Seems to be no rhythm out of Stroud this season I agree. I understand the protection is a big reason for it. They’ve gotta get him going and I think they attempted to with the pass heavy start this week. But the play calls aren’t working and neither is the execution.

Time to take this back to the 1990s and run it down their throats. Let CJ pass only when conditions are ripe for success. Keep his attempts and his hits taken down. Shorten the game by running the ball and playing good defense.. and not turning the ball over!
If we're not running the ball well, then what? I think the trick is to purposely move the pocket 50 to 60% of the time or at least as much as it is working. I also think running a hurry up offense would work to our teams advantage! I am likely wrong but so far other approaches aren't quite getting it done. Joe Mixon has ran the ball well for the most part but a lot of that has come against teams that have struggled to defend against the running game. I am not saying eliminate the running game all together but if teams are going to focus on stopping the running game, especially the proficiency of Joe Mixon, then we have to figure out how to attack opposing defenses in other ways. We may not be able to consistently run on first and second downs only to have to face third and longs. I think a healthy Nico will have a huge impact. Him and CJ have great chemistry and when flushed from the pocket Nico affords CJ the luxury of finding him when all else breaks down. I expect our offense to greatly improve just with the return of Nico alone! A win against a very good and focused Detroit Lions team could be a huge boost for our Texans! Go Texans!

Because of the actual pressure and now perceived pressure, his mechanics are inconsistent. Too often, he is throwing off balance, not stepping into his throws and leading to his inaccuracy. Also, the play calling isn't helping him. I would love to see the percentage of passes that are 3, 5 and 7 step drop backs. I'm not seeing too many plays where he has to get the ball out quickly. In fact, with all of these tight formations, I can't recall the last time I saw a slant.
Agreed

The last time you saw a slant Nico and Diggs were playing.

I may have underestimated the impact Nico may/will have on the offense. A little. But when he was playing, Diggs was taking some attention from the opposing defensive backfield. Dell is not having near the impact this year as last year. Schultz isn't contributing much and every time the ball does go to him I worry about him mishandling the pass and tipping the ball into the air for the defense or fumbling. To compound all of those issues and the others I already mentioned (I saw a headline this morning which called the Texans offensive line as "nonfunctional"), the Texans are committing penalties on offense at a shocking rate. Other than Mixon, the offense has been inept at achieving and maintaining any type of momentum. The Jets game perfectly demonstrated what this Texans offense has been like all season. Now it got national attention and maybe that's a good thing. Maybe that will spur Caserio to do something, anything to change the course of this season. IMO they have a deceptive record and all those "ugly wins" may be turning into ugly loses. There was certainly nothing pretty about the Jets game.

Which is ironic. They are staying in more but are not great blockers. In fact, I think Woods might be a better blocker than any of the TEs on the roster.
True, Saubert was very underrated in this dept last yr. They really dont have a blocking TE this yr.

Teagan Q is back. I don’t know enough to say he is a better blocker thanSaubert, but he’s easily better than Schultz. Stover isn’t bad and getting better, but isn’t What I’d call a plus blocker.

Even the sky above Houston is crying over the loss to the Jets.

Weather man calls it precipitation... but... its tears.... even the clouds above Houston are humiliated to tears... or... the clouds are laughing themselves to tears... either way

.
Tears.

BS

Bob McNair may have never let the Texans draft Mixon, but after his history in the NFL he wouldn't have had a problem with signing Mixon as a FA, or trading for Joe Mixon.
How many guys like Mixon, with his background were on the Texans during Bob's tenure?

It took BOB dying and Janice having a stroke for the Texans to be on a level playing field.
