Week 9: Houston Texans @ New York Jets (Thursday Night Football)

Who do you think will win (Honest)

Defensively, both teams are built similarly. The back 7 will play about every snap of the game and the DL will rotate heavily (though Hunter/Anderson may play heavier snaps again due to injuries on interior DL shifting Autry more inside).

Which offense is better prepared to attack the other team’s defense? Really important game for Slowik to show why he was in the HC interview cycle last offseason.

And of course ST… Jets will have a new kicker. Texans will have reliable Kaimi. In a defensive battle like this appears it will be that may be the difference.

While the Jets have been struggling lately, they still have a more established roster and coaching staff compared to the Texans.
More established coaching staff? They have an interim head coach and recently switched playcallers..
Betting Trends: Recent betting trends and expert opinions favor the Jets to win this game.
Recent betting trends? The Jets have lost 5 in a row vs. the spread.
They’re favored b/c they’re at home and we just lost our #2 WR. That’s it.
They're favored because of a large fanbase that over bets them. The Jets were 1.5 point favorites at Pittsburgh. That's how out of touch their fanbase is.

Until the oline is somehow miraculously fixed, expect the Texans to struggle no matter who they are playing.

And because of that, I have no idea of what to expect from the Texans in any game until then. They should beat the Jets, but that doesn't mean anything really.

Because of our crappy, horrible totally junior high school level oline I worry about CJ's health as much as I do them winning.
I said somewhere else that Texans could be one concussion away from losing CJ for good a la Andrew Luck
Texans FO need to be raked over with hot coals for risking CJs health like this.

I understand the sentiment, but couldn't that be said for plenty of Qb's throughout the years in the NFL? Look at Tua for reference. I know we don't want to lose CJ or take time off of his career but that is also the inherent risk in playing pro football.

Any NFL player is only one play away from disaster, of course. I don't think that was TexanPhan's point. I think he was saying that management has not done enough to protect our franchise potential All-Pro quarterback.
Yes, Miami hasn't protect Tu 'a either.

Run the ball down their ******* throats tonight

The Texans have three RB’s and shouldn’t put the load on Mixon alone. For Slowick, don’t be afraid to mix up the RB’s and how you use them tonight. Get Ogunbowale and Taylor some 1st down carries or play actions and quick hit the TE or WR. Opposing defenses know that when Mixon is in, it’s a run play…..just change it up so the predictability is thrown out the window. Wear their arses down before you turn it over to Mixon to run the game out of reach.

Pierce is out with a groin injury tonight.

Missed the Pierce injury….might explain why they activated JJ Taylor to the active roster.

Thinking out loud once again….would it make any sense for Caserio to snatch RB- Frank Gore Jr off the Bills Practice Squad? It doesn’t look like he’s been called up to the active roster at anytime this season. Gore had a pretty solid pre-season and hasn’t had a chance to see if that would parlay into the regular season. I could see releasing Taylor and replacing him with Gore Jr.

I think it would be really interesting to see a breakdown of injury by stadium. Are you aware of any studies that show each stadium and the injuriy counts, and types of injuries? MetLife sucks per player comments, but it’s all anecdotal.

The Most Injury-Prone NFL Fields

6 min reaBetMGM @ Sep 24, 2024, 4:45 PM

Every NFL game is a battle, not just between teams but against the physical toll the sport takes on its players. From minor sprains to season-ending injuries, what happens on the field can drastically shift a team’s fortunes—and the bets tied to their success.
That’s why we wanted to analyze injury data from Pro Football Reference to see if we could gain any insight into the injuries the NFL has seen over the past five years.
In this study, we’ll highlight the fields that see the most and fewest injuries, explore trends by division and playing surface, and explain how these insights can help bettors make smarter, more responsible wagers.

The Most Injury-Prone NFL Fields

A-chart-showing-the-NFL-fields-that-see-the-most-injuries-per-game

Injuries are an inevitable part of professional sports. In a particularly physical sport like the NFL, that’s doubly true, but some stadiums seem to see more action in the trainer’s room than others. We analyzed data from the past five seasons to determine which NFL home fields had the highest number of injuries per game, offering valuable insights for fans, bettors, and teams alike.
THE REST OF THE STORY

I was quoting Gemini

And we know that football can be conducive to concussions and CTE. Should we stop the sport for fear of injury?
Nope, in fact we should go back to the 80's brand of football. But that doesn't mean I would ruin my favorite teams season playing on a crappy surface. You gotta learn from the past.

Plus this is an apples, oranges comparison.

So you wanna lose some key depth? Let's just cancel the game altogether and forfeit the game. Better yet, let's put some prisoners out on the field and have them get hurt as part of their penance LOL

I just edited my post…what’s your feedback?
JJ has been basically unsuccessful anywhere he went and didn't stand out much in college. At 5 ft 5 and 1/4 and 185 lb and a 40 speed of over 4.6, there's not much to like about him. I was just referring to a unrealistic hope that he could put us in favorable position on returns. I do not see him producing much as a running back other than to give the other guys a breather while he gets a yard or two.
Having been exposed to O scheme since 2003, he is a cheap option that should know which way to run if CJ hands him the ball. I will be surprised to see that and definitely he does not bring anything to the blocking scheme.

Who did the jets sign to kick? I missed it. Greg the leg has been 🗑️

It should be aired locally on over air channel
If you don’t live in Houston you won’t get it
I am trying to find something that confirms local TV will carry it. If someone actually knows please post as soon as possible. It appears it will be on Amazon Prime only.

Breaking:
I was exploring the idea and reading about the free trial Amazon Prime for 30 days then it's $14.99/mo. Lord behold in the smaller print it mentioned something about Twitch which is owned by Amazon. So i researched Twitch and found out that you can watch TNF for free. The disadvantage but not for me and whoever is that one can only watch it on a mobile device, tablet, and computer.
That sealed the deal. I already have Twitch and an account from long time ago. So I signed in on my laptop and sure enough it shows Twitch Prime Video on the schedule that it will stream the game tonight. AMAZING!
I wanted to share this with y all and others who may not live in Houston or NY local broadcast areas but want to watch the Texans tonight.

Exactly, I would rather forfeit the game than put any player of significance on that field.

Punters may play a significant role.

I'm sure you would.

Would be a fair question to ask. If you can tell a team to not play and they listen to that and not give any push back on it, then that tells me that they don't really care enough to fight to play. You tell a guy like Ray Lewis/Andre Johnson/etc etc of old to sit because of fear of possible injury he'd laugh in your face before kicking your arse.

Team like that would fold under pressure in the playoffs.

Don't forfeit, just go out there for first 3 possessions get up 21-0.

Get the D to go out there the following Jets possessions and get 3 pick 6s and rest your starters at 42-0.

Well yeah, wait for the Jets to injure all of their players first and then we can take our guys out.

The jets are beatable. Their situation is pretty chaotic in its self. They're the only team thats fired their head coach for a reason.

Jets will be missing 2 starting safeties, starting linebacker, their best starting line man and Rodgers buddy, starting slot receiver Allen Lazard is not playing.

You don’t want to be the team that all of sudden, Aaron Rodgers has that one last gasp of greatness against you. He’s going have a game like that this year.
