People keep saying that the McNairs will stop Caserio from doing what he needs to do to bring a championship to Houston. So far he's allowed Caserio a free hand in bringing the players he wants to bring in. It's never been a money thing. We have to spend 89% or so of the cap, so it's not like he can save any money by being cheap, and he certainly hasn't shown a propensity to do so.So if you're saying Caserio/Lovie will never bring a championship to Kirby odds are that you will be correct. The odds of them being able to overcome the McNair's incompetence is slim.
Lovie must be loosening the leash
All I will tell you is the McNair's have a history and when the time comes I hope you're right.People keep saying that the McNairs will stop Caserio from doing what he needs to do to bring a championship to Houston. I really don't see operationally how McNair can/is hampering this team. From what I see he's allowed Caserio to do his thing and McNair seems to stay out of the way. If Caserio has the skill and know-how to do it, it'll happen.
I think it all has to do with the owner putting his trust in his HC and GM and stepping out of the way.All I will tell you is the McNair's have a history and when the time comes I hope you're right.
Ask yourself if the Texans are run like the Rams? That's a team that spent the money to give themselves their best chance to win a championship.
I won't even get into the Not Texans Worthy constraints the McNair's put on all of their GM's. It's way too early on Saturday morning for that stuff.
Kubiak is the one who made the recommendation to Bob McNair to hire Rick Smith because they worked well together in Denver. Truth be known Smith was a more qualified candidate to be GM than either Caserio or O'Brien. In Houston Smith was GM in name only, but in reality, he was an assistant to Kubiak and Bob McNair.I think it all has to do with the owner putting his trust in his HC and GM and stepping out of the way.
Kubiak, that was his 1st HCing gig. He had to cut his teeth here. Maybe if we had given him another 2 or 3 years he would have come into his own here instead of Denver. I don't think RS did much to help him, didn't seem like there was cohesion between the two.
OB came in with a bunch of hype, but that turned out to be a disaster, he canned the GM, then OB as the HC/GM with no oversight. I don't think anyone really new that he was out of control until the Hopkins fiasco, by then the damage was done, and with Cal being a new owner I think he may have been over his head at that moment. He has to learn as well and it looks like what he's learning is to stay out of the way and let Caserio run the show. The OB deal didn't go well or end well and we're digging out now from that mess.
I think now McNair has hired a strong GM albeit still his 1st gig as well, but NC is headstrong and knows what he wants and he came up in a strong successful system He's made a few mistakes but he'll be a quick study and learn. I have a good feeling about Lovie, and if McNair can keep out of it, and I see no reason why he won't, I think this combo can accomplish something here if they can continue to work together and implement their plan.
The only red flag I see with Cal is why the hell does he need to keep Easterby around? I can't wrap myself around that one. Maybe he thought he needed him here to get Caserio, who knows?
But anyway, I'm a glass half full kinda guy...I like what I'm seeing so far, so keeping my fingers crossed!
This is one untruth that I can no longer let go. My information is from too many first hand inside sources to ignore.Truth be known Smith was a more qualified candidate to be GM than either Caserio or O'Brien.
That is not why he chose Watson and KC jumped over the Texans to get Mahomas. This is one untruth that I can no longer let go. My information is from too many first hand inside sources to ignore.
Caserio came to the Texans with 20 years experience helping run the best franchise in football and with 6 Super Bowl rings.
Slick Rick showed up with nothing but his phallus (I'm trying to avoid being crude) in his hand, which is the only thing he used in Houston while he chased the girls on the business side around his desk drawing sexual impropriety lawsuits. While his beautiful sweet wife was in Arizona being treated for metastatic breast cancer, that low life was cheating on her back in Houston.
No wonder, he chose Depredator Watson over Pat Mahomes, who O’Brien wanted and who wanted to stay in Texas. A truly brilliant parting gift from the Slickster.
That is not why he chose Watson and KC jumped over the Texans to get Mahomas.
