Rodgers and Manning were great regular season QBs. Not so much in the playoffs. How many times did Rodgers choke after earning home field advantage in the playoffs?

I think Mills is better than we have seen up to this point Even with that being said it is not saying much.
Stroud has the potential to be special and no matter when he starts he will be ready.
I don’t know man, Mills looks fine one moment then couldn’t make a play if his life depended on it.

....for the Texans in 2021 and 2022, who wouldn't suck? Smart and strong veteran QB's wouldn't touch this team, during those 2 years, with a 10' pole.....much like HC'ing candidates. Are you under the impression that the Texans provided Mills the best development opportunity in the NFL?

I was a Mills guy the last two seasons. I really rooted for him to succeed. I saw the potential and was willing to take the losing - because the entire team was bad - if we saw the development from Mills into a legit starter. And I get that he had two different offenses and not a lot of support. But what got me to the point where I was ready to move on was two things: only really looking consistently capable when the game was out of hand, and throwing to 10-foot tall receivers. That last one had nothing to do with coaches, schemes or surrounding talent.
No it was the worst situation.
But I watched the dude play and the problems he has is because of who he is as a quarterback, I don’t see him rising above those inadequacies even the best of circumstances.
I want to see what the Rookie can do with this team and scheme.
And if Mills lights it up in training camp then give him the job, but my money is on CJ.
I'm not sold that Mills won't make a decent NFL starter. Most of them aren't very good.
But yes, a QB that's over his head will look better when the game is out of reach. Teams usually stop throwing new things at them. & play prevent or something.
We drafted CJ, the Texans are moving on. But I don't see why it would be a problem if the Texans had two capable QBs.

A lot depends on Slowik. Up until 2019 he had only coached on the defensive side of the ball. He was an offensive assistant in 2019. He's moved up the ladder quickly. Has it been too quick?

Look at all the good football players that have been here only to shrivel on the vine of mediocre to terrible coaching. I'm still excited to see what happens next, though. Hope springs eternal, I guess.

In my opinion, Mills was as much a stop-gap QB as David Culley was a stop-gap Head Coach. Mills provided us with a cheap QB to carry this franchise through a couple of bad seasons.
The best hope for Mills is to find a re-birth with another franchise much like Tannehill experienced with the Titans. The Texans have moved on, and we thank him for his service.

That's one of the reasons I want Stroud to start day one. He has already been set up to be more successful than Mills ever had a chance to be. When you pick a QB 1-2 you should expect him to be better than Mills right away. They went all in on Stroud/Anderson let's see how this plays out. I think eventually Stroud will be a QB that can get you to the playoffs. You can't win a championship with him. Hopefully sometimes within the next 5 years there's a Purdy moment.moment.

You have been watching football for decades. Yet, in the ultimate team sport. You either give all credit or all blame to the QB. No nuance or shades of gray to your opinion. It's all black or white.
If a QB you like throws for 70 yards and wins a game, he is clutch and a winner. If a QB you dislike throws for 300 yards, leads his team on a late drive, goes to the sideline with 50 seconds left and his defense gives up a game winning TD, it's the QB's fault for losing the game.
At this point. I don't think the daily back and forth you engaged in is to change your mind. It's posters trying to make sense of a biased, illogical opinion. It's the ultimate rabbit hole. Good work sir.
The QB is the leader of the team. I prefer winners to lead the team. It's not all on the QB just like it's not all on the coaches. But after time trends start to develop, where some of the best QB's don't perform well under pressure. Guys like McNabb for example.

I stopped replying a month or so ago. Heels dug in hoping for a told you so moment is the weirdest **** ever if you’re a real fan of this franchise.
Even weirder is I KNOW he’s a real fan so this is being driven by a multitude of dynamics beyond what is being posted and displayed. It’s personal, which is fine but let’s face it we all have things outside of this team that are more important so dying on that hill is just odd.
I’d NEVER take a position like that HOPING to be right and ROOTING for failure. How else can you frame it? I want to be RIGHT so my team that I root for has to FAIL. Be it QB issue or not if the ultimate prize is not secured then see “I told you so.”
