same thing Aaron Rodgers did, sit behind a Hall of Fame QB and learn....
worked out well in Green Bay, could work out here in Houston...
i see the "Upside" everyone has "Upside". My point is now we have 4 back up QBs. All i want is a "OK" starter !
How many back up QBs does it take to make 1 starter. I guess we're gonna find out....

You really aren't comparing Mallet to Aaron Rodgers are you? Texans aiming for that number one pick again this year. Winston or Mariota.
Is anyone really shocked ?

as well you shouldn't but if he turns out to work, then it was a genius move. If not, no sweat just a 6th round pick
I like the trade. Mallet has a ton of talent and he sat behind Brady - for a 6th I am very willing to take that gamble.
I hate the timing. We have gone through all of camp and preseason without him. Time in which he could've learned the system, get comfortable with his teammates and time for us to to find out, if he is worth playing.
Right now we have to start Fitz. And I don't know how long it will take, until Mallet would be ready - and when he is ready, we need to be willing to make a change at QB. And this also means, that we probably won't give Savage a chance at some games at the end of the season.
I don't get the timing at all - what good does he do us now?

You really think the system OB is running is that far removed from the Pats?I like the trade. Mallet has a ton of talent and he sat behind Brady - for a 6th I am very willing to take that gamble.

And I liked Billy saying even after Thursday nights disaster in NRG for both
Ksonum and Savage that he was all but positive that the 3 QBs on the roster would remain unchanged. Looks like Billy can also play that hand close to the vest, huh ?
You really think the system OB is running is that far removed from the Pats?
I'd venture to say he's instantly the most experienced QB for the system on our roster.

^^^ This.
He comes in having played in this offense for 3 years and studying it with Tom Brady.
And he was drafted by the Patriots when OB was the OC... which means that OB probably had a big say in the Patriots drafting him in the first place. Then OB spent a year with him before moving on to Penn State.
They're saying now that it's a CONDITIONAL 6.
From what I'm hearing sounds like pick Pats receive from Texans for Mallett maxes out at a 6 based on performance. Could be less
Not that i'm hyped about this trade but it will be interesting to see who the texans start next week. I wouldnt put it past O'brien to name Mallett the starter since he is obviously very high on the kid.

any word if there's a contraction extension for Mallett involved? god, i hope not.
O'Brien had then-Pats offensive assistant George Godsey work extensively with Mallett that rookie year. Godsey is now Texans QB coach.
On Ryan Mallet to Texans, Bill O'Brien worked majority of time w Tom Brady & Brian Hoyer in '11, his last year with Pats and Mallett's first
That add's a little to the pucker factor, but even though I'm not up to speed on Mallet, I find I'm still pretty good with today's events. I mean, ANYTHING that changes the situation at QB is a good thing and if the price is fair I'm cool with it.

Oh good lord. Why? What the hell has Mullet got over what we already have? He's not an improvement over the crap we already have at QB, and we're giving up a draft choice for him?
This is stupid. I totally disagree with this move. Especially this late.
Terms: The #Texans traded a 2016 conditional 7th round pick for #Patriots QB Ryan Mallett, source said.
And the Mallett draft choice is for 2016
Pick for Mallett looks like a conditional choice that will be a 7th unless he plays 40% of the snaps for Houston, which would make it a 6th
Asking price, I'm sure. 'Why over pay for a mediocre QB', is the new mantra post Schaub.Just wondering why this didn't get done sooner? I'm happy that it happened because thes. QBs weren't taking the Texans anywhere.
Look on the bright side,,,,,,,,,,,,,keep looking,,,,,,,keep looking yeah it's pretty dark in here.

Thinking a 7th that could turn into a 6th.

so you are ok with 3 QBs who are just learning O'Brein's system this year rather have a young kid that has been in the same system for the last 3 years and sat behind arguably on of the greatest QBs in the history of the game?
alright....BUT Mallet already knowing the system is a huge advantage over Savage and Fitzpatrick, plus has a better arm than both...
I can't believe this late, right before the season starts, we trade for a crappy 3rd string QB when we already have three of them on our team already.
I am gonna ***** up a storm about this horseshit in here.
