Head Coach Candidate (Lovie Smith Hired) 2/7/22

I understand what your saying. I truly do. The Easterby stuff made me turn my head when it was not just media but players as well. Then the SI article. There was enough to be a little leary. I am all for change and I like Cassario. Unfortunately perception is reality and Easterby has cemented his rep long ago with the fanbase. Now when you see someone who has never even coached a highschool team get an interview for coach it will make everyone's ears perk up. If they actually hire him then most peoples fears of Easterby will be confirmed (rationally or not). The optics are curious at best.

There's always going to be disgruntled guys when there's regime change.

Rootes/Palcic were the former employees that helped put out the SI article. Disgruntled employees that had never helped bring a championship to Kirby. They did help make the McNair's alot if money though. There was a climate of sexual harassment in the FO under their watch. So I take what they say with a grain of salt.

Same thing with the players who want out. They weren't getting the playing time that have been given to them in past regimes. Good riddance.

I just realized that Jack had signed McCown to a 2 year deal. Dude loves him some McCown.
The Preacher Man has found his NEW HC, Josh McCown. Josh will have the File Clerk in his ear from the booth and the Preacher Man in his face on the field.

Maybe if you look at the new NFL rules on interviewing, things can make a little more sense to you. The NFL has for the first time allowed interviews in the last 2 weeks of the regular season for a HC vacancy. They have encouraged the interviewing of many candidates.............slow walking a decision, as opposed to patterns of yesteryears where teams were in a supersonic race to fill the position. They have also encourage the interviews specifically of ex-NFL players. And all of this to strongly encourage "diversity."

Here's just one article that exemplifies the above.

NFL's New Head Coach Interview Rule: Details, Impact on Bears

I'm comparing what Luhnow did to what Caserio is currently doing. Out with the old and in with the new. (Bringing in their guys) Easterby has nothing to do with football opps according to Cal/Caserio. Dont buy what the media is trying to sell you. They're doing this because controversy sells. Look at your post as an example. The media not just in sports but in general is evil.

In short I will continue to believe Cal/Caserio until they give me reason not to believe them.

We can agree that Caserio makes the final decisions on all football and personnel matters. On numerous interviews, McClain confirm that Caserio is the GM and makes final decisions on all football related matters and seeks input from many people in the front office and that includes Easterby. So that aligns with your belief that Caserio is making the final decisions.

However, as long as Easterby is providing solicited and unsolicited "input" no one outside of NRG knows what percentage of Easterby's input is agreed, disagreed or ignored by Caserio. As a result, you can spend the next five years defending Caserio and Easterby and since you don't know that percentage, you will be whistling in the wind.

Bottom line is everything is on Caserio. Anybody from Jack to the janitor can give advice. They're all Caserio decisions.

So, the first major decision this clown made was to hire a clown coach that couldn't last more than a year and now you want to give this guy even more rope? Fine by me, but quit acting like this guy hung the moon when he couldn't even hold Rick Smith's jock strap up to this point. You keep referring to some master plan. There is no plan in this world, or any other world where David Cully and Josh McCown make any sense. The plan is that the Preacher has a lot more sway than you'll ever admit. This franchise will continue to be a dumpster fire for years to come and you'll all in on it apparently.

Maybe Jack (Easterby) would also like to hire a "Nun" for the sidelines so when they make a mistake she can come up and demand they hold their hand out so she can whack their knuckles.

Jack's also having a tough time hiring a team Priest....seems candy works better on the youngsters but not so well with the grown men.

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Jack lead the Texans to the Super Bowl.

Wait I thought everyone around here was saying Culley was just a bridge coach and would last 2 years at most? So now I’m confused are we saying Culley was suppose to be the permanent coach and Caserio screwed up the hire?

When has this franchise not been a dumpster fire?

I liked Rick, but Bob didn’t even let him sit in on HC interviews. So… not a lot to compare the two on. One guy is the GM of an NFL franchise & the other was the head scout. Director of player personnel with a fancy title

Did they forget to ask him a question?
Probably want to spend more time to get a better sense of the personality and philosophical fit. I'm sure there is lots to discuss (strength/conditioning, nutrition, coaching staff, etc.)

I don't think he hung the moon.

I think you're off base if you think a 65 yr old 1st time HC was Caserio's long term plan.

One is a LDE and the other 2 are RDE. Martin is a package player. The fact that they all said the same thing on the way out the door says alot. Whitney ,who was the poster child of Jack, Bob, and culture, spoke about the organization from the tippity top. Andre, JJ, all points to how bad and the disconnect from the fans. C'mon, Jack running the show. He has entrusted himself even above Caserio and candidates are asking about Jack from the stories and write ups. If you don't believe that, then that's you.

this isn’t true at all.

Gannon looks like a long term hire.

Thoughts?

Love Munch and some of the other assistants.
His defense wasn't outstanding as the Eagles DC, but then again, I couldn't wait to see Vrabrel out the door in his one DC year. Look where the tacks are now.

I would be excited for the future if Gannon is as impressive as some of the media make him out to be.

Caserios decisions are not always good ones from an outside perspective, but I do think the power structure with a strong GM is the way forward for now. It at least feels like there is an adult in the room.

Gannon went to Louisville, not John Carroll.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Gannon played collegiate as a defensive back at Louisville in 2002 before sustaining a career-ending hip injury and transitioning to coaching as a student assistant.

Maybe if RS was better at his job Bob would've let him sit in on interviews.

Wasn’t his job, that’s my point. Even though he & Nick share the same title, Bob never thought of Rick as a General Manager. More of a director of player personnel

Apparently Jonathan Gannon has been knocking it out of the park in his HC interviews. Here’s a bit of what he has to say about his defensive philosophy and Mike Zimmer’s impact in particular on his style:

“The main thing, though, when I got here, I didn't drop a book on the table and say, ‘Hey, this is what we're running,’” Gannon said. “If you actually ask the head coach (Nick Sirianni), when we first talked about this when he interviewed me, it was, ‘Hey, what scheme are you going to run?’ I said, ‘I don't have a scheme.’ And I believe that you have to be adaptable.

“But the first thing is we've got to figure out what our players can do, and then we've got to put them in those situations as much as possible to utilize their strengths. The main thing for us is it's not what we play, it's how we play.””

ALERT...ALERT....Danger Will Robinson... DANGER

Remember we want an identity. We've had 6 years of versatility & game plan offenses. We want to direct & dictate, not counter & react.

Don’t you want to use a 1st round pick on a player and try them at 3 different positions in training camp before ultimately playing them at an entirely different position in the regular season for old times sake?!

True. I always thought of Bob McNair as a quiet low-profile Jerry Jones.

The Jerrys (Jones and Richardson) and Papa McNair were rumored to be the tight Southern gentleman NFL trio if I am recalling correctly, so Mc Nair being influenced Jerrah isn't surprising.

Has everyone forgotten Cal's stature in decision-making?
How many decisions do you think Cal will say no to Caserio on?

Do you think if Cal wanted to hire Gannon that Cal would say no?

I'm sure Cal has a budget for asst coach hires.
The Preacher Man, The File Clerk and The Game Boy convene in the Kirby board room. The preacher and the clerk tell gamer that they have found their guy to be HC, Josh McCown. Game Boy ask, how much is this going to cost? Preacher and clerk tell gamer it's only a 5 year $40MM guaranteed contract but don't worry it's not part of salary cap. So, Game Boy says, oh, OK, sign him up.

Yes, the Texans did overpay but that is because the The Preacher Man and Josh are very good friends.
