I don't hire my QB to run the ball, I have a RB for that. My QB makes big money for passing the ball.
There's a reason that QB's make so much more money than RB's
ExactlyLol, c'mon jb you hire the RB to run the ball...but you're not gonna balk at him being able to catch 60-100 balls out of the backfield are you? Moving the chains is moving the chains.
& whose saying he can't pass the ball? Who has he had to throw to the last few years outside of Mark Andrews?
Hollywood Brown? bust
Rashad Bateman? bust
Devin Duvernay? 3rd WR AT best
Andy Isabella..Lol

Looks to me that Texans like both BY and CJS - and Will Anderson. Still hard to predict.Trading the #2 pick for a QB would have made more sense in a draft like 2022, when there were no rookie QB options available. 2023 has two viable rookie QBs. We've already seen the 1st overall pick go for 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and a very good player. The #2 pick has similar value. Lamar Jackson can be had for 2 firsts (plus the massive contract). A sign and trade for Jackson only makes sense post draft. And you're not taking the #2 pick in that scenario, you're trading out.
The Texans are in the position to take a QB they likely feel will be at Jackson's level, at least. For a much smaller contract. A Jackson trade makes more sense for a team like the Colts, that don't have the surefire rookie QB option. And I doubt they would make a pre-draft deal, either.

It means something. I don't know if that something makes up the difference between 5 years, $60 million and 5 years, $260 million.Bird in the hand and all that jazz. I'm not advocating the Texans should trade the Ravens the #2 pick for Lamar or whatever you were saying...in fact i am strongly against that..but Jackson has already done it, vs any of these young kids coming out....& that has to account for something.

So we're up to saying he wants 260 million now huh?![]()

Played a full season.
Well, not lately, but he has done it before...
2018Has he?
2018
No, I didn't know you (I stress you!) were talking about as a starter. I just answered a questionThat's just being argumentative. You know very well we are talking about as a starting QB. He didn't start until Game 10 after Flacco got hurt.
In the four full seasons as a starter, he has missed almost 20% of the games.

Won the MVP , took the Ravens to the playoffs without any true weapons at receiver or in the back field. His only weapon was a tight end.Done what exactly?

To be fair, in the MVP 2019 season Mark Ingram was a 1,000+ yard rusher and had 10 total TD's on the season. He clearly didn't have a stud WR but he did have a stud RB that season. Take away Lamar's rushing yards and the Ravens still finish 7th in rushing offense that year.
The Ravens backup RB, Gus Edwards, had a higher ypc than Ingram (5.3 to 5.0) in 2019. Jackson was the straw that stirred the #1 rushing attack's drink.Me thinks Ingram was eating as good as he was b/c of Jackson..

A RB that can throw 36 TD passes is a nice thing to have.Jackson had a remarkable year in 2019...
He's a hell of a rb
If it wasn't for the draft capital that the Ravens would require, I'd be advocating for Jackson to the Texans. He's a dynamic player and would easily be the best QB in the AFC South. Texans would probably win the division this year if he stayed healthy.
Price tag (IMO) is just too steep for anyone not named Pat Mahomes. lol
Remind me. How many playoff games did the Ravens win in the 2019 season? How many points did that amazing QB score in the playoffs? Did he play in the playoffs the last 2 seasons? Did he play more than 12 games the last 2 seasons?Lol
2019 rushing #’s:
Jackson- 176 rushes 1209 6.9 ypc 7 TD’s
Ingram - 202 rushes 1018 5.0 ypc 10 TD’s
don’t know if you can call Ingram a “stud” if he got out-rushed by his own qb in every possible aspect of rushing…. except TD’s. Me thinks Ingram was eating as good as he was b/c of Jackson..not b/c their attack or Ingram was that good. Defenses had to give up something & Ingram was the guy they chose to ignore while they concentrated on trying to contain Jackson.
taking away his rushing numbers & them still being a a top 10 rushing team makes light of just how explosive Jackson was/is & its the negative way to look at it. The positive way to look at it is Adding in his rushing numbers pushes them up 7 slots to the #1 rushing team in the league that year.
Kid was amazing that year & Y’all outta be ashamed of yourselves for trying to downplay an MVP & 1st team all pro season.
Lol