That is pretty low to drag that man’s personal business on this forum. I never heard from anyone ever talking about that man dirty closet. Rick got this job because of Kubiak.
Another thing, he without sin cast the first stone.
Even if that is true why are you now throwing his business in the street like that. Sounds pretty darn personal. Do you feel this way to those who treat other people like caged animals?
5 years? Since when in the nfl especially with all those extra draft picks and the gm on coach #2? You said 2023 they should be a playoff team and 2024 a true contender. 5 years in the nfl gets you fired. How long did it take the Rams or even the Bengals? What about the Chargers? It doesn't take 5 years not matter the circumstances.Look at the lawsuits that were brought against the Texans FO as a guide to what was really going on in the Texans org during the RS yrs. Is it any wonder that RS wasn't good at his job? He was very preoccupied.
I find it very interesting that RS/Derrick presented themselves as good Christian family men, when obviously that was nothing more than another lie
With the trading of Derrick the stench of the RS yrs have been finally washed away. Unfortunately rebuilding from the mess RS left and BOB made worse, it's going to take at least 5 years to rebuild from the ashes starting last year.
Maybe a playoff team by 2023. But it's going to take another 3 yrs to become true contenders and that's if Caserio/Lovie get things right.5 years? See, you're making excuses already. This is the nfl where its a year to year league. You posted before, even with the Watson situation and a trade with draft picks coming, a playoff team by 2023 and afc championship game, true contender the next year. Now you're talking 5 years? C'mon bro, thats not how the nfl works. The Bengals were terrible 3 yrs ago. The Browns won 1 game in 2 years a few years back. It doesn't take 5 years in the nfl if you know how to draft and develop players.Maybe a playoff team by 2023. But it's going to take another 3 yrs to become true contenders and that's if Caserio/Lovie get things right.
RS and BOB really screwed this franchise for the foreseeable future.
I'm not making excuses, history says it takes 5 years to build a SB contending team. How many years were the Bengals/Browns really bad before they turned around. If the Texans do what the Bengals did and spend in fa this could move the timeline up by a yr or so.See, you're making excuses already. This is the nfl where its a year to year league. The lawsuit that was brought against the front office was dealing with racism. Smith was not even here then. And nobody in that front office knew Watson got down like that:Look at the lawsuits that were brought against the Texans FO as a guide to what was really going on in the Texans org during the RS yrs. Don't forget those teams weren't rebuilding - they already had chemistry with most of their players and good foundation players.5 years? We have seen NC negotiate a draft skillfully, now we wait for the next FA period where he will have a nice fat bank account to work with.I'm not making excuses, history says it takes 5 years to build a SB contending team. How many years were the Bengals/Browns really bad before they turned around. If the Texans do what the Bengals did and spend in fa this could move the timeline up by a yr or so.
The lawsuit that was brought against the front office was dealing with racism. Smith was not even here then. And nobody in that front office knew Watson got down like that:
Those hate crime individuals claims to being Christians and uses the Bible for there wrong doings.
We can’t put a specific time on when the Texans will recover from Bill O’Brien’s mess. It could take a couple years or 10 years.
That was not against Rick Smith. There was a racism lawsuit brought against them.
There were also sexual harassment lawsuits brought.
It was his FO and he set the tone for the FO. Rumor has it he was doing alot of the same crap. That was not against Rick Smith.
I don't disagree with anything you say here. In fact I am convinced that Smith arrived in Houston and did endear himself to the McNairs. Smith became the Godfather to Cal's children. Smith did become an et tu Brute and put a knife in Kubiak's back. I need no further information than Ian Rappoport's report that the Texans front office was not happy with Kubiak, the rotation of the DL, and that coaches had too much say in the drafting of players (Texans have returned to what ills them). Smith was Kubiak's assassin with the McNair's blessing. This is one untruth that I can no longer let go. My information is from too many first hand inside sources to ignore.

