Texans random thought of the day

Communication issues seems to be a theme for that game.

Oline communication issues.
OC and QB communication issues.
The booth telling HC to challenge.
The HC getting the players in position the very next play that led to a TD.
On the last drive of the game CJ made it seem he didn’t know the strategy of the drive.

Every single away game, especially in a loud building there's communication issues.

The main issue imo is simplifying things. Get people all on the same page earlier, have simple hand signals, etc.

The refs blew it...............but so did Ryans (and our coaches in the upper booth which have good spatial
view of the field and players)

Ryans has a terrible record in challenges.

DeMeco Ryans admits he should have challenged incompletion that appeared a lateral

The Texans forced three Packers turnovers in the first half Sunday. They should have had a fourth, but the officials blew a call and Houston coach DeMeco Ryans failed to challenge.

With Green Bay at the Houston 30, Jordan Love threw a backward pass to Jayden Reed that hit the ground. The Texans picked up the ball, but officials ruled it an incompletion.

It was a lateral and should have been the Texans ball.

CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore called it “close” but agreed, after watching replays, that Reed was behind Love when the receiver touched the ball.

The Packers hurried to the line, knowing it might be a lateral, and Love found Dontayvion Wicks for a 30-yard touchdown to give Green Bay a 14-10 lead.

The Texans took two timeouts to the locker room with them at halftime.

“From the guys upstairs, that wasn’t. . . they thought it was forward,” Ryans said, via a transcript from the team. “So, I mean, looking back at it, should I have challenged it? Yes. It’s always. . . you look back, hindsight is always 20/20, so you’re looking back like, ‘Should I throw the challenge?’ Maybe, throw it there. So, I look at myself, too, like I wish I would’ve thrown it there just to force them to make a decision.”

Ryans is 2-for-5 on challenges in his career, including 0-for-2 this year.

I feel like most coaches have losing records on challenges. If anything I feel like Demeco has a better % record than most.

Winning a challenge is hard because you don't want to challenge innocuous stuff even if it's wrong but the referees also won't overturn anything unless it's incredibly blatantly clearly wrong and even then they still sometimes don't.

Challenge accepted: NFL head coach challenge recordsecords

Obviously they got outcoached.

John Harris said "one person" & mentioned Tytus Howard. But if you watch the clip, especially from this view you can see it would be impossible for Tytus Howard to make that block from where they lined up. The one person, I think, in this play is Shaq. He's got to punch that DT lined up over him to give Tytus the time to get over & make that block... Then yeah, that's a TD.

Then GreenBay would have to go the length of the field to score a TD to win.

I hope the coaching staff at Kirby took notice of the coaching on the other sideline last Sunday. They weren't just out coached, they were schooled.
Playing against quality coaching should be learning opportunities for our young coaching staff.
I hope they are smart enough to pick up on what the Packers were doing - especially on defense - their Dline made our Oline look like rank amateurs.
Having a weapon like CJ Stroud with only 89 yards in the air is totally unacceptable.

This is what is bothers me about the zone blocking in this situation. Why are they concerned about LBs 5 yards off the LOS? Block the defensive linemen and let Mixon deal with the LBs. Positive gains make 3rd down much easier for Stroud.

The Packers were running a similar defense as the Vikings were using. They can expect to see these type defenses much more often until they figure things out.

How long have the Packers been working in that system?

This was the guy I wanted to see the team draft. Kyle Hamilton would have been the perfect big safety in the middle. I also wanted Lions ILB- Jack Campbell in the 2023 draft as well. I believe if the Texans have Campbell and Hamilton….the defense is amazing. Hamilton could’ve been drafted, but Campbell’s stock shot up higher than I expected….was a little shocked when the Lions took him at 17. I was hoping he would’ve slid to RD2, then Caserio could’ve traded up to get him. I like Scruggs, but I’m not sure I wouldn’t have liked Campbell more if he was a Texan.

I feel our Oline may need a new coaching style. We have 5 of them on the field just like any other NFL team and they are talented guys just like other NFL lines.
You watch the Chiefs or the 49ers and they seem to be able to plug virtually any half talented RB in there and they have success.
The same could be said of the Patriots during the Brady era.
Our line would be absolutely the worst in the league without it's top tier RB (Mixon).
So for me, it most likely comes down to the coaching of that line.
Thoughts?
