Undisciplined

A perfect view of the play. Late slide or not, that forearm blow was pretty blatant and avoidable and should have never been applied. That's certainly not an acceptable tackling technique.

Yup, I've watched it in slo-mo, real-time, from the side, rear, and front. The conclusion is unavoidable. He led with his wrapped forearm and used it as a weapon around the head/neck area. That's never going to fly, nor is his excuse. I'm not denigrating the man overall. He seems like a fine person. But as a player, he's taking it to the line and, in many cases, over the line. And it's stupid to play like that in the modern NFL. He's costing his own team, not to mention putting other men at risk of serious head injury. He's got to be a more intelligent, more disciplined player in the future.

You think he was aiming for the head?

Trevor Lawrence just came off a shoulder injury I believe

You think he was aiming for the head?

Sure looked that way. But maybe he was aiming for chest or shoulder, but caught the neck/head instead. If so, it's a difference without a distinction. The point is, he should not have been using the wrapped forearm whatsoever. Name the tackling technique taught that involves launching yourself at a sliding player and using a forearm in any way at all. That's not taught in pee wee to the NFL.

I'd like to see them officially impalement a fake slide/ fake out of bounds rule for the NFL, but I don't think that will resolve this issue. Azeez wasn't expecting a fake slide there. Someone expecting a fake slide doesn't launch themselves like that. What I think the bigger issue is with hits like this is the "late slide". QB's shouldn't be entitled to first downs just because they are close.... sometimes they try to push the envelope by trying to narrowly get the first and then slide. Defenders are closing fast and they want to get to you before you can get that first down.

That said, if he uses proper tackling technique in this case instead of trying to obliterate him none of this likely happens. Nowhere are you taught to launch yourself leading with your forearm. If that was a running back with some wiggle and Azeez launches himself like that he would get juked into the dirt.

As a defender when you are making a tackle in the open field you are taught to get square and "break down"...almost like the pose you'd see a sumo wrestler assume...
That way you can react to the ball carriers sudden change in direction or movement and make a solid fundamental tackle....Or what could have been in this case recognizing the slide and not making forceful contact.

It is still crazy to me that the media or Dan Patrick talk about Azeez and say he has two priors like he is a criminal. That is the type of character assassination that Demeco and Caserio are pissed about.

Azeez doesn’t have two priors.

He has two previous fines and no suspensions.

I am not black, but I will channel my inner Rachel Dolazel and say if I was and someone referred to me as having “two priors” like I was some repeat criminal, well, I would have a problem with that.

Way off of the rails there buddy. In the last year he has FOUR fines.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth. You have gone after Demeco and Caserio for defending Azeez and now you pretend like you haven’t. All of a sudden it’s off topic.

And I am not your buddy, pal.

You’re the one speaking of being Black and associated with priors. That’s where I said off the rails.

I know what this thread needs

One game is for the hit.

Second game is to protect Mahomes.

Third game is because you are Houston and we will make an example out of you.
All facts

The 3 games suspension has been upheld.

Watch how the F the Texans in the last 4 games of the season.

I’m pretty the chump that wrote that crap took what Nick said personal.

I heard one of the members use to work for the Titans.

Go figure

Why would the league not take what Nick said personally?

Leading with his forearm is what causes Trevor’s head to hit the ground. This sort of denial needs a prescription.

Not only that, but he’s just plain wrong. As soon as Azeez strokes him with the forearm, Trevor’s head immediately snaps backward. This is prior to his head striking the turf. Confirmation bias and/or gaslighting.

Exactly. It’s no debate about it.

Right, that's grounds for a 15 yard penalty & ejection.

3 game suspension though? I don't know.

No to the talking heads. He is a QB running which the NFL rules designate differently than any other player running. Like it or not that's the rule. There is no early slide or late slide, just a slide. Once the slide starts, it is dead. This doofus knows that.
Wow jusst today read news that Tom Brady is saying that they should have a penalty for QB choosing to slide too early or too late.
mmmm js

Brady, as a player, complained to the ref every time he thought he was hit late. Every time.

One thing doesn’t have to do with the other.

Brady played against Ray Allen, Urlacher and others.

He has said these QBs currently in the NFL aren’t good.

If you have a kid and he hits his sister and hurts her and you say time I am only warning you. And then the next week he does it again. And you say ok this time, I’m taking away your phone. And then a couple weeks later he does it again, and you say ok your grounded, and I’m taking your allowance. And if you do it again…i]your punishment will be harsher. And then he not only does it, but she has to go to the emergency room. Are you just going back to the baseline punishment? This is really not hard. Quit overthinking it.

It’s not hard at all. It was an intentional hit that could have paralyzed him.

He was fined the week before. Add that and the behavior after the play.
Kareem had priors. A particular flagrant penalty fined several times. After the third he was suspended.

No one would think it makes sense to suspend Barnett for a late hit out of bounds one week because he slapped a helmet three weeks ago.

Previous fines doesn't constitute "priors" in this case.

You keep saying that word... I do not think it means what you think it means.

You don’t, or shouldn't suspend a guy for a flagrant personal foul because he tackled a guy out of bounds three weeks ago.

& how do you get "back to baseline" the ejection is an escalation.

You are also missing the point. His actions on the field after played a part.

I don't buy it.

I don't like the way he behaved then. But to pile that into the punishment when he was instigated & egged on. I mean they'd have to fine every player involved to be "consistent."

I understand Emgram was defending his QB but that whole melee wouldn't have happened if he let the referees do their job.

I think everyone agrees Azeez was wrong, should have been ejected, fined, & suspended. But 3 games, that doesn't make any sense.

How many ejectible personal fouls has he committed in his career? When was the last time he was suspended for a personal foul?

But he gets the hammer?

He committed one earlier this season with a closed fist punch.

League didn't think so.

& that's the point. They are not being consistent.
They could not review it because it wasn’t called a penalty as the ref missed the play. This was discussed in the broadcast of that game.

Listen at 1:04. “The league cannot create a foul”. Can you suspend a player if a flag wasn’t thrown?
Had the ref seen it that’s an ejection.

And that's what has you the most upset. You're just piling on now because you're still butthurt over that

I’m not excusing throwing a forearm to the neck area (to Lawrence). It’s actually insane you never even condemned that. I get it. It can be hard to show accountability. You can’t even say it was an illegal hit which is damn pathetic. You’re just following Demeco and Nick. A follower. Just do what you’re told and tow the line.
