Here is a question for anyone on the trading down strategy:

What do you do when you don’t have anyone trade down with?

What happens when the compensation you would get to trade down is comparable to the minimum amount you should receive? You would be taking a loss to take that trade.

Do you take the pick or take less? How much less are you willing to take?

Say you're trading down 5 spots in this draft, so you're picking #7. and you really like Green and the ol from NC. State, you're pretty sure one of them will be there. Then you would take less than the chart says and gain more assets and still get the guy you wanted. The trade chart is a guide it's not etched in stone.

If you adhere strictly to the trade chart values, you will occasionally get jumped in the draft like RS did with Jimmy G and Lockett.

In this draft, because it is deep as it is in Top 10, I trade back because it is so deep and because you're rebuilding. Depends on how far you trade back. Top 3 (2) #1s, Top 5 (2) #1 plus, Top 10 (3) #1s. But by any measure Tennessee is an epic FUBAR of grand proportions.

Tennessee is hardly a FUBAR. An AFCCG a playoff appearance and the 2nd best record in the AFC says differently. However I could see them falling off. They're real beat up with injuries to Brown/Jones/Henry and on defense too with their CB's and Dupree. We will see if they can get somewhat healthy come playoff time.

How many offensive plays or defenses did he call? As a File Clerk and a scout what were his responsibilities for the game plan? I'm sure if the article pointed out he was wearing headphones they would've explained the reason for wearing them. Maybe he was just listening to Bruce Springsteen?

It's really way to early to get into details, but I'm committed to building our interior line. Throw the rules out.

I've seen Green ranked on early boards from #25 to #8. If Green ends up a top 10, and he might, and I can't wrangle a trade down, I'm biting the bullet and taking him. If he ends up closer to #25, I'll go BPA.

A high second and next years #1 is already less than normal value. If I remember correctly without recalculation, about 40 trading points less. I need that high #2 to draft defense. Right now, this is my minimum.

If I'm able to get a high 2nd, then I'm using it and the Saints 3rd to move into the bottom of the 1st and picking Kinnard. This will fix the issues with the IOL with my 2 favorite OG's in this draft. The run game just got alot better as well as pass pro for the next 5 years.

Then Hopefully McCreary will be there at 2-34.

To me the best RB in this draft is Kenneth Walker Michigan St. But I'm not drafting a RB before the 3rd/4th rd. I also like Spiller/Charbonnet/Brooks and Richaad White.

I've got a new tandem idea for the Texans backfield. Breece Hall (Iowa St) is a must and Rachaad White (ASU). White really surprised me with him 2021 stat line. I believe he had 43 receptions this season....for a big back who should be in the mid 4.4-40 on his Pro Day.

I can agree it was dumb to make OB GM. He should have been fired after 51-7.

The biggest damage to the team for me is Watson. We never would have traded Hopkins if it wasn’t for Watson alleged activities off the field.

We traded an extra 1st for Watson.

Watson also said he wanted OB as his coach. Remember when OB was on the hot seat Watson’s rookie year and it was OB vs Rick Smith? Watson came out for OB. Boom. Extension for OB.

Everything goes back to Watson.

The roster was slowly being deflated under O'Brien without being refilled. Players were not being coached up. O'Brien's influence was on the entire organization. He's cussing out fans and players with impunity. There was absolutely no accountability.

Is there really any wonder why Watson thought he was untouchable? His head coach and GM was instrumental in his hubris and arrogance.

O'Brien wanted Easterby here with Cal. Jack was one of the primary voices in the FO to ship Nuk off. And that trade, made by O'Brien/Easterby, still reverberates today.

O'Brien/Easterby behind firing Gaine and Olsen.

Easterby (who is here because of O'Brien) is still heavily influencing player analysis - ongoing - as they must all pass through his 'culture' filter. It has been reported by multiple national sources that approximately 40% of players avoid even talking to the Texans because of the dysfunctional FO with Easterby in any position of power. John McClain recently talked about the Texans having a hard time with free agents because of this mess.

Long after Watson is gone, this franchise will still be dealing with the mess left by HC/GM O'Brien.

Like I said, 1A and 1B. They both suck and have left a wrecked franchise that might take years to rebound.

I hear ya. 3 targets, 3 catches for 14 yards the last 4 games for Moore. Zero targets against Indy. But none of the WRs are doing much of anything.
Nico has 3 catches the last 3 games, 1 target against Indy.
Conley has 0 catches on 4 targets the last 2 games - zero targets against the Jets.
Even Cooks has fallen off.

Good post. It's interesting seeing the performances the first 6 games when they were supposedly going against "good defenses" compared to the last six against "lesser" defenses. It could be that after six games, good DCs have figure out the offense and the lack of adjustments by "who that falls under".

You would think that even with the OL and running game issues, they could get the slot WRs and RBs involved in the quick passing game. You would think.

I know you and @steelbtexan are BIG on Hutchinson. After watching his last 3 games I have some concerns. Hutchinson plays standing up as a 7 or 9 techniques DE. 7 on the weak side, 9 on the strong side. Something you don't see in the NFL. In a handful of snaps, he has lined up as a 5 technique. I don't recall him playing with his hand in the dirt. It seems as though he needs to get a running head start to be effective. As a 5 tech he was not. Discuss.

Has any other player in this draft had a better year than AH?
Some stats - 13 sacks; 14.5 Tfl's; 3 passes defended; 2 forced fumbles. His presence on the opposite side of the line forced many penalties from opposing olinemen trying to stop him or gain an advantage over him. Dominant - a true force to be reckoned with.

They're still thinking their identity is running the ball. Looks like they went away from the stuff they ran in the first 6 quarters. There's no creativity and no routes to help the receivers get separation. Remember we were running beautiful pick plays like every other teams were running.

The Texans could put the #3 pick in a hurry, especially if Caserio poker faced some real interest in QB's Picket or Corral. Teams in the 6 thru 11 spots have a deep need to find a QB which could help Casserio get a nice return.

The logic behind moving an impact defender outside to reduce the chance of a double team. Bringing Hutchinson closer to the ball would allow that. It's not as if even a big time program like Michigan has enough playmakers that everyone can make impact plays with single man blocking.

I thought Thibodeaux should have been moved around more at Oregon. Offenses can scheme an impact defender out of the game in college. Not as easy to do in the NFL.

I had a post in the preseason where I said it was a given that the Texans would be the lowest scoring team in the league. I also compared the Texans to the team with the lowest point total of the past decade, and whether this 2021 offense could score more than the expansion Texans.

It wasn't a well received post.

...however I heard on the radio this morning someone asking if the Texans would be the lowest scoring team in the NFL this year.

Did they also ask if the sky is blue and if water is wet?

Better question would be will they score less than the worst scoring team of the past 10 seasons (2011 Rams 12.06 ppg)? Will they be above the expansion 2002 Texans (13.31 ppg)?

It's unlikely that Detroit gets another win, but they might if the Packers take their last week off. Or they pull off a road upset at Denver, which I doubt.

Houston and Jacksonville play each other, so one of the two gets another win. Jacksonville, unless they beat the Texans, will likely not win any more, and that same thought goes for the Texans as well. The Texans/Jags game is a home game for Jacksonville, so I'll give them the nod.

And after all that, my prediction is the Texans end up with the number two pick in the draft. We shall see.