No he did not. Y’all are so quick to place blame on people you don’t like.It was his FO and he set the tone for the FO. Rumor has it he was doing alot of the same crap.
It's the reason he can't sniff another GM job, while other minorities like Mayhew have gotten 2nd chances.
Wow. Where do you get this stuff from? With such a reputation around the office, the McNairs kept him around? This is one untruth that I can no longer let go. My information is from too many first hand inside sources to ignore.

Godfather to Cal’s kid.Wow. Where do you get this stuff from? With such a reputation around the office, the McNairs kept him around?

I am confused a bit why Smith's wife was in Arizona for treatment when they lived in Houston and convenient to MD Anderson. Does Arizona have a better facility that specializes in women's breast cancer?
My comments said when they were candidates. A time before they were Texans. Smith was an Assistant GM with the Broncos. Caserio was Director of Player Personnel. By all accounts, Smith was probably more familiar with the responsibilities of a GM. It is no secret that Belichick's assistants have an extremely high rate of failure and that Belichick is the ultimate micro-manager. Under Belichick, Caserio like all other Belichick assistants have a very specific written job description and list of responsibilities. Most if not all do not relate to being a GM but more specifically to being a facilitator. Someone who is very good at following directions and being able to carry out their assigned duties, orders and responsibilities.
Caserio looked much more comfortable and did a much better job as Lovie's facilitator in 2022 than he did as the Texans GM in 2021.
No he did not. Y’all are so quick to place blame on people you don’t like.
Dead wrong on so many levels. The blame was well placed and has been verified by people in the know. Like I said follow the lawsuits, even though RS was named in one, he was the head of the org when this stuff was going on. No minds are going to be changed here. But trust me when I tell you there was a reason the me too'ers filed sexual harassment charges.
Dead wrong on so many levels.
Like I was saying. With a reputation like that, he became Godfather to Cal's kid?Godfather to Cal’s kid.
Dude you’re acting like Rick sexually assaulted someone. Are you saying that RS wasn't leading the Texans FO?
Or are you saying those sexual harassment charges were bogus?
Like I was saying. With a reputation like that, he became Godfather to Cal's kid?

If someone working for sexually assaulted another employee. How in the bleep is that your fault?
& outlasted Kubiak (the last boy scout)Like I was saying. With a reputation like that, he became Godfather to Cal's kid?
We all know why Kubiak got the boot. Bob told him not to put Matt back out there . Kubiak said F that and still trotted him back out there.& outlasted Kubiak (the last boy scout)
I just assumed it was the late collapse of the Texans 2012 season followed by Kube’s 2-11 start in 2013. didnt Kubiak bench Schaub after those strings of “Schaub’s” In 2013 earlier? I’m probably not remembering this right but if the owner told him to bench Him didn’t he do it?We all know why Kubiak got the boot. Bob told him not to put Matt back out there . Kubiak said F that and still trotted him back out there.
SighWe all know why Kubiak got the boot. Bob told him not to put Matt back out there . Kubiak said F that and still trotted him back out there.
Yep,Sigh
Kubiak was on a downhill track by that time. If you believe the sources, Rick Smith's influence was already eclipsing Kubiak by that time. Hence not drafting a QB & extending Schaub which led to the Schaub/Keenum, heart attack, booting of Kubiak.
Earlier you saidThe fact that Kubiak got the boot and RS stayed spoke volumes.
I'm acting like he sexually harassed women that were his subordinates.
It's a culture, one that RS not only fostered, but participated in. Exactly like CnD stated in his post.
Rick was not no snake. Bill O’Brien was the snake.Sigh

& instead of making a clean break like they should have, had they known Smith was a snake, they extend Smith & promote him to EVP of Football Operations
Earlier you said
So you're saying the McNairs were in on it? That's the "volumes" being spoken?
They're both snakes.Rick was not no snake. Bill O’Brien was the snake.
Oh no mistake has been made. Lovie made it perfectly clear to Cal that he had to have the final say on the hiring of all coaches and players (no silly Culley or Gannon games here) before he would agree to accept the HC job. I don't think there is any doubt that Lovie did in fact hire all his coaches and that Lovie and his coaches were responsible for making all of the 2022 draft picks. If there is any doubt then you should check to see if your headphones are working. They were trying a holistic method of treatment in Arizona.
Yet Caserio appears to have found his QB of the future and a few more guys that appear to be capable starters. Nothing has changed. Caserio is using Pep/McDaniels/ Warhop on the offensive side of the ball to help supplement the scouts evals. He's fully relying on Lovie on the defense since that's Lovie's expertise. I know posters aren't used toa GM doing his job the proper way, but the 1st two drafts have been fruitful. BTW, make no mistake, Caserio is making the final calls on personnel fortunately he and Lovie are on the same page. It's been a while since the GM/HC are on the same page down on Kirby. Good times are ahead.
