Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

I like it.

Solid backup and extends the timeline by a year of deciding what to do at back up qb. Maybe Mills ends up signing for longer if theres not much of a market for his services.

Seems like teams are more willing to take swings on qbs early and let them play rather than bring in vets like mills to be a stop gap.
I could see Mills signing for another year this off-season with a !0% raise and go year to year like this. He's a smart guy, if he stays with the Texans doing 1 yr deals from yr to yr for the next 10 yrs will make him around 60-65 mil in career earnings and he wont even have to play a meanigful down for the Texans hopefully. Mills is a smart man.

Any thoughts on the Mills extension?
Love it.

Gives us the best stability we could have gotten for the backup QB position and from his camp and preseason it looked like Mills made some really good strides progress wise.

Was surprised Mills made that choice. I thought he'd go somewhere where he could at least have a chance at starting. Maybe he's really enjoying this coaching staff and is enjoying his first moments of franchise stability.

Not familiar with him but he’s played for the Jaguars and Giants. He’s 6’5” and 261#’s. Says he’s a TE and FB. Brooks backup?
Myarick bounced around on PSs since 2019..................mostly playing STs.................his only real game position experience was in 2022 with the Giants. During that year, he was basically used as a pass-catching TE. He is far from the classic size of an NFL FB.....................6'1" and 248#. British Brooks is 5'11" and 225#.

Quitoriano is 6'6" and 258#.

After watching Jordan Love go down and them not really having anyone to turn to makes me even more thankful for this.
And Mills is someone to turn to??
He might be good for a spot start here or there, but he's not doing anything for this team if they've got to rely on him for multiple games. Amazing the love this below average, mediocre at best, QB gets.

I think Mills can get at least .500 wins with the weapons here and I believe the Packers are in tough with Malik Willis yes.

In fact I think the Packers WISH they had a Mills on their roster right now.

Yes and he's bad.

Like if someone thinks Mills is bad watch some Willis tape if you want to see what bad really looks like.

Malik is from my alma mater and I root for him to succeed, but it really is rooting against all hope. Another great college QB who didn't have a translatable game.

Meh, I think he can be relied on to hand the ball off.

I believe Mills has finally settled into his roll as QB2. He actually spent the game not wearing his helmet on the sideline. If I was Mills, I’d keep taking an annual Texans contract until I had season with enough successful playing time to garner a better opportunity and contract from another team. That would be a smart career and business decision.

There's nothing wrong with being Chase Daniel.

one mans garbage & all that.

I'm not impressed with Willis since he's been in the league, but they traded for him. Suggests to me they're higher on him than I am... Lile they think he's their backup QB.

Can you clarify what you mean?
The slot WR didn't hurt the Texans. Heck, the CB play didn't hurt the Texans. The Colts only completed 9 passes.

The safety play needs to improve. King plays the slot CB position not the S position.

Another thing that needs to improve is Petrie's tackling, but this sounds a lot like a broken record. It is what it is and Petrie, while serviceable isn't the star level prospect he was drafted to be. Thanks Lovie.

I thought petrie did a fairly good job w/ the exception of trying to take AR15 on high at the goal line...other than not going low on that one...i had no complaints

He whiffed on another big run by Richardson as well. Tackling is an issue for him.
I don’t think tackling is an issue, he’s made a lot tackles. It’s the business decisions when attempting to tackle bigger players than him. Richardson is a big boy, and Pitre didn’t want any parts of him. That’s why he got ran over for that touchdown. The one he whiffed on, closed eyes and trying to tackle him around the ankles. Lol

There wasn't a slot WR that went off. Those huge plays came against the starting corners and the safeties in zone coverage. King would have had NO positive effect in that game
Unless they plan on playing King at safety which is a position they had him taking snaps at in preseason.

Either way King turned down the practice squad deal.

Tackling has been an issue since he’s arrived. He’s instinctive and always around the ball… but he misses a lot of tackles.

If we can get Jimmie Ward’s tackling skills transferred to Pitre he’d be an all pro.

AR is a man among boys. He is a very rare athlete. Pitre is not the only victim that AR will run over like a Mack truck.

My thing is how sustainable is it? AR has a long and lengthy injury history. He’s a shooting star who might flame out at any time.
Yep. Who was the Texans DB last year that ended his season?

All true. Intriguing prospect, certainly worth gamble (4th overall) with a brilliant play caller in Steichen who was OC for Chargers when Justin Herbert was a rookie and arguably had his best season.

Texans will have to, sooner than later, plug Bullock in @ starting FS. Other teams saw what AR did and will stretch secondary out. Texans outplayed Indy in every aspect, expect secondary and barely held on to win by two points.

CB Jeff Okudah to IR. DE Rashad Weaver elevated from PS.

CBs Desmond King and Troy Pride signed to practice squad. S Mark Perry released from PS.

Adding Weaver to the active roster tells me they are concerned about DE depth with Anderson’s ankle. Also with Autry on suspension.

Adding King/Pride gives them guys they can elevate from the PS and take Okudah’s snaps. King isn’t who i’d want as backup outside CB but i’ll take his tackling ability on ST and in the snaps he might get on defense.
