Texans random thought of the day

Things that should be banned in the NFL:

Kicking FGs inside the 10 yard line
Yellow flags on 1st down
Players with apostrophes in their name
So..if a DE jumps off side, bust your QB upside his head, whirls him around and pile drives him head down rupturing his spine in neck and giving him a concussion..it's just hello Mary Lou good by heart?

Things that should be banned in the NFL:

Kicking FGs inside the 10 yard line

All FGs inside 20 yards should be drop kicks. That includes putting the PAT back to the 2 and drop kicking those.

Yellow flags on 1st down

Yellow on 1st shouldn't be banned but how about stop making every damn penalty on defense, other than offsides, result in an automatic 1st down?

Players with apostrophes in their name

Apostrophes and hyphens.

Texans, Vikings join growing queue of teams hoping to host NFL draft
Michael McClymont May 8, 2017 4:31 PM
The list of NFL cities hoping to host a future NFL draft is growing longer by the day.

Since the league moved its marquee offseason event from the famous Radio City Music Hall in New York in 2015, cities have been clamoring to host the three-day festival.

The latest to throw their names in the hat are the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings.

"Houston is in the mix among a number of other cities to be considered for the draft," Texans team president Jamey Rootes told the media on Monday. "It would be a spectacular event for our community. You saw what we did for the Super Bowl."

The city of Houston hosted Super Bowl LI in February, the league's premiere showcase event.

"We had representatives up at the draft in Philadelphia to get an eyes-on view of the requirements in hopes that at some point in time we are asked to bid," Rootes said. "I think Houston would be a very, very valuable spot for the National Football League to locate the draft."

The Vikings, hosts of Super Bowl LII, would also like to bring the NFL community to Minneapolis for another event.

"We think, obviously, we have a great community, great hospitality, great hotels, restaurants," team executive vice president Lester Bagley said on Monday, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Bagley confirmed the franchise applied in October to host the 2022 or 2023 NFL Draft.

"It helps us get through the Super Bowl and then turn our attention to thinking through what the logistics of an NFL draft in our market would look like," he said.

The draft was held in New York from 1965-2014 and has since been brought to Chicago for b the 2015 and 2016 events, while Philadelphia hosted this year.

Kansas City, Green Bay, Denver, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and Canton, Ohio have all expressed interest in hosting the draft.

Don't even remember what I was looking up when I ran across this NFL record.

Worst single season turn around in NFL history (10) - Houston Oilers, 12-4 to 2-14 in '94 AND Houston Texans, 12-4 to 2-14 in '13.

we do like to set the standard here in Houston

Bills hired Panthers assistant GM Brandon Beane as general manager. Giving their new HC Mcdermott a similar relationship Kubiak had with Rick Smith when hired. Both guys hired fom the same team. Like with Kubiak/Smith, Mcdermott most assuredly had a hand in getting Beane the job.

Which means we keep Brian Gaine! One of the brightest personnel guys in the game that has yet to get a GM position.

Terrence Pagula is a dumbazz. He should have hired Elliot Wolfe, or Nick Saban, or Jimbo Fisher, or Peyton Manning.

They make this ownership stuff too damned hard.

a fluke is a fluke... wrong people were let go causing one and wrong people retained too long for the other

Gotta disagree,

The McNair run Texans are run much like the Adams run Oilers.

Really not much of a fluke and the results should be expected.

Sad with a guy as talented as Gaine that Ricky McNair has been allowed to screw up the Texans franchise for over a decade.

Fluke was meant the rare circumstances that caused those 2 disastrous seasons... wasn't a fluke in terms that the owners were the cause but only that 12-4 to 2-14 are not likely to happen often and those two were for almost exact opposite reasons.

Bud fired everyone after a 2-14 season because they didn't win the SB and with new QB and HC and about everything else they collapsed completely

McNair held on to S&S longer than he should have and 2013 was the result

Dang McNair might need to take Texans to another City. We Houston people don't appreciate having a football team here. All we do is complain about how McNair and Smith keep screwing this franchise up.

