JJ Watt "he is just awesome" Thread

At least one of those was justified, regrettably.
Not that I saw. The rule is no impact to the knees and no contact above the shoulders. I replayed both licks at least three times. The initial contact for both tackles occurred in the thigh area.

Not to mention on one of them the oline was blocking him in the back to the ground that's why he was so low on that one hit.

I generally wait to see if any fines were handed out. Refs making these calls during a game... bound to be a few boo-boos. I'm told they get graded & there jobs depend on that ranking.

If the NFL levies a fine, that tells me it was in fact "illegal" if there is no fine, ref made a mistake.

I haven't read the entire thread. Has anyone pointed out KJ putting his hand behind his head like Dion as Watt crosses the goal line? That's funny.

You know what's gonna happen, right? Ebola in Dallas. Texans and Cowboys play this week. JJ Watt is gonna get ebola. Boom. Career over. SMFH. **** our luck.

Cast your mind back to training camp and me biotching about JJ taking up time on the Juggs with WR's, TE's and RB's waiting on him. I was an idiot. I have a special recipe for crow if anyone's interested.

Has anyone mentioned the great effort by KJ getting the big block? Great timing on a corner blitz and situational football. KJ did a great job.

JJ gave hime props in an interview after the game on his blocking and said he'd never would have made it if it weren't for KJ

It was actually fortunate because KJ came on a corner blitz and was immediately able to block Manuel.

No.
Ebola is going to come into contact with J.J.Watt's sweat resulting in the complete eradication of the disease in all of Texas plus adjoining parts of Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Ebola will also stay the hell out of Wisconsin, just to be safe.

True enough, but at least 1 time the ball had been released long enough before that JJ could have held up.

Most ridiculous comments of the week came from a member Kastion, from the Cowboys board
Watt will get destroyed if he moves inside to face frederick and martin.
Also go read the Texans board, they are saying things like "Watts gotta play the run". The dude isnt the greatest at every facet of the game. Hes a good pass rusher.

So he's saying Watt will get destroyed if he lineup against those two ROOKIES and that Watt is one dimensional and only is a good pass rusher. Delusional Cowboys Fan at its purest.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL
After Monday's game Watt has more QB hits than 13 teams.

Watt's on a pace for 64 QB hits. Led league with 46 and 43 last 2 seasons. No other player has as many as 40 since 2000.

Most of the hardcore and knowledgeable Cowboy fans I know and respect their opinion know what JJ is capable of. But that opinion reeks of somebody who just watches the Cowboys on Sundays and then forgets about the rest of the NFL. These are the same fans who usually hate on Tony Romo for bobbling a FG against the Seahawks years ago or other various reasons that do not make a lot of sense and have a general idea that the Cowboys will contend no matter who the coaches are or the players on the roster. Unfortunately the population of one group is much more significant than the other.

Texans' J.J. Watt fined $16,537 for roughing the passer vs. Bills

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has been fined $16,537 by the NFL for roughing the passer in the team's game against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain.

Watt received the fine because he was penalized twice for hitting Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel too low. He hit Manuel nine times during the game.

Cyril Richardson was fined $8268 for cheap shot on Watt...

Can't believe they even FLAGGED Watt on those ***** ass plays, but I can believe they fined him.

SMH. This league sucks. Watt and the Texans are the only thing truly holding my interest.

He can afford it.

That's really not the point. I really have a problem with ANY business that fines it's employees. It's like expos factos laws.

The monetary agreement has been breached unilaterally. I really don't want to go down that path. Suspension perhaps, but not continued play at reduced compensation.

Imagine your employer unilaterally decides that their light bill should be distributed among it's employees and just deducts it from your next check. Or that the compensatory sick day you were due will be charged back to you because the Boss was having a bad hair day.

I'll have to go back & watch the second one. The first one, I didn't think it deserved a fine, unless they are saying he had time to pull up, which is arguable.

JJ Watt came to my daughter High School football game last night. It was Dawson vs. Pearland and since he lives in Pearland he came to our game. He's been to several Dawson home games over the last few years. He stood under the north end zone goal post, we figured so as not to takes sides, and stayed til the end. The tv cameras were on him several times and the fans and kids loved it.

Thanks JJ for coming to our game last night, you made a bunch of kids and their parents happy.

From the NFL Rule Book [Protection of Passer]:
*No defensive player may run into a passer of a legal forward pass after the ball has left his hand (15 yards). The Referee must determine whether opponent had a reasonable chance to stop his momentum during an attempt to block the pass or tackle the passer while he still had the ball.

*No defensive player who has an unrestricted path to the quarterback may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction.

The latter rule is what got JJ fined.

Nice rant...

...other than the fact the fines are agreed to by the players.

From the NFL Rule Book [Protection of Passer]:

The latter rule is what got JJ fined.

Yes that is the rule they justified the fines under. But JJ hit him on the thigh pad both times and so should not have drawn a flag for either.

Unless that ref decided that "around the knees" means anywhere below the navel.
