well maybe not but we really do not know and a good GM should be always trying to better team.Gaine hasn't made it known to anyone that Clowney is available for the right price. My post was pure speculation as to what I would do if I were in Gaine's shoes.
Generally they don't hold press conferences.
The Steelers announced the other day that they're seeking a trade partner for Bell.....funny how they generally don't hold press conferences.
Too fricking late for that. I think we are at the point that you are hurting the D with him on the field. Desire and heart makes a difference. Physical ability is not the whole story.Trade Clowney now before everybody realizes that his 1st pick value is gone down the injury drain.
I'm thinking that train has already left station but would love to be wrong.Trade Clowney now before everybody realizes that his 1st pick value is gone down the injury drain.
How about a third round and a 5th with both moving up one round based on some incentives? NE has two second rounders and I'd probably deal him straight for the last one.Too fricking late for that. It will play out that we get nothing for him. I say that but the Pats or other strong team with a strong coach may take a chance because they may think they can get him to perform and they may be able to. BOB can't do it.
If you can get that maybe but I don't think you will ever get over on NE. What will we get as compensatory? I do think Clown will be better with his 2nd team. He will finally have a chip on his shoulder. How about a third round and a 5th with both moving up one round based on some incentives? Spurrier would have known Clowney pretty well. Don't know what to make of that video or the real details of that instance, but my explanation of "bruised ribs" in the Injury Thread shows how what may sound like a simple injury can be a very excruciating one that can last a long time (depending by what defines "bruised rib").
This is why many were afraid to spend a 1.1 on him.

based on my eval Texans probably will not have any comps. Henderson and Kele are a wash but losing Clowney would be balanced by getting Mathieu and/or Fulton. If you can get that maybe but I don't think you will ever get over on NE. Stupid is as stupid does.Cursed
From the owner on down throughout the franchise and including almost damn near every player.
I've seen the word 'snake bit' on this site a few times but for the love of... je ne sais quoi, my brethren and fans.?!
Will the worm ever turn?
Yea if we could score a single second round pick for Clowney I'd jump on that deal real quick. Maybe he'll have a better game this Sunday to elevate his market value and attract some interest. How about a third round and a 5th with both moving up one round based on some incentives? Did you hear about the John McClain interview today with Clowney? 610 radio was reviewing it with Clowney saying he was 100 % "nothing wrong with me" during TC and preseason although he did not ask coaches why he was not with his teammates on field. He said "I'm a player". He said he is ready to go Sunday. Talk later was discussing vets coming back from injuries getting time in preseason games to 'knock off rust'.Yea if we could score a single second round pick for Clowney I'd jump on that deal real quick. there has been talk that Clowney was holding out for new extension. This info that he was not being allowed to "work off rust" in preseason games could add fuel to that. Bolded is what the radio guys were discussing. Little I got today from 610 was OB responded that team was handling Clowney's return from injury as team would with any other. Radio guys today said "Clowney threw coach under bus". It will be interesting to see if he improves with time in game as he has not looked very good so far. Watt at least had good game last week.Isn't it obvious, with his injury record why he wasn't playing. It also seems that if he really wanted to play he could have said something. Good to hear he's playing Sunday.

