2 yrs ago Herbert had Storm Norton and the Texans very own Q protecting him, or not protecting him at NRG that Sunday. They've done nothing to upgrade their OL except they got lucky to get Salyer. A team goes as its OL/DL goes and Telesco has done a terrible job. IMHO Beerlover is the guy you need to talk about this with. He and I talk Chargers football, but he can go much more in depth about the Chargers issues than I can. According to BL they've wasted Herbert's rookie contract.
Why would Cal/Hannah tell Caserio to take Stroud, specifically. I could see the directive to come away with a franchise QB. I could also see the McNairs demanding Nick to trade up for Young, if for marketing. But I can’t see them demanding Nick select Stroud. That was the result determined by the draft process.
So from here on, you should be sporting the Fire Caserio pink soap avatar.

Because that's how his daddy started this franchise. Taking marketability ove substance. I think Hannah/Cal told Caserio to pick a QB because they needed somebody to be able to market. Ryans wanted Stroud, so that's who Caserio picked.
Yes, In 3 yrs the pink soap wont be optional anymore. I would fire Caserio right now on the spot for picking Stroud, whether Ryans wanted Stroud or not.

I think he’s smarter than he sounds. A lot of people are better at doing than talking. That boy sure is tough to listen to speak though.

The Texans org better hope so, or this franchise is screwed. Maybe the best thing would be for Stroud to be a Gabbert type qb, so they won't be stuck in mediocrity.

I'm sure it's part of making Stroud "earn" the position.
I seriously doubt, even though it is what I would do, anyone is planning to starting the season with Stroud not being the starter.
I think that's the right approach but after summer practice and preseason games, I believe that CJ will be the starter for game one. CJ is too damn good to sit on the bench.

I get the feeling Demeco is truly going to go with the guy he feels gives the best chance to win games. Right now, I think he probably feels like Mills has an edge...May not be more talented, but they may feel like he's just a better pro at this point...
I think Stroud is going to have to look really good, Mills really bad, or a combo of the two in order for their roles to be reversed.
I mentioned it earlier, but with so much changing these are valuable reps.
It'll be interesting to see how many snaps Stroud gets with the starters in practice. If he is being worked in with the starting group here and there then I'll believe he has a chance to start game 1.

Demeco may very well feel that way, but how would he come to the conclusion that Mills is the one? Keenum I could understand.
Caserio may have provided some input, a strong suggestion maybe. I like Mills, but watching Mills get benched for Allen? I can't see how a completely objective person would name Mills ahead of Case.
OTAs are OTAs, I wouldn't be surprised if Stroud doesn't take any snaps with the 1st team.
The "schedule" teams usually follow is that the rookie impressed in OTAs & earned starter snaps in TC. He's probably going to play most through the preseason games & earn the starting job by week 1.

Help me understand why you think Stroud is dumb. I think I understand, because of his S2 score. But we all know S2 is not about measuring intelligence. His 3.0 gpa points to his intelligence.
So there's got to be something else. What am I missing?

If marketability was the driving force, why didn't Cal/Hannah tell Caserio to trade up with the Bears to take Bryce Young? More marketable. Instead, Nick drafts a David Mulugheta client. Doesn't sound like something Cal would force to happen. Unless, you have a source that says otherwise. Your sources haven't gotten anything right, yet. But there's always a first.

Houston has reportedly rebuffed trade inquiries into Mills, who started 15 games last year and managed 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Only Baker Mayfield had a worse completion rate over expected than Mills in 2022. C.J. Stroud will start Week 1 barring some kind of catastrophic setback in training camp. Mills could be on another roster by then.

Well to be fair Watson was/is dumb.. at the very least he makes dumbass decisions.
Having said that, I'm not going to call Stroud dumb, because I don't really know anything about the guy yet. The first paragraph of the 1st chapter of his NFL career hasn't even been written yet.

I don't have a good feeling about this. The fact that his OL and WR were all future NFLers, his WRs were mostly wide open, big windows to throw to, and Ryan Day's O really protects the QB, why Day's QBs don't fare well in the NFL, Pre-determined reads doesn't go thru progressions, holds the ball too long and panics under pressure are just a few reasons for starters. Slow processor and NFL game will be too fast for him. I think it is going to be Zach Wilson 2.0.
If Stroud was a Caserio pick, he should be fired.

Stroud was probably my least favorite QB of the top 4 guys, but I think he'll be solid. I don't think he's going to be a guy where you don't even think about QB position for the next decade...but I think/hope this offense will help him a lot.
This is where I'm at with Stroud and it's the worst place in the NFL to be.
