What is Watson's value in a trade?

There is no time like the present.
Watson to Miami, lets gets our #1's back.
Watt to highest bidder.
Tunsil to highest bidder.
Clean office from top to bottom.
Hire General Manager.
Allow General Manager to build a new office.
Sad to say but I think it’s impossible that OB can get 1’s. Some gms would probably wait until he blows a gasket and ships Watson for a 2 and 4, plus take on someone’s huge contract off their books.

If OB decided to send Watson to Miami for the #4 pick, that means he could essentially be trading Watson for QB, Justin Herbert of Oregon. OB would never make that move unless he thinks Big Ben 2.0 is there for the taking, which would only happen with Miami on the clock.

If OB decided to roll with McCarron as QB1 for 2020, then his focus could shift to DT, Derrick Brown of Auburn. Many consider Brown the most freakishly talented DT to come along in a long time. This decision could give OB the luxury of negotiating -now- for Miami's #4 pick and.....good lord, I can't believe I'm about to type this out......be a better position to receive a healthy return for Watson's services.

Herbert or Brown at #4 would be a solid return depending on the additional picks to go along with the move.
To clarify 1.4 belongs to NYG and Miami's 1.5 1.18 (Bears) 1.26 (Texans)but I get your point. #6 taking Herbert off the board in a trade up ahead of 1.5 and in doing so possibly beating out a Dolphins trade up. If O'Brien wishes to move Watson he should be hoping the big three--well 2 1/2 (Herbert) need to go before Miami can pick. I believe that Dashaun is greater now and at least two seasons than Tu'a Tag & makes Watson's value higher. Now does Miami thinks so? If going for NYG 1.4 I have to get 2.36 also at minimum. I am not looking to get a QB by trading Dashaun. If Wash takes Tu'a Tag I am on phone asking about Haskins. For my scenario it would help if Derrick Carr remains in Las Vegas or quickly goes to another team.

Yes, if we did trade to NYG 1.4 becomes an immediate trade bait. The other problem in getting 1.4 it allows Miami to pursue Detroit's 1.3 as Lions could get CB Okudah and possibly Chase Young at 5 or 6.

I always consider what we give up to get when evaluating a player. I don't think IDL is right now need for us as we are set with what we have. Discussing Derrick Brown:better than Kinslaw but you can get him much later than DB if that position is your plan; again for me it is not. OTH if you want a bull crushing, pass rusher from everywhere (think JJ Watt) I'd go with AJ Epenesa who is mocked first round but from 18sh to end of round. I saw one recent mock with him around #36 IIRC. I want another Watt over D Brown on this roster.

My priorities would be:
I.Washington for 1.2 + Haskins + TWilliams + 3.66 & 3.99(comp). Much of that as can.
II. Miami for 1.5 + 1.19 + 1.26 as this team in high pressure for a QB.
III. Raiders for 1.12 + 1.18 + OLB Maxx Crosby. I still want RB Josh Jacob but OLB better.

I can roll this season with McCarron.

Quite possibly but if I take my anger out of it, there has been with Watson no Hopkins "stuff" that is now being mentioned. Both Watson & Nuk want more $ but no rumors of "Hernandez" comments or the more than once disagreements between player and coach. Irwin's saying Hopkins having too much power in locker room should not apply to Dashaun as coach expects QB to have that sway IMO. So, I think O'Brien could patiently get a huge haul for Dashaun and LT Tunsil--if that becomes an option.

Best case scenario is O'Brien is relieved of all of his duties and an interim is put in charge to get this mess straightened out. No more deals from trader Bill.

Yes but there is no evidence of that scenario and daily it seems he is becoming more entrenched.

Man if it wasn’t clear enough, this present move should justify who has all the power. Cal had to know what was going on, and he backed his guy up. Cal has taken on his pops mentality of the inmates running the asylum. No way in hell will he back up these players over this coach and newly GM. Whoever goes against O’Brien quickly gets the boot. They don’t give two F’s on what they’ll receive in return.

Bill O'Brien is to GMs what Bill O'Brien is to HCs
To a less than capable GM, Watson is worth 2 first rounders.

to Bill O’Brien Watson is worth 2 third rounders and the best practice performance player on the practice squad. Likely a TE that was a 5 star cricket player in a college in Micronesia.

