I don't agree with SteelB's post about Stroud's slow decision making being the reason WRs aren't making space, but in his defense, not only is the receiver group improved, RBs and TEs are improved as well.

I was able to catch up with a friend this week with connections to Kirby, and he confirmed the same thing.

Ride or Die Hannah has assumed control. . .to an extent.

QB was a must in this draft. I, for one, am glad for it. Tired of watching this team flounder without a high ceiling signal caller.

I figure every wolf pack needs a leader. In the boardroom, that's Hannah. In the front office, that's Nick. On the football field, that's DeMeco.

There's not a power struggle in the building. Everyone is working together and pointing in the right direction.

Not a Jack Easterby or Bill O'Brien in sight. The cleansing has been completed.

For me it's simple. If Stroud turns out to be a very good to great quarterback, I'll be glad ownership interfered. If he flops, I'll be back to where I was the last three years...feeling like the Texans are destined for at best mediocrity, at worst blowing the #1 overall pick, with this ownership leading the organization.

Right now, I'm standing on the sidelines waiting to see what happens.

As for the nonexistent power struggle, they're still in their honeymoon phase. Gaine and O'Brien supposedly had that at first. And ownership had Gaine working for them as director of player personnel for three seasons before he left for Buffalo and came back to be the GM. So, he must have had a good relationship with O'Brien and ownership at one point. Then...WHACK! Off with his head. I know there were complaints by personnel regarding Gaine and racism but according to ownership his firing had nothing to do with the complaints. I don't know what the truth is but regardless, the marriage ended in bitter disappointment. So again, I'm waiting to see what happens. But, unlike the last three or four years, I'm at least interested.

Caserio has overseen a difficult rebuilding project, acquiring draft capital and adding to the roster while working with a pair of one-and-done coaches in Smith and David Culley. The enthusiasm surrounding the franchise is perhaps matched by Ryans’ praise of the former New England Patriots executive.

“Nick has been really fun to work with,” Ryans said. “Nick is very knowledgeable,one of the smartest football minds I’ve been around. It’s not just the scouting part when it comes to acquiring players, but it’s also just the football knowledge, the scheme, the X’s and O’s. We’ve become pretty tight over the last couple months, and it’s been a really great relationship.

“I’m happy to be in this spot working with someone as experienced as Nick because he’s helped me and guided me through a lot. It’s always great to have someone you can lean on, someone you can trust, and our relationship – me and Nick – we collaborate on everything. That was our plan coming into it and that’s what we do. Every morning we’re meeting, making sure that we’re on the same page, and I think that’s how you grow when you have collaboration and you have buy-in from everyone.”

Gaine reached the Peter Principle. He had virtually no connections with other GMs. Once GM, he could not make important quick decisions. His trigger finger seemed to be broken.

I believe we attempted to offer Casserio that job when Gaine was fired, however the Patriots hit us with a tampering charge. SO we backed out and were left with a decision to make. O'Brien gained the position after finishing that season without a GM.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.
 
If Slowik's offense follows the 49ers' template (which I have heard is almost assuredly the case), it will be an extremely run first scheme. The QB is likely to have mostly a secondary complementary role.

For all the faults of the Houston Texans’ roster in 2022, the team had a solid foundation with their stable of running backs in the offensive backfield.

Dameon Pierce led the way last season as one of the NFL’s most explosive runners, and with the addition of Buffalo Bills mainstay Devin Singletary earlier in the offseason, the Texans seem poised to be a gritty rush-first team with their rookie quarterback at the helm of the offense.

Coach DeMeco Ryans was asked about his duo of talented rushers after mandatory minicamp June 14, and told reporters about his confidence at the running back position heading into the 2023 season.

“Devin has done a good job,” Ryans said. “Devin has put himself in a really good spot — love the attention to detail, how he prepares each and every day, so I’m excited where Devin [is]. We’ll see how that looks with Dameon and Devin, Mike [Boone] – all those guys in our backfield. The way we have a lot of capable guys, and again, we’ll see how that looks come training camp.”

Rookie quarterbacks are known for needing help in their first year as they acclimate to life in the NFL, so the Texans’ hefty investments in their backfield should pay dividends in the early part of their schedule.

…..OB grabbed a banjo and marched into Cal’s office and started playing and singing an impromptu song about making him squeal like a pig if he wasn’t made GM…..Cal made the announcement shortly thereafter.

Expect 5 to 7 wins this year, and next year is when they'll hopefully compete for a wild card. If DeMeco is who we think he is, we only have one more trash season to get through before it starts getting good.

The problem is they wasn’t told to do that. Some people are saying that because they like to be miserable or stirring up drama. I’ve posted both interviews of the McNair’s saying otherwise. The GM and coach made that decision together. But hey I digress.

Some cant see the forest for the trees - it was pretty obvious we needed to draft a possible future of the franchise signal caller and we got one and also got the safest bet in the draft.
Both were also the top two PoN so why the drama?
Smh and roll my eyes.

Jerrah is the Cowboys GM.

As far as Tepper and the Panthers, Carolina's pick was unanimous across the board (Texans pick was not).

"When we were in there, we had a trade to go up to two and it was a three-way trade with Chicago and we were going to go up to two and the Texans were going to trade up to one. Chicago was going to be down to two and we were going to trade with Chicago. And so we were waiting, we had that trade kind of ready. And so we waited. I said what’s going on with these guys, this doesn’t feel right. And so Wednesday goes, Thursday goes, and we get to Friday and the Texans changed their mind about the trade. We go into the afternoon, it’s Friday afternoon and Scott talked to [Ryan] Poles and he got a value that he would accept for us to move up to one. And basically, we knew that we had to make a decision then. We wanted to get a trade done. We thought there were better people, including the Raiders, that had better trades on the line and if we waited, they may come and jump us if we waited on that day because we knew we were the burning hand. They knew they had to trade with us, a trade they could like. So we all decided that this was the better thing to do to trade up and it was a joint decision. Everybody was on board with it I think at the time and we knew if we didn’t do it then we may lose it. So we just made that decision together."

I think he leads this team to mediocrity. A place Texans fans know all to well.

Some of them just don’t believe the ownership cleaned out all the leaks. Even though a lot of heavy hitters that are close ( a few in particular played for this team) specifically stated, no one is leaking out ANY information at all. So then the usual suspects come in here debunking what they said. And their faithful followers believe everything they say. When they went against what they predicted. That’s when they put out there that the McNair’s told them or put out a mandate to draft CJ. Lol

They have to cover their tracks because their sources/sauces were wrong.
