Week 9: Houston Texans @ New York Jets (Thursday Night Football)

Who do you think will win (Honest)

None of them technically. But it still gives the false impression that they are better than they actually are. Teams like Detroit, Baltimore, and KC are going to expose it.

This is from Reddit. It is a ranking of teams by the amount of wins the teams they have beaten have so far this season.

In the words of Parcells - “You are what your record says you are.”

Just remember to mute the volume when you watch the game, folks. Michaels and Colliinsworth make TNF unwatchable to me, but since the Texans are playing,I gotta go plan B.
Even more, I need to lower my volume. It isn't pretty when I am spitting food on my friends carpet; yelling and scaring their old yorkie to death

Houston Texans at New York Jets: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 9 game
Portrait of Jon Hoefling Jon Hoefling
USA TODAY

A very spooky matchup is on tap for Halloween this year as the New York Jets, a franchise that terrifies its fans regularly, faces a banged-up Houston Texans squad.

The Jets, fresh off a devastating last-second loss to the New England Patriots, came into the season hopeful that they might dethrone the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East. Through eight games, it's clear that is not going to happen. Despite a healthy Aaron Rodgers, as well as the addition of Davante Adams, the Jets have stumbled to a 2-6 record, last place in their division. They've lost five straight games and their season is all but over before we've reached the midway point.

While their matchup against a 6-2 Texans team may seem like another sure-fire defeat, the Texans are a bit banged up heading into this matchup. Week 8 saw the team lose star receiver Stefon Diggs to a season-ending ACL tear. The Texans' passing attack will lean on Tank Dell now, who entered the season as the team's No. 3 receiver.

Here are our experts' predictions for this Thursday Night Football showdown.

Is that why the Jets are favored to beat houston?
Gemini says,

The Jets are favored over the Texans for several reasons:

  • Recent Form: While the Jets have been struggling lately, they still have a more established roster and coaching staff compared to the Texans.
  • Home Field Advantage:The Jets are playing at home, which can be a significant factor in NFL games.

  • Texans Injuries: The Texans have lost key players like Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins to injuries, weakening their offensive potential.

  • Betting Trends: Recent betting trends and expert opinions favor the Jets to win this game.
However, it's important to remember that anything can happen in the NFL, and the Texans have shown they can compete with better teams this season.

Lol what.... you want to sit players now because there's a chance of injury? Might as well go ahead and bench the entire starting unit then. Maybe throw them in with bubble wrap instead?? And why stop at this game? Injuries could happen in any game, so why not do the same for every week here on out?
Apparently you weren't a member of this MB last yr when the turf almost wrecked the Texans season. I would have no issues at all sitting Stroud/WA/Hunter/Stingley/Lassiter etc... this game. No need to go through that again. In fact all teams should do this until the NFL gets the issues fixed.

I didn't see the segment with The Hoodie. But if the Jets pass rush is out of control, there are multiple ways to take advantage. Draw plays, or just running the ball on an undisciplined front. Screens, be it RB, TE, or WR. If CJ sees a play to be made, he'll take it. I just don't want Slowik to make that a staple of the offense when there are safer ways to attack a front like the Jets have.

This is true. He's had less time in the pocket, and that makes it more difficult to see the entire field. Or even attempt to see the entire field. I don't think Stroud needs perfect protection. But he needs much better than he is receiving.
He also needs Nico back.

Except they just replaced that turf recently. Was it before the 23 season maybe? I can't remember. But I'm with you. This is the one field that worries the hell out of me. I'm even more worried if the field is going to be wet. And BTW - I know the sample size is very small, but CJ has totally sucked in rainy conditions. Mixon is the only way they stay close in a game like that. He may get 30 carries. Assuming he also doesn't get hurt.

If it's raining/wet, give me Jets 19, Texans 16 in this one. They keep it close with the ground game, but in the end...don't have enough in the pass game when needed.

Ok who is talking about 50's and rain? I just looked up the forecast for that general area and this is what I get. For this late this is really warm. This is directly from the local National Weather Service office.

Someone is looking in the old Farmer's Almanac for their weather!

Thursday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.
Thursday Night
A 20 percent chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Based on the nature of the NFL where often one game decides playoff seeding and thus playoff matchups, sitting players is a very idiotic move. Injuries can happen in any game. Should we sit all key players until the playoffs so they don't get hurt?