I did not like the trade but the situation is more complicated than just what we're reading here on the board. A lot of it is emotional which I get. Usually after games I try not to get on the board until I have calm down win or loss

Yes the situation is very sticky and disturbing. They can not continue to do business like this. Every year one of our best players have bounced with a bad taste in their mouth. At least they were able to repair it with Andre Johnson.

No more cryptic words from Deshaun Watson Recently?
Heard he's tweeting more lyrics:

why do I bother, when you're not the one for me?
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
No one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong?

No idea what that means though. He probably just likes the song.

Trade value for Watson? As far as BOB is concerned, a second round pick, swap fifth round picks, and a box of Scooby snacks...

Dolphins frantically trying to move up without giving up 1.5. Washington turned down an offer for #2 and word is Miami aggressively after Lions #3. I don't see it without number 5.
If Dolphins cannot move up and Burrows and T'ua Tag go 1-2 then IMO Watson's value skyrockets. Some are dropping Herbert and others have LA Chargers trading above Miami for him. I think we are starting to see the churn that I expected for draft day one.

So..does new contract increase trade value of Watson?

Just kidding.

It makes him completely untradeable thru 2022.

There is $75m+ in dead money in this year , $67m in dead money in 2021 and $51m in dead money for 2022 .... 2023 has almost $11m in dead money and $5.4m in 2024.

Its conceivable that they could eat that $11m in 2023 but not before that.

As for trade value - if the Texans don't want him for those last two years , why would another team ? A $64m reclamation project ? They'd be better off waiting for the Texans to cut him than pay those last two years ....

If he plays well , the team has no desire to trade him , if he plays average or worse .... No team is paying him $32m per for the final two.

Well I did say I was just kidding. However if you look at 2021 post June 1st trade You will see different numbers. I am aware that he has a no-trade contract but if Watson leads us to sub 6 win 2020 season he may want to go elsewhere. Just my opinion but sub-6 wins record indicate something went wrong with the wide receivers or more likely Dashaun is fed up with Obrien.

My 2 cents record will be 8-8 or better and Watson/Obrien will tango into 2021.

BOB will never construct an offense around DW4's strengths. How long it takes the ownership to figure this out is anyone's guess, but no reason it has to last 4 years.
Well he did go out and get two speedy receivers to offer multi options like DW had at Clemson. He brought in a young in his prime LT that made pro bowl with only one week practise. He spent a first and a second to bring in starting LG and RT. He sprang for stupid $ to keep a center that Watson was used to. He agreed to absorb a huge cap hit
For a RB that can run thru the middle like Hyde + average over 10 yards per catch which Hyde cannot even dream of. We don't know yet how this offense will come together. Other teams have lost to the Chiefs. But to say Bob will never construct an offense around Watson' s strengths rings hollow to me. Now if you want to say play calling under Bill's regime doesn't help #4 I'm right there with you.

Yep, it's going to be a long 4 yrs
I get your criticism of Watson - there is plenty you can be critical of, but isn't this a bit harsh? Throughout the league Watson is billed as a top5 QB right now - maybe that is way too high, but he should definetly be in the top 10. He has proven, that he has the desire to win and that he can come out big in big situations.

Now as every QB he needs help. And that is a problem here. BoB is making some questionable decisions both as a HC and a GM - and some of our most important and best players are pretty injury prone. So there is a good chance we won't be as good as we all hope - and if you are right about Watson he won't elevate us as much, as he would need to. But he is far from a desaster or lost cause, even for his loudest critics.

Getting a franchise QB ist the most difficult thing in football. The Texans never had one before Watson. Schaub came close, but he often disappeared in big situations. And with BoB at the helm, we trade away draft picks like crazy - and without picks you basically have no chance. Watson is our best and only hope at winning - and with that, the Texans are in a better positions than about 15-25 other teams.

So having a no trade clause does not mean player won't be traded which is the essence of the thread.
No one said it necessarily would or wouldn't happen though..

For those following along my post about the clause immediately followed someone's post giving reasons why it'd be unlikely that he'd be traded, and so a tacked on the no-trade comment, because it can also make it especially difficult.

Hope that helped..

Agreed the Texans will go as far as DW4 can take them.

I disagree with the pundits assessment of DW4's game.

6 games and counting, it's going to be a long 4 yrs.
