I can live with it, but I think I would have rather had Mack.

Sure hope we get this QB thing sorted out.......

Sorry Evan, but no way either Clowney or Mercilus plays SOLB

Awefully quite here. Usually after a pick this place goes crazy. What`s the matter? We just got a player that scouts considered the best defender in the country for the last 3 years...

I think everyone's quiet because this pick was not surprising.

Jadeveon vs JJ Watt combine results: why wasn't everyone all over Watt's nuts the same way they are Clowney's?

Clowney: 4.53 forty, 21 reps bench, 37.5" vertical, 124" broad, 7.27 three cone drill, 4.43 twenty yard shuttle

Watt: 4.84 forty, 34 reps bench, 37" vertical, 120" broad, 6.88 three cone drill, 4.21 twenty yard shuttle

We didn't even know we were getting Watt. Nobody expected it. Most also didn't like it at first.

Jadeveon Clowney is healthy now isn't he? He's been working out like a beast for the past few months. He ran a 4.53 forty-yard dash with bone spurs?

You can do virtually anything with bone spurs for a short period of time......but they don't go away. He was basically resting since the end of the season up to the Combine. If those spurs are not addressed, the trauma of a full schedule WILL affect his performance.

It's going to be interesting to see what Crennel does and what he expects.
It's going to be fascinating to see how he works both Clowney & JJ into his "base" 2-gap, 3-4 configuration. But this is the pick thay had to make assuming there was not a QB they felt was worth the 1.1.

They've had plenty of time to figure out how to incorporate him into the defense.

I'm just wondering if they're going to have Mercilus in a rotation with him or if they're going to try to move Mercilus.

Great opportunity to get an elite level player, very happy with the selection. Watt and Clowney look to be potentially the best defensive line in football, love it.

I am sure you have answered this before, but I forget; if Clowney gets the surgery tomorrow, when can we expect him to be on the field?

Mack might fall to Atlanta. What if we flipped Clowney to Atlanta now that we know Mack is gonna be there for us?

I came to grips with the fact that the Texans would not take the guy I wanted a long time ago (Watkins), so I don't have any strong feelings about it either way. I can definitely see the upside, though. Watt and Clowney may end up being one helluva duo, and Mercilus can be a specialist.

I voted thumbs up. Was never sold on any of these QBs being worth a #1 pick.

This from a previous post may help at least give you something to hang your hat on:

For those interested, if Clowney has his surgery right after the Draft, depending on how extensive the surgery required is on the bone spurs, his return to running could be anywhere from 6-8 weeks. But expectations for him to be back to full speed with great explosiveness and ability to make sudden changes of speed and direction could easily be from 2-3 months (again depending on the extent of his surgery). If he agrees to have surgery (and I would not pick him if he didn't), he will still have the benefit of a full TC to participate in the system, and be ready at full go for the regular season, barring any complications.

And this was in response to potential complications:

Without knowing the numbers or extent, probably anywhere as an average from 3% to 7%. However, depending on the source of the bone spur forming, such as an/the underlying arthritic condition, or the development of chronic nerve irritation/trauma........continuing chronic, possibly progressive pain is fairly common......in as many as 50%. However, it is the extent of continuing pain and tenderness that would dictate if it has significant effect on performance. Keep in mind that bone spurs do not go away or get better, nor does the underlying pathology, such as arthritis or plantar fasciitis........it will only get worse with time.........making surgery less predictable. Also there are no assurances that more bone spurs don't show up in the future. Clowney would probably have been much wiser to have addressed the bone spur(s) as they emerged, much earlier in his football career.

I hope this isn't the draft and trade to NE for Mallett rumor I've been hearing about!!! :chef:

Come on Thorn, you're experienced enough to know that a first round draft pick and a pick 6 by a Texans QB leads to an extreme spike in 'new recruits' to the board.

And that is why Cak and the mod-squad get to use the TexansTalk corporate jet - it's hard work holding back the 10,000 unemployed GMs we'll have visiting tonight! :pirate:

We should all just hang out in the Tailgate section and name our draft discussion thread "Compromising Photos of Bill" - no-one will ever think of looking for us all in there!

Actually, not a bad idea.

Wait............. What, which "Bill"????

I hope they drafted him to trade. If not, it's the same thing as giving up without a fight. Grade D for this pick.
