Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

I have a feeling O'Brien wants to go even more run heavy on offense this year to set up Watson even better for his already deadly play action game. That's my feeling based on the type of interior linemen they've signed in FA.
I think they're going to sign a running back and/or draft one earlier than a lot of people expect.

Do you think they will draft a RB in the 3rd? Or give old man AP a shot.

Now Blue was impressive, so will they give him a 2 year contract?

I think Blue improved last year and deserves to be re-signed. Especially considering his special teams value.

The fact that they haven't re-signed him already gives me pause though. But he could be waiting to see if he has a chance for a better opportunity on a new team.

I'm on the fence with AP in regards to whether I would want to sign him, and whether I think the Texans would possibly sign him.

Ndamukong Suh Fuels Seahawks Signing Reports With Latest Comments
Scott Rogust15 MAR 2018

Could Ndamukong Suh, who was released from his massive contract by the Miami Dolphins, be headed to the Pacific Northwest?

After free agency kicked off with a bang earlier this week, with star players signing on with new teams, Suh is making the rounds, but has made it clear he's got interest in the Seahawks.

Suh told insider Jordan Schultz he had a "great phone conversation" with Seattle head coach Pete Carroll, and that there is interest between both sides.

This is interesting: The #Texans hosted a private workout yesterday for #Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, source said. The team wants to be prepared for any and all scenarios on draft week… even the unlikely such as Jackson being available for them.

11:45 AM - Mar 22, 2018

Hearing the #Rams and #Titans are real players for Ndamukong Suh. The #Rams will likely need to release Tavon Austin to free up some cap space. Suh lives in Portland. #Titans are also putting together a package.

Hurns update...imo, Texansarebetter landing than all these other suitors, but hey I am biased

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/22/report-browns-ravens-pursuing-allen-hurns/
It all depends on how Hurns views himself. If he thinks he’s a bonafide, starting outside receiver and wants to eventually get paid like one... Texans may not be ideal. Nuk & Fuller has those spots locked down. Now of course, the pessimistic fan will say Fuller can’t play a full season. But Hurns may not want to take that gamble. Is he even good enough to supplant Ellington as the third receiver? Would he even be open to taking that role?

Are the Texans even looking for additional receivers? They already have Nuk, Fuller, Ellington & Brax. They have historically only carried four receivers.

Ellinton and Braxton are not (rephrase imo should not be) guaranteed any sort role or guaranteed spot...In addition, 4WRs in a low number to regular carry on the 53 man roster with all the multi WR sets in modern football. Assuming that Anderson and Ervin are healthy and make the squad there are make do as slot guys.

Also, really this a really top heavy position with NUK and Fuller...They could use help here just other things may turn into bigger priorities.

My post goes back the report that the Texans had contacted Hurns when released.

Biggest problem with Texans WR room is not ability as much as durability. Outside of Hopkins the other 3 have all had issues staying healthy. Adding Hurns would bring his own durability concerns but at least we improve our odds of having a talented WR healthy opposite Hopkins!

Per Ian Rapaport’s twitter the Patriots have re-signed OT LaAdrian Waddle to a one-year contract.

Looks like Cam Fleming has set his price too high. Maybe the Texans can grab him just prior to the draft when his agent lowers his price before teams draft to fill the need?

Ellington a get by level slot and Miller has flashed in a game or two at best...Fuller primarily I agree about injury... I have about zero interest in seeing this group w/o Hopkins in the line-up.

He underwent sports hernia surgery in Jan 2016. The rest of this season, he suffered with thigh, neck and shoulder problems. Then he suffered a severe hamstring tear in week 12 and was not able to play the rest of the year. Finally, in 2017, he missed Weeks 11-16 with an severe high ankle sprain.

Or maybe we should just over pay for a position of need to protect our franchise QB when we have the cash?

I would take the chance and the risk. This would be a much needed temporary plug in our porous offensive line from last year. We aren’t in a position to be picky and we are needy. So yes, we are desperate.

Signing him to a bad contract wouldn’t be as bad as the risks we took on the last several years in QBs. Especially the last one. A bad LT contract doesn’t set your team back the same number of years as a bad QB contract.

I wouldn’t mind overpaying for Fleming... but there are different degrees of overpaying.

I’d give him a short term deal say. 2 years 12-14 million. If that doesn’t get it done well dang gotta hope for a rookie.

Texans host QB Lamar Jackson for private workout
Jeremy Bergman
NFL.com

Having Deshaun Watson in the building has not precluded the Houston Texans from exploring any and all options at quarterback.

Houston hosted Louisville QB Lamar Jackson for a private workout on Wednesday, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The Texans worked out Jackson solely as a quarterback.

