Jets/Texans preseason opener - GAMEDAY THREAD

The one play they analyze is Mario getting chopped at the knees, yet I didn't really get what Chris Carter was trying to say. Said We're trying to get Mario involved then made some weird transition to Manning being a good safety...

Do the corners seem to be slowing down the QB or is the DLine getting to the QB? Seems like the latter but I can't see much of the DBs unless they show play again and focus on them.

Our d-linemen and LBs are shedding blockers. Braman #50 tossed his guy aside like a loaf of bread, but was then held or he would've had a QB sack. Ref saw it and flagged the blocker for the blatant hold.

Our rushers are employing the sort of hand-fighting and blocker-shedding techniques that we've been seeing out of training camp reports.

This defense is built for what Wade does best, and they are taking to it like gnats to sugar water.

I think they were saying that having Mario coming off the edge is going to force the QB to get rid of the ball earlier, leaving it up to our DBs to make tackles to force short gains.

That's what I thought, just weird that they picked a play that Mario was a non-factor. I guess that's beside the point though, Mario being there is the cause.

It's our twos against their twos; sounds like a fair fight to me
and OBTW, that's our FOURTH string RB. And since Studdard is gone at least one third string guard

Our ones did pretty good holding the Jets to 3 for the first qtr too considering that Cushing and Joseph were out...but so were some of their guys.

But still it was a good showing and I don't remember seeing this much pressure last season ever.

Xavier Adibi loves Wade Phillips! Adibi just recorded his 2nd sack, giving them 4 sacks in first half. They had 8 in the 2010 preseason.

Does Rex Ryan like feet?

Guards Kasey Studdard and Antoine Caldwell have ankle injuries and are questionable to return. I don't think either will.

I didn't know about Fitz contract situation...

Would be cool if the Cards couldn't get a deal done and the Texans tried to pull a Jets...Fitz and Dre....I mean it's a dream scenario but hey, so was Nnamdi and Revis and it almost happened.

Anyone else still concerned with the special teams return & coverage?

I know everyone likes to blame Slaton, and now Demps, for the return woes... But I see no blocking what so ever.

On the other side, it's a shame to see Hartmann boom these kicks to the back of the end zone, to only have the coverage team allow the jets to bring it back to the 30.

Almost...the Jets have been with 2s and 3s for most the game on their OL

I think the most important decision Leinart and/or his agent made was NOT going to the Seahawks.

He has got this offense figured out. He is sincerely TRYING to be a good QB.

His whole body language and his swagger out there is something I don't remember seeing out of him after he left USC. He's a little slow rolling out of the pocket when he scrambles. But, he seems to be making good decisions and placing the ball where it should be (and with "touch" too).

I'm surprised. He's been the biggest surprise on offense, IMO.

On the defense, for me, it's been the overall defense itself. It looks like plays are actually PLANNED and used--and used CORRECTLY--in certain situations where it makes sense. It looks like the d-coord knows what the hell he's doing out there. And it LOOKS like the players are confident in what they're asked to do. So much confidence out there. Adibi sacked the QB. JJ Watt got to the QB. Nading almost decapitated the Jets QB. QB pressure is everywhere all of a sudden. It's maddening. It's stoopid. It's refreshing.

I posted the whole rex ryan sequence on the random thought thread ..

I can't rep yall right now, but f'ing hilarious

Drinking with the "dad"... enjoying the game... Schaub seemed to have timing issues and spot of pass, but overall... impressed with our start... not bad :)

was... was...
was... that good coverage??

AND the ref didn't call holding on a Jets o-lineman who shoved our guy as he was getting near the QB by the sideline.

So, "Yeah! We done real good right there."

This is so refreshing.

It's been soooo long, I didn't recognize good coverage in a Texans uni

He looks like an excellent 3rd down back. Sadly, KJ looks like he doesn't belong.

Kick returns have been the most disappointing. At least with the new rule our sucking won't be so blatant this year.

Terrible timing on that run back.

The returner ran up behind his blockers then stopped, don't you have to wind up so you hit the line at speed so you have a chance to pop a tackle and break free?

Hill should have taken that guy out. This is his main chance to make the squad and he's blowing it.
