Texans random thought of the day

One easy thing is stop the bunch formations with heavy personnel
Don’t remember the play and formation (I can’t remember the time but it was 3rd Q, they were backed up at the north goal line) offense came out with 3 TE’s, 1 WR (Metchie I think) and Mixon. That screams run and of course they ran it off tackle to the left. Completely blown up for a loss. Run that personnel more than once and play action pass to one of the TE’s once. Ridiculous

Not every NFL WR has separation speed….Hutchinson falls into that group. What Hutchinson could be is a decently solid big bodied possession WR who can move the chains. Design slants, outs, and rub routes where his size can be of benefit….just don’t give him Nico’s routes and expect Nico’s results.

Pretty sure Hutch got quite a lot of snaps yesterday. Well over 60%
Hurch has made some fantastic catches the past couple weeks

Just saw on ESPN bet, jets -1

I'm getting a kick out of 49ers fans right now on Facebook having the same discussion we had here a decade ago, about Kubiak's system not allowing the QB to audible at all.
None of them have learned yet what I learned from you guys that each play has a secondary play that gets checked to based on what the defense shows.
There are hundreds of people piling on Kyle Shanahan saying his ego is too big to allow QBs to audible or that he doesn't trust them.
It's definitely brining back memories

I was unfortunately right in this discussion on a post from a Tik Tok "#1 NFL Player Prop Expert".

So called prop expert: We've never seen a bigger lock than Dalton Schultz over 43 receiving yards!

Me: You don't watch the Texans if you think Schultz is a lock for 43+ yards.

Comment section: Stroud has nobody to throw to.

Me: Robert Woods will have more yards than Schultz

This team is in desperate need of a bye week. They need to get healthy of course. Too many key players are dinged up with Anderson now added to the list. But most importantly they need to take some time to figure out how to fix their shortcomings without gameplanning for an opponent.

Their toughest opponent on the schedule is themselves. How do they fix the OL to have a chance at playing in February? How do they adjust their approach at halftime to actually score points in the second half of games?

I don’t care about winning the Lions game next week right now. I care about seeing an OL that wont put CJ in scramble mode nearly every time he drops back to pass.

Fortunately the Lions don't have the pass rush the NYJ have.

I just heard that after the game Stroud said we need to stop pointing fingers. That sounds like there's turmoil starting to build in the locker-room. If that's true and Meco doesn't slow that down and reverse course, this season could be washed down the drain.

I'll go ahead and write this now - if the Texans get humiliated by the Lions, I mean completely curb stomped, one of the most embarrassing loses for this franchise ala Chief's playoff game, the Texans won't make the playoffs this season. And I believe there's a better chance than not that they get destroyed by the Lions.

I think they make the playoffs simply because of the division, but they would certainly be one and done.

In two games against the Colts they won those games by a combined five points. Those two games and catching the Bills on an off day has helped create this mirage of a good team. The Texans are not a good team.

They haven't been a good team since that playoff win last season. Not consistently, anyway. Since then, they remind me of that co-worker that received the smallest of promotions and became the most annoying, egotistical jerk in the office. And unfortunately, that annoying jerk had enablers in the office that kept stroking their ego. That's the media and fans.

Texans-Jets draws 11.56 million for Thursday Night Football

Cayenne pepper and water might have helped Aaron Rodgers, but it didn’t goose the ratings.

Thursday night’s Texans-Jets game on Amazon Prime attracted an audience of 11.56 million viewers. That’s a slight drop from last year’s Week 9 Titans-Steelers game, which did 11.65 million.

The New York market would ordinarily deliver more eyeballs, but the Jets had lost five in a row. After a sluggish and ugly first half, some might have decided to watch something/anything else.

Thursday Night Football is averaging 13.0 million viewers per game. it’s a four-percent increase over last year’s average through Week 9.

So you think they're going to lose at least one game to the Jags/Titans and not beat another team the rest of the yr? I just dont see this happening regardless of what happens against the Lions.

I’m with Banned. This team is a total fraud right now.

Can they somehow find the magic again? We are 9 games in. I wouldn’t count on it, but certainly cannot rule it out.

Most likely, they will find a way to win a weak division, then get curb stomped week one and be toast. I also wouldn’t rule out a complete collapse ala 2023 Jags. The Colts with Flacco are legit. It would not at all shook me if they cam roaring back and passed the Texans. Right now, the Texans are playing like a bottom 10mteam not top 10.

Some of these issues are systemic and run deep. Very difficult path to fix some of this in-season..

So the game was about the 2023 average?

Fraud? They're not perpetrating to be anything other than who they are.

The problem is that most of us want to believe they're something they never claimed to be. A Super Bowl Contender.

The offense isn't good. The Jets have a better offense. They pass for more yards, they run for more yards, they score more.
The Jets defense is better than ours. They allow less passing yards, less TDs, they sack the QB more than we do.

The only way anyone can think the Texans are a better team than the NYJets is looking at the W-L record. That's a fallacy on our part, not theirs.

My hope is that they'll be a better team at the end of the season than they were at the beginning. We really can't ask for more than that.

Because of one game?
It would have been totally different if we had Collins and Diggs healthy

Brother they’re still getting good pressure on opposing quarterbacks. After Hutchinson went down, they still sacked the quarterback 4 times. They got 4 sacks against the Vikings. And to be frank, the Texans offensive line is trash so they don’t need the Jets pass rush.

Every team has had a fierce pass rush this season when they’ve played the Texans. The team isn’t exactly playing a murderer’s row of pass rushing defenses. OL is worst in the league at pass protection this season. Unacceptable given what has been invested in the unit.

The Texans are better than the Jets. But like we’ve all stated before,’Any Given Sunday, Monday or Thursday”.
The freaking Jets has struggled all year long only beating the sorry ash Patriots and sorry ash Titans. They’re barely score 20.6 points a game for the season so far. On defense they’re giving up 20.3 a game. They have been whipped by both the 49ers and Steelers. That was a desperation game for them, in which they needed and wanted more than us.

We had plenty of opportunities to win this game. That should have been an easy touchdown to Metchie, Stroud usually doesn’t miss on pass like that. Fairbairn is usually big time and money, he missed two FG. ( uncharacteristic). The pass by Mixon to CJ should’ve been a TD, the defender had his arm wrapped around CJ’s. That should’ve been a PI as well. That’s 20 points right there. I’m not even add in the fumble in the red zone.

The Jets were the better on that day and that day alone.

If you were disappointed in the Jets game, better stock up on your booze or whatever for the Detroit game. We're gonna lose our asses on that one. After that, we'll win some of those easy ones barely making it into the playoffs only to disappear after wild card weekend.

Until it's fixed, our oline is an insurmountable problem. Nico will help when he gets back, but Nico isn't enough to beat the good teams consistently.

Lets see how this plays out. They gave up 29 points to the Vikes.

Yep the Lions are no joke, and that's gonna be a freight train heading down here the second Monday of the month from
MO-Town !

Adding guys like Slayton, Andres Peat or Bitonio would help and not cost any rd1-3 picks. I would give up a 3rd rd pick for Newsome
I know you were responding to a post on what moves could be made but I wanted to continue here vs the Week 9 GameDay thread.

I don't think trades are going to get this team over the hump. Do you think these players make this team a SB contender or simply a better team this year? I do see where it's an attempt to address needs since the OL is sucking and the injury bug has hit key players. But coaching has been a head scratcher at times and needs improvement especially the guy we have impersonating an OL coach. Sometimes a team under-performs or gets out-coached but we seem to have lapses multiples times in every game...seems like discipline (focus) is lacking.
