Which QB should the Texans consider signing/trading for?

So there IS an example of a midgit QB winning the SB !

Doing a little digging, I find 247Sports listing Young's college size as 5'11" and 197 lbs. They also list his high school size as 5'11" and 183 lbs.

I also found Rivals listing his high school size as 6'0" and 180 lbs.

For comparison, Wilson weighed in at the combine as 5'10 5/8" and 204 lbs.

So, looking forward to the combine.
To add to the mystery of Young's height, I found this for those who have compared Young with Saban: it's reported Saban wears shoe inserts, maybe as tall as 3". This has been noticed when he stands next to other people such as 6'0" Rodger Goodell and when he stood next to 6'1" President Obama.

So, for that photo of Young and Saban posted here, Young very well could be in the range of 5'11" to 6'0".

Does this make a difference? Change anyone's mind or concern?

What odds?

There hasn't been a short QB 5'11 or shorter rated highly because they're not good, not because they're short.

I'm not saying I want Young, but the fact that he's rated highly is because he's better than any short QB that came before him.

I'm still digging, but so far I think he passed many tests.

He doesn't get many batted passes.
He seems to be able to maneuver around to find a passing lane.
He's a player.

For the next round, I will try to look as to whether he's able to throw muddy or how he might be able to get around those situations by moving around the pocket (like Brees).

I've been watching Caleb Williams' tape too, and I don't like what I saw in the two games against Utah.
Caleb is still a great prospect; I'm not sure I can say he's better than the prospects in this current class.

Lincoln Riley matters.
The guys around Caleb matter, too.

I'm watching Maye's tape at the moment.
I like him less at the moment with the current string of losses.
He's still young and though and I hope to see some growth next year.
But no, right now, he's not better than some of the prospects this year.
Tagged for reference.

from last Friday:

Don’t doubt the power of Mills, Pep, and Lovie.

Plus - rookies going to do rookie things.
If Caserio does what Mangler suggested, they would have to openly embrace the tank and even then it would be difficult to match the current team

I dont think it would be hard to be a 2 win team. So you're probably right.

Cool.

Say, how’s your track record predicting what the Texans will do?
For 1.1 pretty good, Carr, Williams and Clowney. While this is who I thought the Texans would draft I didn't necessarily agree with Carr and Clowney. I preferred Peppers over Carr, and Clowney was a no brainer since he came from Daddy McNair's alma mater, I believed Spurrier's comments concerning Clowney. Daddy McNair was enamoured with Carr and couldn't wait to dress him up and take him to all the Houston Gala Balls.

well if pip and lovie are staying then i say draft two rookie qbs in the draft if the 2nd one falls 2 us ...and play both of them LOL u wanna upgrade the offensive how about getting to brand new good Point guards

if not ill take tom brady just to get the tickets sales up and buzz and besides i wanna see the GOAT qb in a texans uniform even if he sucks LOL

Maybe Bryce Young with Herndon Hendon round 2 and let our vet Davis Mills coach them up?

Unfortunately you will probably be correct.

The McNair's going for the money over substance.
I doubt Caserio drafts Bryce Young or CJ Stroud. I can see him going after a vet QB while revamping the offensive line and front seven, then going after one of the highest rated QBs after the 2023 season. It’s not like Pep is going to ruin draft position due to his oh so great coaching.

Don't ask to be the Browns.

Where is splash in that?

I have not looked close enough to have a long list of QBs, but here are a few that come to mind…

Baker Mayfield: With the Panthers releasing Baker Mayfield, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Texans to sign him to a team friendly deal.

Gardner Minshew: His $2,540,000 salary isn’t bad at all and the guy has shown to be a competent QB. He may not be franchise material but I think he could be better than prime Schaub, and that would be a very good thing. Would the Eagles accept a 5th and a 6th rd pick?

Jimmy G: I know some posters here want absolutely nothing to do with Jimmy G, but I honestly feel that he’s a way better QB than Trey Lance will ever be. Jimmy G (barring injury) would have more than likely won those close games for us this season. Not saying Jimmy G would get us to the promise land, but he’s be a good mentor for our future franchise QB to sit behind and learn.

Jacoby Brissett: The Browns will more than likely not be able to keep him due to Derapist’s ridiculous contract, so he’ll probably hit the free agent market once this season ends. While not my first choice, he’s a somewhat capable QB.

What say you?

I think Bryce young will not be a good nfl QB. He’s way too small. Hard pass for me
I have this feeling as well. If he was just short, then that's not necessarily a deal breaker. But he doesn't have a stocky lower half like Russell Wilson does and I think this is a recipe for injury at the next level for a guy who will have to make a bunch of plays out of the pocket to be effective in the pros. Even Kyer Murray has a noticeably thicker lower half. There's no guarantee Young will remain a fast-twitch athlete if he bulks up 15 pounds. Could be wrong here... His combine performance is a must-watch for me before making any determinations.

Couldn’t agree more! My stance remains the same; pass on drafting a QB in the first round.
