Could they do the same with Keenum if so desired? This removes him from IR and makes him eligible to return to the team by Week 5 if he is not signed by another team.

I dont think so...I believe they put him on the season ending IR...Could they do the same with Keenum if so desired?
Yeah. It would be a whole lot easier to go through the NFL for 10 years for a smaller pension. It’s not good money if they can’t get steady work from it. Too many layoffs.
From what I've heard all sides are considering Keenum's injury a season ender.Could they do the same with Keenum if so desired?
INJURY REPORT Week 1
TEXANS
Player Position Injury Wed Thu Fri Game Status M.J. Stewart SAF DNP UNSPECIFIED
STEWART-DON'T KNOW WHY THE INJURY WAS NOT IDENTIFIED..............IT IS A KNEE INJURY...............HE IS ALSO STILL REHABBING FROM HIS NOV 2023 SHOULDER FRACTURE.
I still don't feel very comfortable with Anderson returning for this game.
Bringing a player back too early from injury, especially in the case of an injury such as a significant high ankle sprain, may not result in seeing the problem manifest the first game back, but will many times have longer term implications.Me either. I'm starting to get concerned we're going to run this kid into the ground and start impeding him with body wear and tear that is permanent. How they handled his injury last season looked way too short sighted and I'm afraid they're continuing the same mistake.
Makes more sense to risk it when you're so close to making the playoffs and playing in the playoffs - Even if I don't agree with it. This early in the season? No reason to risk further damage imo.
He hasn't played at all this preseason.Bringing a player back too early from injury, especially in the case of an injury such as a significant high ankle sprain, may not result in seeing the problem manifest the first game back, but will many times have longer term implications.
good question....will he be on a pitch count? I know that high ankle sprains take a really long time to heal properly and get back to 100%...but that time varies from person to person too...so thats another unknown. He hasn't played at all this preseason.
How much longer would you recommend they hold him out?
If he plays and is healthy, how many plays would you have him participating in, since obviously he's not going to be in top shape?

Have the Texans ever shown that they wait for the player to be 100% before returning from injury, barring season-ending injuries/illnesses? I don't trust the opinions of their medical staff and I damn sure don't trust the player to be honest about their status.good question....will he be on a pitch count? Anderson just began running less than a week ago. This was straight line running. The next stage of rehab is concentrating on strengthening and proprioception training (gaining awareness of the leg, foot and joint positions in space) which usually will require at least ~2 weeks before cutting drills are safely allowed. Then safe game play (to lessen the potential for re-injury) will need additional time for strengthening and proprioception.
It doesn't seem to me that Anderson can return for the Colts game as safely as he should.
Hmmm. Thanks for clarifying that this is the NFL.Seems like speculation unless you’ve got some specific knowledge of his situation. It’s the NFL. Guys play hurt. Back in the day, they would play on one ftoot with 3 broken fingers.
Years ago I read a book by HOF player Art Donovan called Fatso: Football when men were really men.
Great book. I highly recommend it. It’s been probably 25+ years since I read it, but even then…I was like these players today (90s) can’t hold a candle to those guys in the 50’s.
These players today would piss their pants if they lined up across from Art or some of his contemporaries of his era. Get the book. It’s very entertaining, funny and engaging.
Appoximately when would you put him back on the field?I already answered that question in the Texans/Colts thread a couple days ago. Estimated times to return from injury do not override the appropriate progress that is or isn't being made in the rehab process.
What benchmarks would you set for a return to play for a high ankle sprain and why? What would you look for from a performance level?Bringing a player back too early from injury, especially in the case of an injury such as a significant high ankle sprain, may not result in seeing the problem manifest the first game back, but will many times have longer term implications.

