk for 2 seasons post injury. Is this the kind of thing that can be alleviated by shutting him down for the season or will there always be a bit of lingering potential to re-injure?
That looks like a late hit.Stroud obviously took a severe hit to his head on the turf. He definitely exhibited brainstem trauma reflex taking the fencers pose.............demonstrated by both still photo.........

Clearly. I’m just a guy sitting on his couch trying to jump in on the conversation. My thoughts aren’t scientific. So your assertion is that brains have evolved over 50 years to become more susceptible to concussions? I don't think you're going to find much scientific data to support that.
Definitely late and Williams knew it! Hence his apology tweet. That looks like a late hit.
Staubach is almost 82 and he's better off mentally than the most powerful person in the world. Dementia is tough.I don't thinks brains have changed much from the 70's.
You don't know until he dies and his brain is opened.
Times have changed and because of this I have to believe the brain has also changed. So your assertion is that brains have evolved over 50 years to become more susceptible to concussions? I don't think you're going to find much scientific data to support that.

I don't see any intent to hurt CJ. I would bet that left arm push was so he could avoid landing on CJ with his full body weight, which is now a penalty. That's a lot to ask from a big man moving at full speed. What I saw was the hit on Stroud not being the main issue but the left arm follow through that increased the velocity of the fall and the smacking of his helmet on the turf. Eliminate the follow through and Stroud probably gets up and back into the huddle. This where I see the intent to hurt CJ versus just knocking him down.

I say let's put CJ in bubble-wrap and not open until 2024 TC.
Both Cashman and Tavierre Thomas have suffered a Grade II hamstring. They won't be playing Sunday. They are not likely to play the week after either.
Will Anderson Jnr DNP again Thursday, I’m guessing when Doc catches us up it will not be looking good for him to play Sunday?