Watt looked great! If having Clowney out there helps Watt, then that in and of itself is a good reason to have him out there. Unfortunately, Clowney throwing the coach under the bus is a terrible look especially the week after he was fined for one of the stupidest penalties in team history. Well, I posted the video of his college coaches' frustration with him, maybe it's O'Brien's turn.there has been talk that Clowney was holding out for new extension. The whole situation with Clowney this entire calendar year has been nothing but a big mystery and cries out for transparency.Did you hear about the John McClain interview today with Clowney? 610 radio was reviewing it with Clowney saying he was 100 % "nothing wrong with me" during TC and preseason although he did not ask coaches why he was not with his teammates on field. It's pretty clear to me. Clowney had ANOTHER knee surgery and the team was being very cautious with his return. The team really surprised me by showing the proper restraint by not signing him to a mega $$$ extension. His play so fay has me thinking I'd let him walk as an UFA. If he turns it up and doesn't need post season surgeries on anything, I'm just as comfortable tagging him. IMO, the Texans are just in hide and watch mode and will have a decision to make in 2019. If anyone offers me a 2019 2nd rounder for him in 2018, he's gone. The whole situation with Clowney this entire calendar year has been nothing but a big mystery and cries out for transparency.
Could have just drafted Khalil Mack and given him the fat contract he deserves and avoided all this Clowney bullshit.
We'll end up with our dicks in hand, as per usual.
Hindsight is sublime
Hindsight is sublime
Not hindsight when that was my opinion all along.
This post doesn't make sense to me. Clowney is a walking time bomb, injury-wise and the Seahawks were fools to give DB that kind of $$.A possibility is Clowney wants to use his 2017 play to encourage other teams to come forth in a trade during this season or in the off season with an acceptable contract for the free agent. If he plays well and remains healthy it would encourage Houston to extend; if he is injured Texans probably will not want him and others might but would be able to offer less satisfactory deal. IMO I think the best offer [if any] would be done during the season:
1. 2019 draft offers several very good DEs and OLBs if a team cannot get him now. Middle of pack teams may make great offer to have CLowney take them deep or save a coach's job.
2. Team offering deal now controls him as does Houston for this season and 2 tags.
My thought next two games Clowney has great not just good games or he becomes trade bait. I'm not saying give him away but he should be worth what we got for D. Brown a third 2019 draft and a second 2020. A 30 + LT got three year extension with $16 million guaranteed. Talk about 25 YOA Clowney has had him at about that for annual guarantee for couple seasons. He might be worth even more.

Clowney is no DB.It only takes 1 team to believe in him... Seattle was desperate
There were a few of us that wanted Mack. I think in the final straw poll 3 or 4.
I wanted Clowney, looking back Mack or Matthews should've been the pick.
Give me Matthews to protect Watson.
See, Shish I can admit when I miss.
I wanted Watkins or Matthews. Donald if we traded down. But Clowney was the best choice at the time, except for those that wanted to trade down for a pass rusher
He doesn't have to be. He just has to be the guy a team thinks can get it to SB. LT are important but so are QB disruptors. Clowney is 25 DB 33. 2017 Clowney had 9 sacks 20 QB hits and 21 tackles for loss. 2 forced fumble and 2 pass defended in 2017 and very similar stats in 2016 playing in 30 of those 32 games. If you do not see value in that... Texans were willing to risk his health this year when they could have cut him putting $12 million into cap space. As I've stated my move barring an outstanding offer and him showing '16 and '17 play this season is to tag him.Clowney is no DB.
dupe..my post not you.Clowney is no DB.
Just a little disagreement PapaL, IMO Clowney should remain here even taking somewhat less $ looking at whom he plays with. If the nuclear of this defense remains healthy including JJ, Clowney can be a huge part and still not have overwhelming stats. Texans should offer a Brinks truck to Mathieu and KJ is playing very well for a 30 YOA and if that continues I could see him getting an extension with another clever Chris Owen contract. A rotation of these two with Justin Reid would allow Andre Hal time to get himself into football shape. This would be easier for a safety than Quessenberry had as OL. McNair had made some early statement about wanting to get deal done before season started and while I disagreed with that it should show Clowney McNair wants him.I was a Clowney #1 fan. Still not entirely disappointed; he’s had his moments. Injuries are the big what if but I think he still has some time left to prove his value. As far a contracts, I’d tag him if I was the FO. If I was Clowney I’d probably be trying to get away from this franchise. Someone is going to pay him good money. Oft injured disruptors still get paid in this league.
Trading Clowney after 2017 was the Texans best shot at getting maximum value for Clowney. I would love to know if any teams asked about his availability and if they made any offers. His play so far, in 2018, leaves a lot to be desired and he's a ticking injury time bomb. Going into the season, I was on the "tag him for two years or trade him" bandwagon. Now I'm thinking more along the lines of using the transition tag or just letting him walk, barring a trade. He doesn't have to be. He just has to be the guy a team thinks can get it to SB. For some reason, as it pertains to this thread, O'Brian doesn't feel O-Line level of talent is as subpar to rest of the league as some of us, well most of us here do.
Well, I'd actually dispute that. There's really not much point to thr transition tag. It's $12.9 instead of $14.9.
