This stat appears to have been trending in the wrong direction for 3 years now. I wrote “appears” because I don’t have the stats in front of me but I recall defense 3rd down conversion rate for the Texans to have been bad last year.

Also if my memory is correct someone posted their 2nd and 3rd down defense and both downs have been pretty abysmal this year.

This year, we ranked #31 in the League............last year #25 at 41.49%...............but good for #5 ranking in 2017 at 35.32% and #8 in 2016 at 36.63 %.

It wouldn't be that bad if RAC knew how to call defense in long yardage situations. Guys giving hella cushion to receivers is one major piece that has led to this horrid stat. I mean they practically give opposing teams the room for a 1st down catch.

Didn't realize is was that bad. Pretty isn't the word for it. I don't mind a "make 'em earn it a little at a time if they can", 'bend but don't break' defense on long drives, but once they are in the red zone you have to tighten up your coverage and start gambling.

Texans veteran punter Bryan Anger's three-year, $7.5 million contract includes a $1.25 million signing bonus, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

The deal has $2 million in total guaranteed money for the former Jacksonville Jaguars third-round draft pick.

In 2020, Anger is due a $1.25 million base salary. He has a fully guaranteed $750,000 roster bonus. His salary-cap figure is $2.312 million.

In 2021, Anger has a $2.5 million nonguaranteed base salary and a $2.812 million salary-cap figure.

Indeed an intriguing prospect.................and he has all the qualifications of becoming an Texans speedster receiver...........an ACL his senior year in HS.:D

Why? when he is afforded a decent talent level his defenses are usually top 10. OBrien gets all the talent on his side of the ball this year and his offense was ranked 13th LOL.

RAC is the best coach we have. He's playing a system that limits the mistakes below average players will make. He's been blitzing more, but he doesnt have a single player who can rush the passer consistently. The guys who want those cushions shortened would just be crying a river about the long TDs these below average DBs would be giving up. "keep it in front" is smart with the guys he has.

True, I'm aware of this injury. But it was at the beginning of his Sr year, so he's had his senior year, his red shirt year and two years playing at Penn for recovery.

Other than the minor injury to his head/neck in the Indiana game (possible concussion), I see he played in all 26 games his two seasons.

I did read something that he was very dedicated in his training to returning from his ACL. What caught my attention was part of this training included running hills. Jerry Rice as well as other top receivers and running backs have used this to strengthen their legs and muscles.

So to what extent should drafting him be a concern?

My comment was only meant for humor........not to infer that he has been injury prone. As far as concern for drafting him................only 2 years of college ball...........and in the transition to NFL, his size will definitely place him in potential danger of being a more injury laden player.................track and field speedsters tend to have more soft tissue injuries. Furthermore, NFL receivers who weigh light (~170 pounds) or weigh heavy (~250 pounds) will sustain more injuries in their careers.

Still an intriguing player..........like Fuller.

Reason being his defense has cost us a lot of game over the past three seasons. Getting rid of Clowney and Jackson hurt but even with those guys the defense still gave up chunks yards. This season we have press corners and he still have them playing 10 yards off .

I’m usually in agreement with you. But this defense is just as inconsistent as Bill O’Brien and his offense.

that’s fair. I may be too caught up on the metrics. RAC has blitzed more this year believe it or not, but with no consistent pass rush and underwhelming DBs you really can’t expect too much. Our outside CBs just aren’t good enough to play tight. Never have been.

As I linked yesterday, our defense fell off when we lost Watt. Whether he has another season or two left, we need to address his replacement with one of our top three picks in this next draft.

Our offense drops off when we lose Fuller.

These are our two highest priorities this next offseason.

Made me chuckle. The difference is Payton has shown the ability to scheme his offense around the talent. Look how creative he is with T Hill. You think OB would ever do that?

What I said was it doesn't matter who the HC is DW4 will never win a SB with this style of play. I also said I hope I'm wrong.

Josh Allen had the better day yesterday and I will stand by that.
