Texans random thought of the day

I agree with you but at the same time I remember times when even scoring 3 FGs on the first 3 drives 2 games in a row would have been unheard of. Much less 2 FGs & a TD.

Against the Bears we had at least 4 times the Texans really shot themselves in the foot on plays that could have changed the game.

1. Had a punt return out to the 50 called back to the 14 yard line because of holding.
2. Lassiter interception nullified because of defensive holding.
3. Akers fumble inside the 5 yard line.
4. Stroud runs for a first down with 1:57 left in the game. Called back for illegal hands to the face. Results in a punt which gave the Bears a chance to score. Credit our defense for stopping them..

The Texans have outplayed both opponents this year but too many self inflicted wounds have let them hang around until the end of the game. One thing I can say is both games ended with the Texans in a victory formation so they must be doing something right.

C.J. Stroud explains advice he gave to Caleb Williams
By Mike Florio

In the aftermath of Sunday night’s game between the Bears and Texans, a video emerged of Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud giving advice to Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams. Some had issues with Williams’s apparent lack of interest in receiving advice. Others took issue with Stroud, who is only one month older than Williams, giving Williams advice.

Either way, Stroud explained the situation with reporters on Wednesday.

“I had some of the best advice given to me last year and me and Caleb, I was not trying to treat him like I was trying to ‘little bro’ him or nothing,” Stroud said. “He knows that, too. I have a ton of respect for him. I told him I have respect for him. But I
had so many guys come up to me after games last year and that meant the world to me that those guys even thought about giving me advice. So, I just try to give back to what the game is giving to me. So, I wish him the best.

“I want him to do amazing in this league. I think he will. I think that he’ll get his groove and once you get your rhythm, I didn’t get my rhythm until like Week 3, Week 4. So, I can see his game picking up from here. I don’t think he was trying to be any towards of way, he was just upset that they lost. I totally understand. I have a ton of respect for that guy. I want him to do extremely well just like any other guy until we play on that day. And after the game, we can be cool. But I’m definitely rooting for him and want to see him do extremely well.”

Whatever the situation, both guys knew or should have known the cameras and microphones were on. And reasonable minds can and will differ on the interpretation of what they saw and heard.

Was Williams properly showing respect? Was it disrespectful for Stroud to act like the age and experience gap is far bigger than it is?

The message to all players is clear. When you show up for work, assume that anything and everything you say and do will be recorded. And people will interpret things you say and do however they want, if you create any room for misinterpretation.

The hands to the face penalty was unnecessary.

5th, Dell's drop of a TD pass.

This is pretty random but I keep hearing about Brian Daboll being on the hot seat in New York, which is likely true.

That said if he's fired he is the guy I want to replace Slowik if Slowik gets a head coaching gig this offseason.

I know Jerrod Johnson is the likely favourite to be the next OC and while I wouldn't be upset with giving him the opportunity, bringing in a proven great offensive mind like Daboll gives us the opportunity of having what a lot of the great offensive head coaches have. That is having your offense ironed down with great coaching and your defense as well with less fear of losing that coaching because of previous failures.

Some more positive stats.

Stroud hasn't been picked off since Week 11 of last season (10/15/2023 against the Saints). He's gone nine straight starts (including playoffs) without an INT, which is the longest active streak in the league. He owns a 29:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio (including playoffs).

Nico Collins is leading the league in receiving yards with 252 Yds.

The Texans defense is in the top five in yards per game (254.0; 3rd), interception rate (5.36%; 4th), sacks recorded per pass attempt with nine on 56 (16.07%; 1st) and first downs allowed per game (14.5; 4th).

According to 610 (did not verify) last year the Texans were second in the league in missed tackles with 7.6 per game. This year so far only 5 total missed tackles in 2 games.

** Edit to add Fairbairn stats **

30-year-old Fairbairn is the first player in NFL history with multiple games of three field goals from 50-plus, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Dating to last season, Fairbairn has made 34 of 35 tries.

is that missed tackles stat on our offense or defense?

Is this related to the lawsuit you're speaking of? https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdtx/pr/rodeo-and-nrg-park-resolve-ada-violations
Or are there additional violations?
I wouldn’t really know but I don’t think so. The National Associaltion for the Deaf (NAD) is the plaintiff and HLSR is not named. It either already has been filed or it is pending. I saw them post about it about a year ago after failed attempts to resolve it amicably. Four stadiums were named. NRG is the only one who -had- captions previously and then they removed it when they increased the scoreboard. Or added seats. I don’t remember but it was removed when they renovated the stadium several years ago.

Laremy Tunsils definitely needs to attend ALL training from now on until he can approve he doesn't need it any further.
No more mulligans when you mess up like he is right now.

If Tunsil is so good, shouldn't he be able to stand his ground and punish the damn pass rusher? Be the god damn aggressor?

After watching the Bills/Jags game I have a feeling that the Texans will make Lawrence look like a Pro Bowler but still squeak by the Jags for a win then get throttled by the Bills, hope I'm wrong.

The Texans have 28 accepted penalties for 233 yards, ranking third in the NFL behind the Ravens 31 penalties, 278 yards, and the Browns 291 penalties, 212 yards Maybe we can make it to #1 with just a little more effort..................
I was told that Demeco has this team disciplined. The game against the Bears proved the offense is not ready at all. The game against the Colts showed the defense has flaws as well. Too many mistakes on both sides of the ball.

Texans face no discipline for March 2024 cap error from Ka’imi Fairbairn restructuring
By Mike Florio
Published September 24, 2024 01:06 PM

Monday’s internal salary cap report raised eyebrows in some league circles regarding a potential cap violation committed by the Texans. While an error indeed occurred in connection with the March 2024 restructuring of kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn’s contract, the Texans will face no punishment for it.

A new contract signed by Fairbairn on March 11, 2024, changed the final year of the deal from 2027 to 2026. This should have triggered a $399,781 acceleration at the time. It didn’t.

That’s significant because, as of March 11 and March 12, 2024, the Texans had no cap room. The acceleration meant they were over the cap for two days.

Per the league, it’s not a problem because it was missed by the NFL when the Fairbairn contract was signed.
“The contract was properly submitted and reported by the Club but recorded incorrectly by the Management Council,” the NFL said in an email to PFT. “Yesterday’s adjustment to the Club’s Salary Cap corrected the league’s error. At no point was there an attempt to gain a competitive advantage. Given that the Club acted properly, there will be no discipline.”

Earlier this year, the 49ers lost a fifth-round pick and had a fourth-round pick downgraded over a clerical error that resulted in a player being overpaid by $75,000. It’s unclear how the 49ers’ case is different from this one.

We’ve asked the league to explain it. We’ll update the story if/when we get an answer.

Two wide receivers created 3.5 yards of separation and average over 10 targeted air yards in Week: Nico Collins and Ja’Marr Chase. Collins averaged 3.8 yards of separation (tied 17th among all receivers) and 13.5 targeted air yards (10th). Chase averaged 4.0 yards of separation (13th) and 12.2 targeted air yards (16th)
