The Actual And Real 2016 Texans' Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

Does anyone have the vote total? Do we have a quorum? I'm ready to make my pick for Washington (who hasn't been nominated for the Texans).

Back from the weekend (epic weekend, by the way) I like Blythe. Wanted the Mich St. kid last round but this is probably a better value here.

With pick 119, the Houston Texans take:

Joe Dahl, OG/OC, Washington State

I didn't do a ton of OL study this offseason, except for on the big name tackles and a few of the centers. I don't know anything about Dahl other than the little I have read.

Is this a pick for a potential starting center or is this pick for a versatile guy that may end up anywhere?

With the 120th pick in the 2016 Texans Talk Mock Draft, the Washington NFL team selects:

C.J. Prosise, RB Notre Dame

He is not a center. Probably not a tackle. Best position should be LG. Not a lot of length or core strength more of a technician who brings lunch pail work ethic & toughness.

Depends on who you talk to. I think TexansFTW and Texian liked him because of his versatility and possibility to play C.

That would be a complete projection. He has zero Center experience, only Guard & Tackle. Not a natural knee bender or particularly good feet. If you want Center take someone proven with requisite skill set.

I wanted to break what I thought was a tie & switch from Turek to Blythe but couldn't do it. Turek is a top shelf center prospect while I see Blythe best case, another Ben Jones.

Blythe played for probably the best OL coaching mind in college football. If I was a ZBS team then Blythe is a no brainer. However the Texans are more of a power run O. I do like Dahl's versatility and I am not convinced that Dahl cannot play OT. Dahl has many similarities to Duane Brown and is better prepared in pass pro than Brown was as a rookie. Also I think there is a good chance a OC will be available later. IMHO I think Lance is spread to thin with all his media success. Even before Lance was only so so in his evaluations. Lance's greatest contributions came as SEC Guy on twitter and radio interviews, now that's funny!

I obviously prefer Blythe, by quite a bit actually, but I'd rather walk out with Dahl than Vannett so I guess I'm good with it.

are the Texans doomed to have a huge hole in the middle of the line protecting our new shiny QB? Well it's not like he's unused to a porous line

At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I'm sitting on my pick and getting ready for work ... any word on mussop's Vikes?

I'm not going to lie. I can watch a center, guard, or tackle all day. I'm not a dummy. I obviously know you want to clear lanes and not let your QB get hit. Other than that, I know nothing. I'm an adrenaline guy, I like to follow the ball around the field and follow who is hitting the guy with the ball. I read NFL draft profile, Walter, CBS, Bah007, and Wolverine Fan talk about their arm movements and stuff like that.

On top of those 5, and no offense to those 5, I often read Pro Football Focus. They are the only guys (that I've found) that give metrics to and frequently rate and review OLineman. So when those guys hype up a guy, I tend to follow suit. Here's a few things they said about that guy.

10. Joe Dahl, Washington State
Joe Dahl remains one of PFF’s highest graded offensive linemen, despite missing two games due to injury. So far this season, he has graded out positively in all but one of the games he’s played. Though reliable in the run game (+5.0), Dahl has performed especially well when in pass protection. Asked to drop back and protect his quarterback a staggering 505 times this year, Dahl has excelled, leading the nation with a pass blocking grade of +15.7.

Joe Dahl, Washington State
One of the most experienced pass protectors in the country over the last two seasons, Dahl is also one of the most efficient. The left tackle had 1,382 pass blocking snaps over the past two seasons (Ronnie Stanley didn’t miss a game and took 871 for comparison) and finished in the top 25 for pass blocking efficiency nationwide both years (13th in 2015). Dahl is undersized though with strength concerns to boot. Some see him as a guard at the next level, but his power issues were only exacerbated while playing there at the Senior Bowl. Dahl’s change of direction ability is top notch and has enough tools to be a competent pass protector in the NFL.

"He could play multiple positions at the next level, including center, but I think guard is his best position." To that point, Dahl played both left and right guards in college. The NFL analyst concluded that "ome team will draft him in the second round; others will wish they had."

I don't get it. Why get a guy who might be able to play C instead of a C? Oh well.

