Loving the Danielle Hunter signing.
Sounds like he gave Texans a small discount.
He had great stats last season with the Vikings - 16.5 sacks, 80 QB pressures (Greenard got 42) and 23 TFLs.
If Texans get even 90% of that, it will be an upgrade over Greenard. Loved JG, but Hunter is gonna help WA even more with that quota of work plus his experience.

I know he's a homegrown man, but I can't help but think that having CJ might have something to do with it. I think I read somewhere on a Minnesota board that he's chasing a Superbowl, and he wait what...came to the Texans...with a discount...that can't be true...holy crap, it's true. [Still getting over my self-imposed sabbatical due to PTSD]

I believe we have a chance, even with a tough schedule as we will be tough too.
The pieces are coming together nicely for the D and I think our offense will be good too.
The receiver corp should be enough with Collins, Dell, Brown, Woods, Hutch and Metchie. The last two not so much until they prove otherwise.
Then add Schultz, Jordan and Mixon. That should provide Slowik with plenty of variation on his passing attack.
It would be nice to find another nice Back to help Mixon - like a shifty scat back to add variety to the ground game.
The Defense just needs to resign Nelson, Rankins and Maliek and add a good Safety and we will be very competitive.
I think that shopping list is very doable so let's get er done Nick!

Would need someone who is better with the cap than myself to explain but doesn't trading Collins cost more to us than just keeping him? According to overthecap he would have a 16 million $ cap hit which is almost $3 more than what his normal cap hit would be.

In Overthecap.com, all the way to the right, Deadmoney & Cap Savings, you have a selection to make, which default at least for me, is Cut (pre-June1). You need to open this and select Trade (pre-June 1). Do this and now you have a cap savings of $3,470,588.

I don't know, but a trade would have ramifications on the other team, as well. So everything concerning the cap would have to work out for all parties.
 
So the Collins trade make me think that something is in the works. At first I thought it could be Arik Armstrong but he seems too similar to Autry. Now I'm wondering if maybe DJ Reader might take a discount to come home. We could still use a big run stopper to rotate with Foley.

With Readers injury I would reconsider. He's not a spring chicken anymore and coming back from that injury to play at a high level....is probably unlikely...but Im not a medical professional...yet.

No one team will want that many 7th round picks. But they can be traded to multiple teams. In 2020, Bill O'Brien was able to get rid of 3 7th round picks. First, O'Brien was able to move up 10 spots in the 4th round using a couple of 7th rounders. The Rams had traded away many picks for players and needed bodies. Next, O'Brien moved his last 7th round pick to the Saints for a 2021 6th round pick. Sean Payton used the 7th round pick on a guy he thought could be the next Taysom Hill, Mississippi State QB Tommy Stevens.

So I see Nick moving 2 or 3 of these 7th rounders. But not to one team.

I was joking, however, you stated that he could trade those four seventh rounders for depth and special team. Why wouldn't another team want to do the same?

The pertinent question is which players did the Texans get with these moves? Were they productive players? Did they make any impact? If not, O'Brien was making moves just to make moves. "Look at me!! I'm making moves!!!".

The move up in the 4th round garnered Andy Heck. The Saints 6th was used in a Caserio trade, and ended up with the Bills. Who took Damar Hamlin. The Texans moved up in the 5th (twice) and took Garret Wallow.

That would depend on the tenure the FA has. It depends on how many years the vet FA has been in the league. The answer would typically be yes, the 7th rounder is cheaper.

Minimum salaries
Rookie: $795,000
1 Year: $915,000
2 Years: $985,000
3 Years: $1.055 million
4-6 Years: $1.125 million
7+ Years: $1.21 million

This does not take into account an allocated bonus cap cost.

Overthecap.com shows $10 million in dead money from trading Collins. His voidable years bonus allocations came due with the trade.
 
Heck re-signed. He missed most of last season with a back injury starting on PUP. Then when healthy they briefly benched Fant and had Heck start ahead of him.

He did not play well last season but the organization must like him. His contract is for a swing OT and he is not guaranteed a starting spot. Will be a good value if he gets healthy and improves with another year in system. Have to bring 90 to camp.

The Texans drafted Heck in the fourth round in 2020 and he has been with them since. Through four seasons Heck has played in 41 games with 21 starts....
