The NFL "investigation" is not closed. Why?
The NFL has already stated they find no reason to put him on the CEL. Unless they open another investigation they'll have no reason to put him on the list before the season.
So everyone on his team is a piece of dirt
if watson really wants to play this year...
I'm just basing this comment on the language of the NFL contract that CnnnD posted. If Goodell were to decide that the Watson dilemma was detrimental to the NFL, he may take a new tact. The end of the old contract, which he was willing to see thru, and the beginning of a new contract, which changes the situation, presents the opportunity. I think the odds are he doesn't do anything but he could. Why?

Deshaun Watson’s QB coach Quincy Avery makes fun of Texans ‘Walmart’ receivers
In an appearance on The Ryen Russillo podcast, the quarterbacks coach praised Deshaun...www.chron.com
Deshaun is not a solid quarterback. He’s not a guy who’s had a good run. This is a gangster. The way he unites a room, the way that he shows up, the way he prepares ... People don’t realize this guy’s study habits, and the way he prepares. He’s not (just) a baller. He’s not (just) a guy who runs around and makes plays. He’s as sophisticated of a learner as I’ve been around. I don’t even care what team he goes on. He’s a top three MVP candidate this year."
These youngsters these days love to get over on these billionaire owners. And what’s crazy some of these owners doesn’t give two fossils. Look at the NBA, John Wall is getting paid 40+ million to sit on the bench.I don't believe Watson wants to play this year, as long as he's getting paid.
Right, until the Texans do something like stop paying him.
I understand they may have no legal right to do so, but I would let it go to arbitration & legally maneuver it to keep pushing off that arbitration.
Not paying him might be a breach of contract?I'd wonder if that would be a breech of contract under the CBA and make Watson a FA to go anywhere he wants without compensation to the Texans.
They've go to try to make him play if they are going to pay him for another year. Let him gimp out and act the fool.
Been saying this since day. They can make him play and if he refuses, they can get in his money. They should've done this last year. And that’s what I would do, stop paying him and or hit him with fines as well.
Not paying him might be a breach of contract?
Not playing is not a breach of contract.
Sounds like we need arbitration. "Jack, schedule something for next July."
Have they tried to make him play and he refused?
It was my understanding that there was a mutual decision by both sides before the 2021 season to not force the issue.
Doesn’t surprise me. Methinks Flores was tampering with him and with him gone it’s off the table.
I think that door has been closed by both sides.![]()
Dolphins G.M. Chris Grier: Door is shut on Deshaun Watson
The Dolphins were linked to a trade for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson for much of last year, but nothing came to fruition and many wondered if the team plans to pursue a deal again this offseason.profootballtalk.nbcsports.com
I think that door has been closed by both sides.
Nothing is moving until any criminal case results are known. It has closed. I think Watson is watching in real time as to how his free agency market is playing out.
If Watson would come out and say he’d waive his NTC for the Buc’s and Commanders…..things just might start moving on that front.
In my book, Washington would still be in the driver’s seat, based on the package they could put together.
I also think it was a mutual interest between them and the commish/league. Playing him with all those allegations would not have been good for business.
The key will be before opening day 2022. Forget the start of free agency period. And before the draft doesn't seem reasonable. Before opening week or maybe even training camp? That is still possible. And while carrying Watson's $35 million cap hit on the books until that point eliminates any major free agent maneuvering this offseason, that $35 mil can be pushed to the 2023 cap. And by then, maybe just maybe, the Texans will be ready to spend some $$$ on quality free agents and possibly compete. Maybe. Possibly. But now with $35 million on the line, I think the Texans need to push the issue with both Watson and the league if they are unable to trade him before the 2022 season.

It's not a murder case. Pretty sure there will be some type of resolution by then on the criminal side.I didn't (Still dont) think Derrick's legal issues will be resolved before the start of the 2022 season.

If he is charged, then no there won’t beIt's not a murder case. Pretty sure there will be some type of resolution by then on the criminal side.
Maybe not a murder case, but lots of folks here in Houston (not to mention the national audience) are extremely interested in whether or not this is tried in a criminal court which leads me to believe (and for sure not a lawyer here), it doesn't seem plausible that they'd string this out this long if the DA doesn't intend to pop Watson with a GJ session. It's not a murder case. The most interesting are the comments at the end of the article.

Very strange trade idea. Keep Watson and trade Mills to Denver? I don't think it would happen

Houston Texans send Davis Mills to Denver Broncos in proposed trade
The Houston Texans already have one quarterback with trade rumors. A proposed trade suggests that there could be two quarterbacks on the move.torotimes.com
I'd do it for a mid to high 2nd.Internet spitballing at its weakest.

Always the instigator.I'd do it for a mid to high 2nd.
I'd do it for a mid to high 2nd.
Here's where I'm headed: I think ultimately Watsons dumb young azz is gonna find his self in a criminal courtroom.Grand Jury has already been called. I don't understand where you're going with the rest.
Why not trade both and as we are going to have a high pick in 2023 go for Stroud with our first pick? If Davis Mills is considered by many to be better than any quarterback in 2022, why is he only worth a mid to high round two in your opinion? He should be worth Pick 9 from Denver. Many mocks have panthers, Broncos and Washington going for quarterbacks with their first pick.I'd do it for a mid to high 2nd.
I obviously don't agree with "many"If Davis Mills is considered by many to be better than any quarterback in 2022, why is he only worth a mid to high round two in your opinion?
So your trades would be based upon your evaluation rather than what a buyer thinks a player is worth?I obviously don't agree with "many"
You think the buyer thinks he's worth a high 1st? I'm not going to tell them, "No, I won't take your first round pick." & I'm not going to start negotiations at their 2nd round pickSo your trades would be based upon your evaluation rather than what a buyer thinks a player is worth?
I obviously don't agree with "many"
RichObviously you are biased.
Mills is the 2nd best QB so far in this class and since he's played so little he's got a chance to be the best. In fact he was the best the last month of the season. My question is if you dont like Mills, who do you like and what qualities is Mills missing compared to the QB's you like?
Rich
i like Mills alright. My ideal guy would be a little bigger, Josh Allen/Justin Herbert, more arm talent.
I think it’s 50/50 that Mills could develop into a top 15 QB. I think it’s 50/50 his trade value will never be higher than it is right now.
I’m sorry we disagree. But it’s ok.He was a top 15 QB over the last month of the season. That's working with verry few weapons, a bad OL and an abysmal running game.
I’m sorry we disagree. But it’s ok.
I'd do it for a mid to high 2nd.
@badboy ..... "I'd do it for Mr. Irrelevant. All your draft picks are mine!"Always the instigator.
