Ryan Mallett has been traded to the #Texans, source says
Paul Perillo ‏@pfwpaul
And the Mallett draft choice is for 2016

Pick for Mallett looks like a conditional choice that will be a 7th unless he plays 40% of the snaps for Houston, which would make it a 6th

YES! I have to say this at least gets me excited. I've thought we were a QB short of being a good team. This is at least something!

Just wondering why this didn't get done sooner? I'm happy that it happened because thes. QBs weren't taking the Texans anywhere.

Got JJ?
According to the net, in his career he's completed one pass to the Patriots and one pass to the enemy. I don't know anything about him, but how much "damage" could there be in this trade?

I have a couple sources, former players and current player who I know from social settings and as customers in my business. One I just talked to said fans may not be very happy with the trade and what we gave up. He wouldn't give too much info but he's very well connected. I'm trying to get more info from him right now.

That very clever Belicheck. But he'd likely be a Cowboy if he wasn't traded to the Texans. He knew he wouldn't have to release Mallett. Well played...

He says he was talking about fans not being happy cause this means Case surely gone now.

A sixth round pick.

I can live with that.

It's not like you can get a Tom Brady or anything in the sixth round.......

I'm just curious why everyone is so high on Mallett, what has he ever done ? Personally never understood the hype.
Honestly, he's done nothing. Really the only thing about this that has me excited is that I know Fitz & Keenum are crap. Hopefully Mallett is at least improvement.

.. and then?
Wikipedia already updated. Johnny Mac may just want to give up

John McClain said:
I told you last week Texans wouldn't be signing Matt Cassel. And they won't be trading for Ryan Mallett, either.

Didn't Belechick get Mallet in the 3rd? To get a 6th in return, he's losing his touch.

A summer’s worth of speculation finally became fact on Sunday. The Houston Texans traded for New England Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett, according to Ian Rappaport. In return the Texans will send a 6th round pick to New England, according to ESPN’s Tania Ganguli.

Pats wanted too much. With Mallett's so-so preseason and Garoppolo out performing him for the back up role, the price tag came down.

just my theory...

You know things are bad when we have 3 back up QBs on the roster, and everyone gets so excited we trade for another back up QB. :kitten:

Because his upside in O'Brien's system is a lot higher than any of the 3 QBs on the roster at this moment. He is young, big, has a big arm, no more limp noodle under throwing WR, and he can move around a little.

for a 6th round pick, it is a low risk-high reward move. He doesn't work out, let him go and move on. He does, you might have a franchise QB that you got for a 6th round pick...

should be fun to watch...

He knows the Belichick/O'Brien offense and is better than Keenum. He's as good as and probably better at executing it than Fitz. It's a no lose deal for us.

If it's a sixth then I'm cool with that. I hope he pans out but if he's better than Fitzpatrick that's even better. I know that not setting the bar high but we all kkow Fitzpatrick is awful so let's see if mallet can turn out to be a good QB.

i see the "Upside" everyone has "Upside". My point is now we have 4 back up QBs. All i want is a "OK" starter !

How many back up QBs does it take to make 1 starter. I guess we're gonna find out....
