Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

AR is a man among boys. He is a very rare athlete. Pitre is not the only victim that AR will run over like a Mack truck.

My thing is how sustainable is it? AR has a long and lengthy injury history. He’s a shooting star who might flame out at any time.
A TALL player with hefty upper body has greater torque on his hip and lower extremity joints when he gets tackled. He has a longer distance to fall with upper body weight causing greater impact to shoulders. These type of players may be more difficult to bring down, but when they are brought down, their durability tends to be exposed.

This is true, it's why I have permanently retired from skiing. (Good thing I wore a helmet or I'd have a gravesite somewhere on the mountains near Park City, Utah. ☠️)

I believe Mills has finally settled into his roll as QB2. He actually spent the game not wearing his helmet on the sideline. If I was Mills, I’d keep taking an annual Texans contract until I had season with enough successful playing time to garner a better opportunity and contract from another team. That would be a smart career and business decision.

There's nothing wrong with being Chase Daniel.

Mills is better off with a Chase Daniel career. Collecting checks and hardly ever playing before somebody figures out he’s not good.

there are maybe 12 "good" QBs in a league that employs a minimum of 64 QBs. I'm pretty sure "somebody" knows he isn't in the group of 12.
He's obviously a career backup but I still think there are teams out there that would have him on their team.
I can think of one that would have him as a starter.

I think 12 is a little harsh. Here is a list of who I would consider a good QB:

Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Burrow, Stroud, Herbert, Purdy, Stafford, Goff, Love, Rodgers, Tua, Hurts, Prescott

That's 14 right here. I do believe every one of them can take you to a Super Bowl. And then we have the fringe guys, that probably also can, if everything goes right:

Baker, Kyler, Carr, Cousins, Geno, Trevor

That's 20 QBs all in all. I do believe that the quality of the QBs in the league went up in the past 5 years (at least the amount of good QBs).

Couldn't find the Azeez thread so figured I'd ask here.

What's everyone's thought on his punch and what do we think the verdict is going to be? I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a game for that. Dumb move but it happens, tough to be cool and calm in a situation where you're swarmed by opps like that.

When do we think we'll here about what the resulting punishment will be?

I think he’s gonna be fined a decent amount but no suspension. DeMeco and the defense needs to buy him his meals for a week for not coming to his defense quick enough. He was all alone out there in enemy toerritory for too long.

Yeah, very volatile situation league needs to address not with fines or suspension’s but conduct on sidelines accountability, respect especially of non-combatants & staffers who need to defuse not escalate. We have no idea of what was said or done to Azeez in scrum, we only saw ending.

The MRI on Mixon was supposed to be today. Surprised we have not received any results.

Edit: I tried to post in injury discussion and jumped to player transactions discussion. Mod please move.

I expected a flag and an ejection.

There was a lot of chippy play on both sides. They got under Nico's skin and the way Al-shaair had been playing, it looked like someone had said or done something to him at some point in the game. He was looking to scrap.

I expect a fine and a possible suspension.

With all that said, I like the juice and the attitude, I just think he needs to be a bit smarter about it.

The Texans have worked out Scott Quessenberry.........................may herald what they think about their centers..............Quessenberry was beyond horrible at center for us.

Juice is banged up, but had a very good first game. Patterson was meh at best as the backup. Just doing some DD in case the health situation gets worse. I wouldn't read too much into it personally.

Apparently Scott has been added to the PS. Still think we're miles away from Scott actually playing on offense as I'd imagine they'd use Pattersson and Green (Kendrick) before ever turning to Scott at C.

Agree, can't read too much into it. But Juice has an adductor tear which is a notoriously easy to re-injure soft tissue injury. But I still don't understand Q even on the PS. He did not even look serviceable during his last stint here.

It's possible they're going to devil you know approach with depth (even if I don't agree with that approach) or he does some things they like for scout team or he's just a vet that's a good teacher for the young o-lineman.

.........................Or that it's just a poor wasted decision.............

It probably means Scruggs is going to be out for a few weeks.
As I previous posted, an adductor tear is a problem that could haunt him during this season, despite how the Texans have framed it. Not playing in the Bears game simply "precaution.".................riiiight.............

  • HOUSTON – Texans starting center Juice Scruggs is not slated to play against the Chicago Bears due to a groin injury, according to league sources. Although Scruggs’ injury isn’t regarded as serious or long-term, the Texans are taking precautions and holding him out of a Sunday night game days after he got hurt in practice. LINK

Is it safe to say that they're going to elevate JJ Taylor before Sunday's game against MIN? Pierce has a hammy and Mixon has a "Dear Lord don't let this be long term" ankle injury.

Between these injuries and Juice being out, if there was a prop bet for HOU total running yards, Vegas would go out of business.

Maybe but we should also remember British Brooks is still more RB than he is FB and with him they still have essentially 3 with Akers, Ogunbuwale, and Brooks. Obviously it's not an ideal scenario, but one where they don't necessarily need 4 for the game.

I'm assuming because of his time with McConnell that Irv Smith should be fairly familiar with this system and verbage that we could use him on Sunday. Hopefully we can. Only having 2 TEs is tough and Schultz was doubtful for last Sunday so who knows what his situation really is and for as much as we all love Stover he's still just a rookie and is fairly new to the position of TE as well.

I was wondering if we'd even bring Beck back as a depth TE because he knows the system ad I'm pretty sure he's just hanging out on the GB practice squad.

I think Brooks could fit in as a RB on some downs, but from what I've heard from Cody Stoots and Landry Locker, Brooks doesn't meet/practice with the RBs. I believe our staff can coach up most players (which is something that I think that us Texans fans underrate, because we've never really had that before). I'm not itching to see Brooks trying to protect CJ. That's a tall order for someone who is a rookie and a huge wager on his success. We can overcome injuries at most positions, but if CJ is out for the year or most of it, we're dust.