Rapoport added that the Texans want to "be prepared" for unforeseen scenarios on draft week, like Jackson being available for them at the 68th pick, Houston's first selection in this year's draft.

Houston's first- and second-round picks this season were both shipped in separate trades last year to the Cleveland Browns. In return, Houston reaped, among other things, Cleveland's second first-round pick in 2017, which was used to draft Deshaun Watson.

In light of Watson's dynamite, albeit abbreviated rookie season, the Texans are not expected to take a starting-caliber quarterback in the 2018 draft, but by working out the dual-threat Jackson, their staff is its their due diligence on one of the draft's top prospects.

Texans quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan told NFL.com recently that it's "absolutely" important for him to get a live look at QBs who haven't worked extensively under center in college, like Jackson, emphasizing the ability to "see them drop a full drop."

"You understand that there's still gonna be some work to it," Ryan explained. "But you get enough of a feel for, yeah, we're going to be able to get this done. This guy's going to be able to do this."

In NFL.com's mock drafts, Bucky Brooks has Jackson going 29th to Houston's rival, the AFC South champion Jacksonville Jaguars; Charles Davis sends the Louisville star to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 17; and Chad Reuter has Jackson landing with the Arizona Cardinals at No. 15. Reuter does not see the Texans taking a quarterback with their four third- and fourth-round picks.

Louisville's pro day isn't for another week (March 29). Until then, the Texans, a team already set at the quarterback position for the foreseeable future, will have a head start on the other 31 clubs on evaluating the elusive signal-caller.

I honestly see us trading up into the 2nd to take a LT.

We have the ammo. The ability to now trade compensatory picks is huge for us this year.

We have quite a few picks. None that are high, but a decent number overall.

Hopefully we don't trade any future picks, but I would not be surprised to see the Texans try to use those 3rds and 6ths to get up into the 2nd. I could see a scenario where we move around and only end up taking five or six players in this draft.

Yup, I also could see us trading that seattle 2nd round pick we have next year to really trade up in the top of the 2nd. I would also like to keep the picks next year but if theres first round talent that fell you have to make that move to get there.

The Texans are not a RD2 player away from being that much better, especially at the cost of 2-3 players from RD3 and RD4. Again, I'd use the RD3-04 and RD4-03 as bait to possibly pick up 2-3 additional picks in RD3, RD4 and/or RD5.

If Texans could turn those 2 picks into:
4- RD3
2- RD4
1- RD5

Add this group of picks to the:
3- RD6
1- RD7

This could give Gaine and O'Brien an opportunity to find some decent help and depth from a draft that's missing 2 primary picks. Not to mention, the 2019 picks remain in tact.

Agreed. This draft has a lot of depth at our positions where we are sorely lacking. I would rather trade down and acquire more picks/more shots at putting quality depth on this roster than trading the picks we have to swing on a single prospect. Especially for an OL which is getting harder and harder to evaluate due to the rise of college spread offenses.

We need RBs, TEs, OTs, Secondary help and need some speed off the edge badly. If we trade up we’re screwing up.

This draft is full of RBs, TEs and secondary. Let the draft fall the way it does and improve these positions. Everyone is panicking about LT. There are ways to help protect the left side. Play calling, extra help from a TE or another OT. Don’t sacrifice an entire draft that can really help the overall depth and talent of this team for one position. STOP PANICKING!

Why the “need” for secondary help after bringing back JJo, then signing Mathieu and Colvin?

Sure, we could always use more bodies back there, but wouldn’t necessarily call it a need.

The same for RB. Would be good to have insurance for Foreman, but not really a necessity.

I do see the need for a TE & OT though.

Browns have signed EJ Gaines.

Unless we add Tre Boston (unlikely) it appears we will wait for the draft to add anyone else to the secondary.

Blue is gone and Foreman most likely will never be the same. Miller shouldn't be the starter. RB is a need.

Couldn't agree more and I would expect that at least one decent RB could be had in the draft or through the UDFA option (or from another team's practice squad maybe) but I wouldn't want to have to count on Miller and a rookie plus the ghost of Foreman alone. I'm thinking veteran FA in the value part of free agency.

So much talent being scooped up. We need to make another impact move. Is DT Jankins still available, add Eric Reid, still need a RB and backup QB

The draft is for building for the future. JJO is at the end of his career. I would be surprised if this wasn’t his last year. Kevin Johnson is injury prone and regressed significantly last year. Mathieu is coming off an injury and is only signed for one year. Hal is average at best at free safety and the is NO one behind him I want starting. It’s not a dire need but if there is quality talent available in that area we should jump on it.

RB has already been addressed.
