Week 9: Houston Texans @ New York Jets (Thursday Night Football)

Who do you think will win (Honest)

Belichick on Mcafee’s podcast noted how the Jets pass rushers were leaving wide open rush lanes for the QB to scramble on. Maye had 46 yards rushing through 2 quarters and Brisset had a key 14 yard scramble on a 3rd down.

I think this is going to be the key. CJ can extend plays with his legs and the Jets showed containment is a weakness of their defense. He might have to run more than usual for us to win this game. Whatever it takes :gotexans1

The shrewdest move Demeco could make in this situation would be to sit CJ and
start Mills for the Jets game.

Lol what.... you want to sit players now because there's a chance of injury? Might as well go ahead and bench the entire starting unit then. Maybe throw them in with bubble wrap instead?? And why stop at this game? Injuries could happen in any game, so why not do the same for every week here on out?

Where you been Deadpond, what's happen' ?
My comment about sitting CJ was mostly tounge-in-cheek so I was surprised so many took the bait ? Oh and CJ won't be able to play tomorrow night in New Jersey is because he's got to be back in Cal for his favorite cousins wedding - got it now ?

Eh, doubt your comment was tongue in cheek, just as this one is loaded with sarcasm intending to get me to rage post, but it won't happen. Have a great Wednesday!!

They need to get better with that RB rotation & getting production out of the other guys. Mixon should get the Lions share... I don't mind running him into the ground, but it's a long season & I want to make sure he's good to go in February.
I agree, it's really the only way to ensure we have Mixon healthy at the right times. I think they do a good job of getting Ogunbowale in on third downs. I felt like they mixed Pierce in better in New England than they have all season. The last two games he has 3 carries and like 6 yards rushing. Have to find somethings he can do to help us.

As much as I respect the play of Q williams..we have some monsters on that side of the ball too. Their line may be better but it won't matter with our Dline. Rodgers is going to have to manipulate the pocket and make throws that are off schedule. The corners have played well and how can you not like Pitre's game? Granted I'm a Baylor fan so I have a bias. I say all that to say this. We are going to be fine. Go to New York, keep their season miserable, and take their candy!

Look this is what we’re going do

Cj’s coming to your house, I want you to know this Jets, we’re coming to your house, You know what, we’re not even knocking. We’re opening your door, Cjs not taking off his shoes either and I hope they’re muddy. Our qb going sit on your couch and kick his feet up on your coffee table, now what?

Side note: Jets gave a concussion last game to the opposing team qb in Drake Maye. If that’s not a wake up call to bench green this game, idk what to say..

You made me remember the Dave Chappelle skit where Rick James comes over to Eddie Murphy’s house and starts grinding his muddy boots into Eddie’s new couch and the Murphy brothers had to beat his arse…..too funny. Thank you DC for making me laugh out loud.

This game plan is simple. When teams have 30+ rushes vs the Jets defense, they win the game. When teams rush less than 30 times, they lose. While the Jets defense doesn't have a terrible yards/carry number against the run (4.2), they just can't seem to get off the field. The Jets play smaller d-linemen who are geared to rush the passer. Opposing offenses have countered that by calling more running plays (242) than passes (224). Don't play into the Jets strength (pass defense). Run the ball down their throats.

Do you think it has something to do with their offense not keeping the ball long enough and wearing their own defense down against physical teams?

The Jets offense has been inexplicably bad. And while the passing game hasn't set the world on fire, the Jets run game has been non-existent. 29th in attempts 29th in yards/carry and 30th in yards gained. And it's not like the Jets have been in a lot of blowout games. A change was made at playcaller, but the Jets stiil only call about 21 rushes/game. The Jets are running the same number of plays as the opposition (487 to 489). But the opposition is dictating how the game is played. There is a formula to beat the Jets. Don't change it.

So then your answer was yes. For a smaller defense, the fact that the Jets aren't chewing up clock is wearing them down, even if the number of plays are about equal to the other team. Physical teams are wearing them down, even if it's 50-50 in terms of TOP. The Jets defense is built more for sustaining leads once they are already ahead, much like the Colts defense under Manning was built.

I guess my point in that was to say that Mixon should have a good day against them if they keep with it. Use him and let them wear them down. Hit them with some play action to keep them on their toes.

I don't know that its "inexplicable". The long and short of it is, Rodgers is no longer capable of elevating a team & teams don't respect his/their ability to pass the ball. Yeah the arm is still live & his numbers don't look atrocious but anyone whose watched them this year can see that he's not that guy anymore & he can't move back there. You add in a bad o-line, **** playcalling/coaching & that pretty much tells the tale. He's done & can't admit to himself that he is.

Just remember to mute the volume when you watch the game, folks. Michaels and Colliinsworth make TNF unwatchable to me, but since the Texans are playing,I gotta go plan B.

LOL…the Texans 6-2 vs. the Jets 2-6, and yet the Jets are favored.

Looks like I’m not the only one that thinks 6-2 is a fluke.

Collinsworth is still on NBC. Michaels is paired with the college football guy. Dammit, I can't remember his name and I don't want to look it up. Kirk or Kurt?

You never told me which games should have been L's.
None of them technically. But it still gives the false impression that they are better than they actually are. Teams like Detroit, Baltimore, and KC are going to expose it.

Maybe. Or maybe the Ravens crap the bed like they did vs the Raiders and Browns. Or Jared Goff turns back into a pumpkin. Or Mahomes continues to throw picks (9) and not TDs (8).

Every team, even the teams that win, have problems. But you can't see the forest (the rest of the NFL) for the trees (the Texans shortcomings). I would rather see the team win, despites their issues than lose with the same issues. There's something about finding ways to win. The Chiefs haven't played flawless football the past two seasons. They have found ways to win.

I do not want my quarterback running, however if he is going to get clobbered anyway might as well pick up some yards doing it I guess.

I feel like this is a dose of reality people just can’t grasp.

To me, with not so great pass blocking, CJ has not made the greatest decisions with what to do with the ball. In addition, he has slowed his decision-making instead of picking it up in compensation. That needs to change if there is any expectation of winning tomorrow.

Take bait? That is what some of us do. We jump off sides more than Tunsil due to our emotions, and always lead with shoulder that has the chip on it.
Often, it is worse than going to a Junior High football game when Mom and Daddy's little boy is playing.

Stroud steps up and everyone in the stadium, those at home and every player on the defense yells it's a run play!

It might be a play calling issue.

I didn't see the segment with The Hoodie. But if the Jets pass rush is out of control, there are multiple ways to take advantage. Draw plays, or just running the ball on an undisciplined front. Screens, be it RB, TE, or WR. If CJ sees a play to be made, he'll take it. I just don't want Slowik to make that a staple of the offense when there are safer ways to attack a front like the Jets have.

This is true. He's had less time in the pocket, and that makes it more difficult to see the entire field. Or even attempt to see the entire field. I don't think Stroud needs perfect protection. But he needs much better than he is receiving.

I've been saying all season that you can't judge a team by there early record. It's been that way for several years now. It's difficult to come back from 2-6 but it's happened. If not for firing their HC I'd have no problem believing the Jets could finish 7-2 or 6-3.

Please call Slowik and update him

Is that why the Jets are favored to beat houston?