Read my original post. What benchmarks would you set for a return to play for a high ankle sprain and why? What would you look for from a performance level?
Id prefer a pitch count on him just to limit his playtime and try to bring him back up to full speed slowly....but of course he plays like the tazmanian devel and like his hair is on fire...so just hoping he doesnt aggravate it again/more and gets back to 100% for the rest of the seasonI’m concerned about Anderson no doubt. All I’m saying is it’s a physical sport. Guys are getting paid to play through pain, like it or not. There is millions and millions of dollars on the line. Dollars distort reality. If the players want to be paid like they are…they have to play when they are less than 100% healthy.
He has been fully cleared, and all we can do is hope it’s not a limiting factor tomorrow and forward. I suspect it may be unfortunately..but TBD.
I went back and looked. I didn't see when you thought it would be appropriate for him to play. I didn't check the Texans - Colts game day thread.Read my original post.

Do you really believe that only 1 player SHOULD be on the Injury Report?WOW!! Even at the beginning of a season I don’t recall ever seeing an injury report with just 1 player on it.
I I know the injury report is a chess piece used between teams but…. I myself have no reason to believe otherwise. It’s a new season. Theoretically, everybody -should- be fresh and ready to go.Do you really believe that only 1 player SHOULD be on the Injury Report?

5 1/2 months. A run of the mill grade II high takes at least 6-8 weeks. off careful rehab........and some take months more.so how many weeks has it been now? has it been over a month?? I cant remember when he initially got hurt was being held out.
I thought he was ruled OUT -before- the game.![]()
Texans Lose CB to Injury vs. Colts
The Houston Texans are leaving the midwest after a 29-27 win against the Indianapolis Colts in their season opener, but they are walking away a little more bangwww.si.com
He was not on the list of inactives that I saw before they gave. This CBS article also states that he played in the game briefly before leaving with a hip injury. I did not hear any of that during the game.I thought he was ruled OUT -before- the game.

Perhaps he was injured in the pregame activities? As I said I never saw him on the field but that would not be unusual. He was zero on the snap count list
I get game day automatic text messages… and one of those had Okudah -out- for the game much earlier in the day. I want to say as early as like 8:30am. That was posted on NFL.com at 1:55 pm
- Houston Texans cornerback Jeff Okudah(hip) was ruled out against the Colts.
Third cornerback Jeff Okudah has finally returned to practice from his hip injury. Earlier in camp, they tried to have him begin practicing, but quickly had to back off. Hopefully, his return will be uninterrupted.
He was zero on the snap count list
Do you know which play it was that he got hurt on?I was skeptical that Okudah's hip was ready for return.
Snap counts aren't counted on STs...........when he was RE-injured.

Sorry, can't read it.
Evidently, some sites enumerate STs snap counts while others don't. As I originally posted, the re-injury must have occurred on a STs play.
The snap counts I posted are from Pro Football Reference. You can also find snap counts (including special teams) from the NFL Gamebooks, it's just easier for me to post from pro football reference.Evidently, some sites enumerate STs snap counts while others don't. @Lucky congratulations, you’ve been hired! We will be expecting snap counts posted here as soon as they are posted. Thank you in advance! The snap counts I posted are from Pro Football Reference. It's not magic. Unless you're morally opposed to posting links, like @steelbtexan.@Lucky congratulations, you’ve been hired! We will be expecting snap counts posted here as soon as they are posted. Thank you in advance!
A man without standards isn't a man. Might as well change their pronouns to it and be done with it.It's not magic. Unless you're morally opposed to posting links, like @steelbtexan.

Ah, I did not know that and that helps clarify the picture.I was skeptical that Okudah's hip was ready for return.

I think it all depends on where you're getting your snapcounts from. Some places list ST and some places don't.Ah, I did not know that and that helps clarify the picture.
Edit.. until other info says they are counted. This is what I like .. ambiguity!
I can't figure out why anyone would not count them as special teams are such an important part of the game.I think it all depends on where you're getting your snapcounts from. Some places list ST and some places don't.
well that sucks...Like Schultz as a security blanket...Schultz did not practice today. He is unlikely to play Sunday. If he tries, it will likely be more as a decoy.
Stewart didn't practice today and will not play Sunday.
And how have you found this out?The Texans are being somewhat disingenuous on reporting Stewart's injury as knee injury when in fact I have found that it is a grade II quadriceps TENDON injury. This is a long-term injury with a questionable prognosis.