Digging deeper: Texans have developed knack for finding keepers among undrafted
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/spo...-Texans-have-developed-knack-for-11137677.php

When the rookies take the field Friday for the first time in their rookie minicamp, the seven draft choices will be joined by 22 undrafted free agents and 17 more prospects who are participating on a tryout basis.

...

The area that got the most attention among the undrafted free agents was the defensive line. Five, including two nose tackles, were signed.

There were four linebackers, four defensive backs and four wide receivers. Three receivers — Illinois’ Justin Hardee (4.36), TCU’s Deanté Gray (4.39) and Iowa’s Riley McCarron (4.39) — run sub-4.40s in the 40-yard dash.

“We try to evaluate everybody, whether they’re veterans or rookies,” O’Brien said. “We’re looking for guys that really understand what we’re trying to do. They can contribute in their own way.

“We’ve got a good group, and we’re really excited about working with them.”

2nd year players get to participate in the rookie minicamp as well right? I seem to remember them saying Labhart and EZ were further along than the draft picks like Strong at this camp due to being on practice squad the previous season?

He looks good, but I'm not sure he looks any "better/bigger" than before. Almost looks like a big FATHEAD print poster.

Which means I can express myself and if you dont like it. Well keep it moving

You can express yourself and I don't have to like it. But you can count on being questioned or called out if you make a nonsensical post. Deal with it or move on

Which means i have the right to call those that complains about the same old skit every freaking day and in every darn thread.

I would be OK with that.

Give me an owner who wants to win first and foremost.

Otherwise don't let the door hit you on the way out

You can best believe ownership wants to win. He's emphasized that several times. Thus the reason why Kubiak got the boot. That's just one example.

The season O'Brien's regime started off 0-4 Mr. McNair spoke up and vigorously might I add about firing jokers if they didn't get their acts together.

So you can best believe he wants to win.

Lol

He wants to win no doubt. It's about 3rd on his priority list

Sure ya do. And everyone does. I have the right and my obligation to myself and my fans to tell you when I think you're over the top

And that don't bother me not one bit. But the constant bashing even after another solid draft is over the top.

Sure it was, but it's the off season and people are cushioning themselves from a let down season. Last year at this time, most of the board was over the top with expectation of how the Texans would do with Os at QB, and you see how that worked out. Much easier to declaim the maybe good and acclaim the fk'd up part. It's the offseason

Foreman is the only draftee not signed. Maybe just a haggle point, but wonder if the Texans want to place some sort of injury clause in his contract for this year. There are contract spits that can be negotiated by a concerned team. There are injury waivers that can be inserted into contracts, making players waive their legal rights if a pre-existing injury affects their ability to play.

The Texans have claimed CB Marcus Roberson off of waivers from the Bills. He was always known in college a a very good cover man.........but slow 40........and couldn't tackle a player if one foot was nailed to the field. Had character issues in college, including being penalized for breaking team rules. In college, he also a worrisome injury history of multiple PCL tears and ankle ligament tears as well as a severe neck injury that knocked him out of a season requiring surgery. In 3 years in the NFL, he has managed only a little of 30 tackles with 8 pass defenses and only 1 interception.

Apparently, there are some contractual points in 3rd rounders that afford more wiggle room for negotiations - which are likely ongoing.
But you do raise a good point about his old injury.

Texans' Newton placed on PUP list, out for 2017 season
Michael McClymont May 12, 2017 8:20 PM
The Houston Texans placed their starting right tackle Derek Newton on the reserve physically unable to perform list. He will miss the entire 2017 season as he continues to recover from torn patella tendons in both legs, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.

Newton missed the rest of the 2016 season after sustaining the injury in a Week 7 game.

Newton was rated as the best run blocker in 2015 by Pro Football Focus. He also played and started in every game he had played in since 2013.

The Texans selected an offensive tackle in the 2017 NFL Draft, picking Julie'n Davenport in the fourth round with the 130th overall pick.

Can't be talking about the same guy. Ricky McNair found our Derek Newton in the 7th round.
