Hopkins & Fuller...Under Smith: Watson, Watt, Brown and Foster.
Why are they the only team not to interview Bienemy? Who advised him on that?I'm not clear on why so many think the search committee was smoke and mirrors, or a smokescreen.
Cal was sold on Caserio as GM a year ago. Cal hires Korn Ferry to provide him a list of names and attempt to convince him he can do better than Caserio. After several interviews.....Caserio remained Cal's favorite, and was hired.
Seems pretty straightforward to me.

If that's the case, so be it. But that means it was straight up a Cal's mind is made up, or Cal listening to the whispering coming from the East-erby, and I personally have zero confidence of him making his own football decisions, or those from the advice he gets from the Pastor.I'm not clear on why so many think the search committee was smoke and mirrors, or a smokescreen.

I'm not a fan of the cryptic message thing. Be a man and say what you mean. This just reeks of attention seeking. Social media is full of this stuff. Blech.
Whatever he's referring to, the cloudiness is a bad look for a 'leader of men'. It's a little disappointing, but I'm just a lowly fan so whatever.
Ok I’m starting to step back from the ledge regarding caserio. Reading that Belichick didn’t want to lose him says a lot. And BB is a damn good HC. But for the love of god please don’t hire josh McDaniels. I could stomach keeping Osteensterby but no more patriot head coaches.Reminds me of those various "Change my mind" videos on Youtube. Never see anyone actually change their mind but that doesn't mean they don't listen and consider other view points.
I think Caserio can calm Watson down. Caserio was a high school quarterback (I know, high school). He was a WR coach for the Pats. Even when he was promoted to Director of Pro Personnel he would run WR drills, serving as a 3rd or 4th arm for the Pats during practices, and sitting in the press box assisting Belichick and McDaniels during games. The guy knows football and he's relatable to players. I sincerely believe he and Watson will get along just fine. I joke around about his hiring but in reality I have no concerns about his ability to negotiate contracts or pull off trades that are to the advantage of the Texans.Hiring Bieniemy would go a long way to breaking that "Patriots South" thing they got going. Saleh or Eberflous would as well. But Bieniemy would also settle Watson
Just curious, what exactly has Easterby actually done that you know not somebody hinting at or accusing him of? Hope you are never a defendant in court and innocent.Ok I’m starting to step back from the ledge regarding caserio. Reading that Belichick didn’t want to lose him says a lot. Did NC have a presser yet?
This some version of what I expect the Texans to eventually say when asked. If already have a guy before interviewing, are you truly being open to finding someone better or frankly being fair to the people being interviewed?
Is this a legitimate interview process then?
Based on his negative interview history and the teams who have interviewed and passed it's doubtful he's #1. Also I find nothing about Saleh or Brady that screams I'm a head coach.Do you think he's the #1 candidate out there? That it's his choice where he wants to go?
I'm thinking the main reason he hasn't gotten a HC gig yet is because nobody wants to wait until the middle of February to hire their coach. Not when Saleh & Brady can be had now... Smith or Williams next week.
If the list of candidates they interviewed were a bunch of lackeys and not really serious candidates then I would agree. That wasn’t the case though. Every candidate they interviewed were legitimate ones, it was a legitimate search and the guy hired was a legitimate, qualified candidate...maybe the most qualified candidate that was made available.
I just don’t understand how folks can actually entertain and fathom that the search was a sham b/c their favorite candidate wasn’t interviewed.
It's kind of like having a house inspected before you buy. In the case of a head coach you want a full background check, personal, credit, criminal and interviews. The $500K seems a bit exorbitant.I agree. Throw in that the KF search firm was paid IIRC a cool $500K I can't see Cal doing that unless it was a legit search.