I dont want a repeat of last yr on that crap field. That game almost cost the Texans a playoff spot.

Nico got hurt a few weeks ago. I'd hate to play him again because he might get hurt again, pull a repeat of that moment in time

Seems senseless? That's because it is. Same thing with saying that about the Jets game.

This game plan is simple. When teams have 30+ rushes vs the Jets defense, they win the game. When teams rush less than 30 times, they lose. While the Jets defense doesn't have a terrible yards/carry number against the run (4.2), they just can't seem to get off the field. The Jets play smaller d-linemen who are geared to rush the passer. Opposing offenses have countered that by calling more running plays (242) than passes (224). Don't play into the Jets strength (pass defense). Run the ball down their throats.

I’d love that game plan and I agree leaning on Mixon is the way to go given the injuries at WR.

But I am concerned with giving Mixon another heavy workload on a short week. The guy is getting 25-30 touches every game he plays! Hopefully Dare can soak up some touches since Pierce is out again.

There's a problem with the field at MetLife good chance we're loosing someone tomorrow night

I've been saying all season that you can't judge a team by there early record. It's been that way for several years now. It's difficult to come back from 2-6 but it's happened. If not for firing their HC I'd have no problem believing the Jets could finish 7-2 or 6-3.
I have no problem with the Jets winning out the remainder of the season after they lose to us tomorrow night..

I was kind of disappointed we weren't blowing teams out this season. On the flip side, I can say this team has been learning and finding ways to win. I think a lot of serious contenders go through this phase at some point. It’s usually, teams with (1-6 wins are rebuilding), (7-10 wins are learning how to win), which is why everyone was surprised last season. 11+ wins where I think the Texans will finish makes me feel optimistic about this game. I have high hopes this offense will click at the right time and will be a team hard to beat.

Lol... Some of you are negative as Shiite.... You could have won every game by 20 and would still find fault with the team somehow, some way
If we didn’t have an OL that’s eventually going to shell shock our quarterback, my attitude would be different.

You cannot find a fault if there is not one. Celebrate the w then discuss the good and bad... unless you are married to her..

Trust. The negative nancies of the forum will always find fault. Even if it's one false start in a game that is won by five TDs. Or one delay of game.

Let's bench everyone and catch a loss tomorrow night boys!!! All good, what's losing one game and making the division a touch tighter???

I can’t believe some here are even suggesting that we hold players out in the 9th game of season. How do you think that would look? It would instantly make AR tapping out yesterday’s news.

I'm sure if the Texans lose this game (Which I expect them to lose) the world will come crashing down according to you.
I’m sure you’ve the read the same refrain repeated over and over ad nausem around here.

“It’s not just they lost, but HOW they lost!”

I can handle a loss just fine. Not sure with some of you knee-jerkers in here.

CJ is also terrible on the road.

Difference is I think the MetLife Stadium field is conducive to injuries. Has nothing to do with the NYJ team.

I'm certainly not a knee jerker.

Dating back to last season, he hasn’t been that good. The offensive line last season wasn’t this atrocious either.
I hear ya. 2 bad away games his rookie season but looked decent or good in the other 5. 8 total tds in 7 games.

His worst away games last season.
Jets
Carolina
0 tds - 0 ints

Away games where he looked average
Ravens (1st game)
Atlanta
1 td - 0 ints

Away games Cj looked good
Jacksonville
Bengals
Colts
7 tds - 1 int

If Stroud can get just little bit of time to hit Dell, Metchie, and Huchinson, and Mixon can run the ball a little bit, they can win it with the way the defense is playing. But if Kenyon is playing LG, Stroud is gonna have a rough night.

I don't know that its "inexplicable". The long and short of it is, Rodgers is no longer capable of elevating a team & teams don't respect his/their ability to pass the ball. Yeah the arm is still live & his numbers don't look atrocious but anyone whose watched them this year can see that he's not that guy anymore & he can't move back there. You add in a bad o-line, **** playcalling/coaching & that pretty much tells the tale. He's done & can't admit to himself that he is.
I’m afraid Rogers is going to carve us up with all of the short dinks…
