You remember or remember reading/hearing about it? Just asking...:bubbles:

Near the beginning of this website, I actually posted a history of all the defunct Football teams and if they just folded or moved or were renamed. The discussion if I remember centered around the context of the Texans team name.

Where is the annual Texans Cheerleader thread? Did our photographer who used to cover that even retire on us? He was great!

so many better things to look at... kinda strange that one would focus on that

Not that there's anything wrong with that but...

Despite draft needs, Texans' Bill O'Brien doesn't want to 'rush' picks
http://www.espn.com/blog/houston-te...-texans-bill-obrien-doesnt-want-to-rush-picks

...

Even though the Texans might have specific needs at positions they know they want to fill, head coach Bill O'Brien said he thinks it's important not to "rush" to take a player just because you have a strong need.

"You can't be in a rush as a coach. In the end, you have to think about kind of taking that thought process out of it and just saying, 'OK, this is the best thing for our team in 2017. This is what we have with our team,'" O'Brien said at the NFL owners meetings last month. "We have a strong defense. We've got some players here and there. Let's make sure we have the right guy at that position and not go reach for somebody that we're not sure about.

"If there's a doubt in your mind, don't do it. Stick with what you have and coach them up, and I think that's the attitude we have in Houston. Whoever [general manager] Rick [Smith] gives us, we try to do the best job we can at coaching those guys up. I think we've proven that we can do that. You can't rush and go grab a guy just because you think you need that position."

...

O'Brien said he thinks Smith has a great feel for not only the 2017 draft class, but players who are "coming down the pipe" in 2018 and 2019 as well, which is important even when trying to improve a team for next season.

"There has to be a vision of what's out there," O'Brien said. "This year I feel like there’s a lot of DBs in this draft. It seems like there's a lot of DBs -- corners and safeties. But maybe next year there's not. So maybe you want to think about corners and safeties if that's what you are looking at for your team this year relative to flip it now. Well, there's not a ton of inside pass-rushers in this draft, but next year there's 10 of them. I think you have to have a feel for that."

Sounds like he & Rick just don't get along

Tell me you are not falling for this bs. You'd have to be blind, deaf and somewhat gullible. And I don't believe you're that for a minute.

One or the other will be gone after this season.

I think Obrien is fed up with fighting it and will toe the "McNair family line" till he gets another job with a team that has a clue.

Texans cutting lineman Tony Bergstrom

Updated 12:38 pm, Thursday, April 13, 2017

The Texans are cutting seldom-utilized veteran offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

Bergstrom signed a two-year, $5.75 million contract last spring that included $1.5 million total guaranteed through a $750,00 signing bonus and a $750,000 roster bonus. He was due a nonguaranteed base salary of $2.625 million this season, and the Texans saved $2.875 million against the salary cap this year.

The Texans have the fifth-most salary-cap space available in the NFL with $31.601 million available with 64 players under contract.

Signed to compete for a starting job, Bergstrom played in just three offensive snaps last season. He appeared in 15 games as a reserve as Greg Mancz emerged as the starting center when second-round draft pick Nick Martin was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury that required surgery.

For the Raiders from 2012 to 2015, Bergstrom played in 25 games with four starts.

Bergstrom is a 6-5, 315-pound former Raiders third-round draft pick from Utah.

I'm anticipating two high picks going to the OL.

Nor should he.

He has the right to give some input but he was not hired to be the GM.

& I'm sure he had lots of input on Will Fuller & Tom Savage.

I'm sure he & his coached had lots of input on John Simon, Vince Wilfork, Chris Polk, Lamar Miller, & Brian Hoyer.

He's not totally out of the process.

Though, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't on board with XSF. Seems to not be a fan.

The Browns are seriously pursuing a trade partner to trade up and take their #1 pick..........sounds like a perfect opportunity for Smith to give away all of this year's picks and what's left of next year's. I'm sure that somehow the Texans can make this into the smartest deal of the century only second to the Osweiler trade.

Nah, that's not his style. His style is to trade up for inconsequential players mid draft or mid round, ala Will Fuller, Louis Nix.

No. He's not out of the process. He makes the grocery list, the GM gets the groceries. The GM is the one with the scouting department. Though that doesn't mean OB doesn't ask for a specific brand i.e. Fitz, Hoyer, etc. Then again, with RS's track record of not drafting QBs, maybe OB's only option was to pick from the dented can shelf.

And take who?
Or are you being sarcastic?

The Texans waived outside linebacker Gerald Rivers.
Again?
or is this old news?

this link about Rivers being waived, by the Texans, is from last season

Edit (more info/new link):

Rivers spent the 2016 season on injured reserve after suffering an injury in the preseason. He was waived-injured in August (first link) but no other team claimed him.

He has bounced around the bottom of rosters since entering the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted rookie from Ole Miss.

Rivers (undisclosed) was waived by the Texans on Thursday.

Rivers spent last season on the Texans injured reserve due to an undisclosed injury. It remains unclear if he's dealing with the injury still. He'll become a free agent if he clears waivers.

For the past couple of years up to the present McClain has been reporting Smith and McNair (and he himself) saying that we are just a QB away from the SuperBowl.

Flip flop to the present.

I think Texans will have a terrific defense and enough offense to win AFC South again, but contend for the Super Bowl? Come on!

I've never thought the Texans were a QB like Romo away from contending for a Super Bowl. They've got 2 many holes that must be filled.