I was pointing out that a 1,000 yard rusher was on the team and that the RB's by themselves would have finished 7th in the league. That is not an insult to Jackson or downplaying his status. It is simply a fact. They were a very good rushing team without him. They were a freaking great rushing team with him.
It's amazing to me that for not having anyone to throw to, it would mean that the defenses were constantly in the box to stop any runs, regardless of who had the ball. Which means as a TEAM they were damn good at running the ball. Two of the offensive linemen were All Pro that season, three were selected to Pro Bowl and Mark Ingram went to the Pro Bowl.
And none of that takes away from Jackson having an MVP season.
It isn't an either/or situation and as much as you accuse everyone of downplaying him, you make it sound like he was out there leading XFL scrubs to an 13-2 record that season.
Shame he doesn't keep that up every yearA RB that can throw 36 TD passes is a nice thing to have.
RB's typically have a 4-5 year shelf life - do running QB's also reduce their shelf life by being runners? He didn't finish 2/5 seasons he played and those 2 are the last 2 seasons.
Do we think owners and GM's are going to see that and not think he has a durability risk?
RB's typically have a 4-5 year shelf life - do running QB's also reduce their shelf life by being runners?
Logic would suggest yes.
The same logic would also seem to apply to often sacked ones.
Me also.I would think so. I am usually leery about running QB's, especially if they are too quick to run.
Its ok to throw the ball away sometimes.

That is the instinctual college style of play coming through.
As soon as they lose their read/s, they take off and smart DC's are all too aware of that tactic so they scheme their defenses to cover their known main reads and force them off script.
He doesn't take near the pounding a running back willOwners, HC and GM's are 2 faced. You can't build a team around a guys' ability to run the ball or fail to adequately support him with effective protection or even encourage a guy to play injured and then use that against him when its time to pay.
You guys might have a valid point..................if he was hurt these last 2 seasons running the ball...but he wasn't.
Great so he is an injury concern even when he's not running. How will that make a GM feel better?Owners, HC and GM's are 2 faced. So, the Ravens had three stud RB’s. Nice! I hope we hit on another RB in this draft to pair with Pierce and Singletary! Maybe we too can make the playoffs like the Ravens did with a three headed monster ground attack. The Ravens backup RB, Gus Edwards, had a higher ypc than Ingram (5.3 to 5.0) in 2019. Jackson was the straw that stirred the #1 rushing attack's drink.
Long reported to have offered Jackson $133MM fully guaranteed, the Ravens proposed the former MVP a deal with $175MM in total guarantees. The $42MM injury guarantee would have shifted to a full guarantee early over the course of the contract, Albert Breer of SI.com reports. An additional $25MM — present in the fourth year of the contract — would have become guaranteed in Year 3 of the deal, Breer adds. Overall, that 2022 offer topped $290MM over six years. The $175MM in total guarantees would have topped Russell Wilson ($165MM) for second in the league.
Ravens Offered Lamar Jackson $175MM In Total Guarantees; Deal No Longer On Table
Assuming it's legit, this looks on the surface like a pretty fair offer..
That team was 14-2. They scored 12 points in a playoff game. How many playoff games has Lamar won? 1. "The best ability is availability". The last 2 seasons he wasn't available for 5 games each season and 1 playoff game last season. I don't care if he got injured running, passing, or hopping up and down on one foot. I am not giving him a fully gauranteed contract. I can see giving him a front loaded contract with a ton of money. He doesn't want that. He wants a Watson contract. Every cent gauranteed with no way out for the team if he keeps getting hurt and playing 12 games a season. Every single team can get away from their QB after 3-4 years without an outlandish cap hit. Except 1.Sure, right after you tell me how many rushing yards the Baltimore defense gave up to Derrick Henry and who Jackson had to throw the ball too b/c clearly u didnt watch that game and you don’t understand what the Ravens roster had outside of Lamar.
You also clearly haven’t put together that without Lamar doing what he did these last 2 years in the games he actually did play in, which by his standards were sub par, the Ravens most likely aren’t close to making the playoffs. Their offense for a while has been him and a bunch a jags. He doesn’t have an Andy Reid or Kyle Shanahan that can carry him with great, creative playcalling. He doesn’t and has never had a legitimate #1 WR.
And you do realize that the last few years he’s been hurt, he was hurt IN THE POCKET, not running right? IOW’s, the injuries that sidelined him could’ve happened to your favorite prototypical pocket passer. His “style of play” had zilch to do with it; which makes what Arthur Blank said look even more silly.
Lol my goodness.