Welcome to Houston Nick. I guess I am in the minority, because I am absolutely stoked with this hire.
Now I am keeping my fingers crossed that Nick looks away from Daboll and brings in Joe Brady!
He has the smarts for this job and I feel lile he will not attempt to create a New..New England and will opt to venture down a new path.
For one, he was the Patriots’ de facto general manager and as such the right-hand man of head coach/general manager Bill Belichick. He was responsible for setting up free agency signings and trades, and although Belichick had final say on decisions played therefore an integral role in building the roster year-in and year-out.
I figure those interviews were good backup candidates in case the Caserio deal did not work out (if they even had any kind of pre-arranged agreement, of course).
Heck, it's still not 'official', so Caserio could pull a McDaniels and those interviews will have been worth it. JMO, of course.
Nick Caserio was employed by the Patriots for 20 years, working in the personnel department and coaching staff. He's been the top guy in the personnel department for the past 13 years. All the while the Patriots have won 6 Super Bowls, 9 AFC Championships, 17 Division titles, and compiled a 249-71 regular season record. Caserio has earned the opportunity of becoming a NFL GM. I'm shocked it took this long to receive this opportunity. If the list of candidates they interviewed were a bunch of lackeys and not really serious candidates then I would agree. If McDaniels is coming we will have to pay a kings ransom for him. He dumped Miami and he was set up with a good deal. And Kraft no question has given him the NE job very soon. That's why he dumped Miami. Kraft had to have given him a great payday and a set time table for when he was going to take over.

Still, it's worth examining how Caserio became the Texans GM. Two years ago, Bill Gaine is fired as GM of the Texans. Only a few months after Jack Easterby was hired into the organization. Shortly after Gaine's dismissal, Easterby is accused of recruiting Caserio to become the next Texan GM while Nick is still under contract with the Patriots.
Fast forward to 2020, Bill O'Brien is out as HC & GM, the Texans have fallen for playoff team to laughing stock, and there are question regarding Easterby's rise to power, his influence and personnel moves, and his future with a new regime. A exhaustive search for a new GM, with many outstanding candidates, ends with the hiring of...Easterby's guy.
If Caserio builds a perennial winner in Houston, who will care how he landed here? But on the surface, this GM search looks like a fraud run bvy Easterby to keep his job. That's how I see it.
There is no one more qualified than Caserio that was available. I'm concerned there's still a cancer in the organization.Well that certainly underscores all the controversy.
But as you said, he was a very qualified candidate. And in that regard you can’t really fault the Texans for continuing to pursue him.

Indy not Miami
let’s see blatant incompetence for one. Being side by side step by by step with fat Travolta’s idiotic personnel moves. His job is to help the team.

Ok fine. Osteensterby is a typical YES MAN that serves NO purpose. That’s good enough reason to can him.Ok so for the sake of argument what was he suppose to do? OB was the GM/HC and had all the power so how was anybody not named McNair suppose to stop him? You could say talk to Cal but how do we know he didn’t and Cal said it’s Bob’s team so the decision is his?
To be fair it could be the opposite and all the conspiracy theories are correct but the fact is we don’t know. On one hand we have multiple people going on record as saying Easterby is making no decisions but they could be lying and on the other we have writers quoting unnamed sources that for all we know could just be the guys down at the local sports bar.
Here’s what I don’t understand, for years people on these forums have cried out for someone to dislodge OB from his seat of power. Then word gets out that Easterby did it and instead of being happy he becomes the new public enemy number one. Shouldn’t we be building statues to him and naming our first born children after him? Yeah Hopkins got traded and we had a tank season before it happened but news flash it usually does take things getting really bad before a HC and GM are fired particularly on the Texans.
If Hopkins hadn’t gotten traded and we didn’t start 0-4 do you really think OB would have been fired?
I've never been impressed with their draft selections. But always admired the way they worked the draft. Making moves to get their guy while stockpiling future picks. And a 3rd round pick is a very good pick for anyone who has seen how the NE draft picks work out. More ofte
The Caserio hire in a vacuum isn't bad. He is a solid choice with a great background. I do think we need a strong college scouting director to pair with him, but managing the cap and player contracts and getting good value with trades is his specialty.
The rub comes with the perception of Easterby and the "control" he seems to have within this organization. I truly think if he was let go then the Caserio hire would be more welcoming.
6 years?!
Wasn't he part of 5 of their 6?3 SB winning teams and he was part of building them. While learning from the master... Hoodie