I get what you are saying, and if we passed up a great Center for Joe Dahl I get it.

But we didn't. We passed up on fringe guys that aren't going to start over Tony Bergstrom without injury.

Joe Dahl wouldn't either. But Joe Dahl can be a serviceable backup Center, fight to remove Bust Sua-Filo from the team, and MAYBE fight to get Derek Newton's contract cut.

We weren't drafting a starter for the Center position, so For me personally, I'd want a guy that can fight and challenge at all 3 spots.

There was discussion about shifting to 2 hours to try to get through this a little faster.

I would be fine with that change but we seem to have had a real issue with people sending a list to someone if they are going to be off for awhile.

That will only get worse with a shorter clock.

If we go to 2 hours and the team on the clock hasn't PM'ed any picks to anyone, I vote that that team gets the highest ranked player left on a big board (pick one and stay with it). Then go from there.

bust Sua-Filo? It's not his fault that he was moved all over the place trying to learn the nfl and all positions on the Ol his first year. That's on the coaches. And injuries happen. I think he's gonna be a good LG now that he has only one job

Should we discuss options for this pick? Mussop has less than 10 min remaining on the clock.

The Vikings have already addressed WR and OT. I see needs at OG, DE, and S.

I think we give them the top S available if the clock runs out. Dillon's name has been thrown around for the last couple of group picks.

That's fair, we all have different opinions, you defend Sua-Filo and I respect your opinion.

I won't come off my stance though that I think he's a loser. He was the first pick of the 2nd round, almost like a late 1st, and yeah he's been moved. And yeah, he's failed everywhere he's gone. Will I cut him from the team? Of course not. He costs as much to cut as to keep this season. He's young. He has "upside". And even if I keep him next year too he still costs me peanuts to keep on the roster. He's got 2 years to show me he needs to wear a red and blue uniform, otherwise he gets the boot. Of course we resigned Derek Newton so who knows what happens.

At the end of the day though we all see things differently. I can definitely be wrong and you can be right and he shows out. But if he does show out, now I can have Dahl focus on taking Newton or Bergstorm job.

I have a high respect for PFF, this is what they do, they get up everyday and watch game videos and they grade them like a coach and they evaluate them like a scout. You get snap counts, run vs pass, grades, no where else can you get this info. Every NFL Team subscribes to their services and they get much more detail and analysis than the individual subscriber and the individual subscriber gets enormous detail. If you want to know the intricacies of the positions on the O line, Alex Gibbs has about 12 hours of teaching videos on youtube. Gibbs goes in to great detail about first step, hand positions, helmet placements for maximum leverage and control, backside blocks, timing as it relates to the 3, 5, 7 step drop, QB handing ball to RB in his 3rd step. You'll never watch a game again in the same way after watching all the Gibbs teaching videos.

Dammit Whopper....Dammit to all hell...I guess since the Bengals can't beat the Steelers on the field they are beating them to the pick!

With the 123rd pick, the Pittsburg Steelers select ...
Fahn Cooper, OT, Ole Miss

With the #124 pick the Seahawks select:

Austin Blythe - C, Iowa

Over here in Seattle we are continuing our overhaul on the offensive side of the ball. Lynch retired so we brought in a young RB to help Rawls carry the load in his place. Okung is gone so we brought in an OT in FA. We addressed a need at OG in the first round. And now we are addressing the C position here. Our projected starter here is Patrick Lewis. That's not going to cut it. Blythe is a pro ready OL prospect that can play C in any system, but fits best on a run-first squad, which is exactly what we are. He's an excellent zone blocker and shows enough strength and power to hold blocks in the power run game as well. He is a little raw in pass protection but in our system that is okay as long as he will continue to improve over time.

Up next is the group pick for Green Bay. They've already hit DL, OLB, and ILB.

I think they really need to hit OL here.

Made it back for a little while. I see the Texans picked OG at 119. I had a couple on mind, but neither has even been discussed so I'll see if they fall to 190 for the next Rams pick. My board is staying pretty unaffected by recent picks. I might get two of the players I wanted at 110.
